Does Cloud Boy need a bigger pot?
My #philodendrongoldenmelinonii is pushing out tons of growth but the #NewGrowth seems to be smaller than the older leaves. Some of his roots are barely poking out of the drainage holes, but unsure if I should repot or not (considering itβs getting cold here in #CentralTexasGang). πͺ΄
Should I give him a bigger pot? Would that affect his growth? Also, what causes these scars on the leaves?
Heβs all by himself on a shelf and doesnβt get brushed or moved. Could these be because of lack of humidity and water? π§πΏ
TIA!! π

I don't think it needs a repot honestly. Roots naturally head towards the holes of the pot as that's where the water drains to. The best way to tell though is to either gently squeeze the nursery pot and feel how 'solid' the pot is...if it feels super solid and not like it is full of dirt, it is likely root bound. The other way is to gently take the plant out of the pot and check the roots that way.
This is mine and it hasn't needed a pot upgrade at all since I got it at the start of the year. I find most philodendrons don't need pot upgrades that frequently if you size them correctly when potting. I have over 25 types and often put them into smaller pots that they can stay in for a year due to many stores selling plants by pot size, rather than true plant size (what the actual foliage and overall rootball is)
Also thanks for using my hashtag π€£ I love seeing people using it!

I donβt know the answer for certain, but Nala has been pushing out smaller leaves too. I guess I had assumed it was just a protest about getting less light now that itβs winter, but if thereβs something else causing it, Iβll be sure to make changes!
Cloud Boy is still looking amazing, though, smaller leaves and all! πππ

@ESylvanus Thank you for the answer nonetheless! ππ Iβve been thinking about yours, @Nataliesplants & @ManyLime whenever I walk past mine π₯Ή
I also assumed it was lighting but heβs under a grow light for 6-8 hours. Maybe my grow lights arenβt good enough for him π«£β¦or maybe too much light?? π
I agree heβs absolutely beautiful still, small leaves and all, but he has NOT stopped growing since I got him π© when do they go dormant ?? π€£π€£
Heβs in the process of unfurling 5 leaves right now lol.

@foliagegirl oh wow! Those leaves are HUGE! πΏβ¨ and I love #philodendronderrieres π©
Do you have a clue what could be causing the small leaves? I canβt take a picture atm but most of the new growth seems to be half of the size of the older leaves π€
I donβt think itβs rootbound. Do you offer yours humidity?

@dreamlettuce based on your pics, no. I say when it's dry pull it out of the pot and make sure it's not a mess or root bound. Otherwise he seems VERY happy and I would leaf him be.
I agree with @foliagegirl . Keep it in its pot until you see significant roots coming out. Philos are ok being a little snug
@foliagegirl @ManyLime @AwesomePlants Thank you beautiful ladies πππ
