Juniper Bonsai Needles stiff and brown

So I truly believe this was overwatering followed instructions not realizing it was for daily outside which mine is inside. I removed all brown needles today. Will it regrow now that I’ve got the water back to normal confirmed using hygrometer etc. this was the original pic when I got it lost a lot since then. Hoping this fullness will return. Notes in info on plant. @Kiersten
4ft to light, direct
4” pot with drainage
Last watered 3 years ago
Yes their definitely over water! They should com back though! It doesn't look to bad!
Might I just say, THAT is a magnificent bonsai you have! How old are they?
@greenleafeater thank you over watered a bit this the issue 4 years old
Hey Joe! Does this pot have a drainage hole? How often were you watering, and for how long?
@Kiersten yes it’s got a large one in the bottom drains extremely well daily soaks.
@Kiersten and I would let it sit until it stopped dripping even Joe that the hygrometer says I can water it will flow through so drainage is excellent
@Kiersten when I got it pic
How often were you giving this plant water?
@Kiersten daily soaks
Ah, that makes sense! Plant roots need oxygen to breathe and they get it from small channels in the soil that fill with air between waterings. Without drainage, those channels stay filled with water and prevent oxygen from reaching the roots, which causes them to suffocate.

Fewer roots = less water absorbed = the same symptoms as a thirsty plant, such as crispy leaves.

Unfortunately I don’t think there’s anything we can do for this guy at this point apart from a root rehab, which can be super stressful for a plant.

If you’re up for it and want to give it a try I can send over instructions!
@Kiersten I stopped doing that so if you think it’s gone rather start fresh if you think it won’t come back
@Joedestefano If it’s been getting that much water for that long it will definitely need an intervention to have a shot at recovering.
@Kiersten thank you I think it may be time to call it a day
@Kiersten after further checking I cut a bit into the actual trunk it’s still very much alive. I had lived and let it really dry out well so it’s under a grow light very controlled and slowly at the bottom needles are green and soft. I’ve got Bonsai soil so I’ll do the transplant. If you could send over instruction it would be greatly appreciated thanks Joe
You got it! To recover this guy, you’ll want to remove the plant from the pot and check out the roots. Remove any that seem mushy, brown, or pull away with just a gentle tug. Then rinse the roots with hydrogen peroxide to kill any remaining fungus. Next, repot in fresh soil into a pot with a good drainage hole.

Place it in a bright, south-facing window after a week or two so it can soak up all the sunlight it needs to recover. After a week or so, give it a good soak and hopefully it will recover!!
