First Time Fern Mom

Hello! I recently received my first ever fern and I have heard they are hard to care for! I am so nervous to kill it. I put it in a grow pot near a humidifier. It’s on my winter table under a grow light, as I get nervous with my plants by the windows in the winter here in the midwest. Any tips and tricks?? :) #LeatherLeafFern #fern #FernFriends #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #plantmom #advice #TipsandTricks

The link may help you. My best piece of advice is research, research, research! This GORGEOUS fern has very specific requirements to stay happy. NO direct sun, NEVER drying out, and NO salt or minerals in the water. You’ll do fine! Just arm yourself with the facts and ENJOY!!!
Ferns can be finnicky, it sounds like you're doing everything right. They like moist but definitely not wet soil.
I have my plants by windows but also have grow lights on the plants, they made it through last winter, it gets pretty brutal here sometimes so I'm hoping my plants will be ok this winter.
@TruthfulApricot Mary I would give your advice 5 thumbs up if I could. Great job!😊
@CoolNoblefir You’re so sweet to say so. I appreciate it very much. Thank you!!! ❀️❀️❀️
@iAmErica I also agree with @TruthfulApricot advice. Also, being by a humidifier is a great idea since they love πŸ’• humidity.

How to grow leather leaf fern in a pot

Step 1

Choose a spot indoors that is well lit but away from direct sunlight.

Step 2

Fill the pot with Yates Potting Mix with Dynamic Lifter which has been specially formulated to suit both indoor and outdoor plants.

Step 3

Remove the plant from the container, gently tease the roots and cut away any circled or tangled roots.

Step 4

Position in hole and backfill with potting mix, gently firming down. Water in well keeping the water away from the leaves.

Step 5

Water the plant regularly to keep the potting mix moist.

Step 6

Feed every 2 weeks with a Liquid Plant Food to promote strong root development and healthy foliage growth.

Growing tips

These plants grow best positioned in a cool, draught free brightly lit position indoors.
