There’s something wrong with my Bishop’s cap cactus and I...

I just noticed today that there’s a dark spot on my Bishop’s cap cactus. It’s extremely squishy and it looks like there’s a ring of brown around the darker, squishy spot. It’s pretty big too, it goes about halfway around my cactus and at one point reaches about halfway up his side. What can I do? What have I been doing wrong? Can someone please help?

If I had to guess that's from over watering. That's what my FILs cactus liked like when it got over watered...

Is the brown area soft? If so the I think it’s rotting due to overwatering. Anyone else have ideas?

That looks like rot due to over watering. You can try cutting off the non rotted top and allowing it to dry and then root.
