Hi friends!
I have been sprouting garlic in water for the past few weeks. The stalks are doing really well and the original cloves have started forming roots. So my question for you all is: should I leave my garlic in water or move it to some dirt?
Thanks!

@sarahsalith I will happily add a picture when I get home! Thatβs a good rule to know. The roots are not quite at 2 inches yet so I will definitely wait before doing anything with it
@oldplantlady Ideally, I would like to keep it alive/growing as long as I can so that I can use the stalks in cooking
@GoldRye oh YEH! Go ahead and plant it! (:
@sarahsalith Okay, cool! Is that something you have done before as well? If so, any tips on keeping it growing?
@GoldRye go find a ginger that is plump and has little nodules on it. Place it on some soil in a pot- you don't even have to cover it! For me, I waited about three weeks and POOF! Lots and lots of green leaves! It was fun and your garlic made me think of it
If it's planted and cared for, the roots expand and you can harvest them.

I believe garlic is usually planted directly in the ground without sprouting it first, the the late fall, here in Pennsylvania. And then harvested around August or September. You can also plant in the spring but harvest time might be later in the season. My dad grows a lot of garlic and when itβs time to pick the scapes he makes hummus, pesto, and aoli from the scapes. So to answer your question I would probably move it outside to dirt if possible.
