What kind of fertilizer do I use?
Hi Susanne! Iβve never grown garlic so I looked it up for you . Hereβs what it says- β Garlic needs a high-nitrogen fertilizer in early spring for leaf growth, and a switch to phosphorus and potassium later for bulb growth. Good options include blood meal, fish emulsion, or balanced organic blends like Espoma Garden Tone. Early Spring (Vegetative Phase) Nutrient: High nitrogen (N)Options: Blood meal, fish emulsion, or pelleted chicken manure Why: Fuels green leaf growth. More leaves mean larger eventual bulbs. Timing: Apply as soon as green shoots emerge in early spring, repeating every 3 to 4 weeks until mid-spring. Late Spring (Bulbing Phase) Nutrient; Lower nitrogen, higher phosphorus (P) and potassium (K)Options: Bone meal or bulb-specific organic fertilizers. Why-Shifts energy from leaves to swelling the garlic bulbs underground. Timing: Stop high-nitrogen feeding by mid-spring (around May) and apply a potassium/phosphorus boost. Stop all fertilizing 4 to 6 weeks before harvest
