holes in cactus?

idk what’s going on here, i just got this dude and there’s a hole near his base :( i thought nothing of it and potted him up-i can’t take a pic bc i know this species is finicky and i don’t wanna dig him out and stress him. it’s brown, he’s still firm tho and not mushy/rotted, roots are healthy as well. like literally nothing is wrong except the hole. i’m really sorry that i couldn’t provide a pic!! #CactusClique

@strawberrymoon I'm so glad you posted a picture, I was fearing the worst! I think it's just old; as long as it doesn't get wet, i believe it will be fine. I have a few holes on cacti near the bottom and they don't get any worse.

I like the idea of a magical doorway. πŸ˜‰
Your plant is so cute. Holes can come from over watering or high humidity.
@Pegster thank you so much!! yes hes baby <3 do you think it’s rot? or can i just leave him be
Could be rot. Make sure soil dries out before watering again.
Doesn’t leca hold moisture? Try potting it in cactus soil or sand.
@Pegster i just repotted him today after getting him from the store- the soil was pretty compact and wet, he’s in completely dry and gritty stuff now. i’ll try and take a pic soon!
@Jilliebeanstalk it’s not leca, that’s akadama :)
@strawberrymoon oh gotcha. Never heard of it. Love this app since I’m always learning
@Jilliebeanstalk its not common overseas, it’s a japanese volcanic material- kind of like pumice!! it’s mainly used for bonsai but i like to use it for sucs.
these are the clearest pics i could take bc he’s small. it’s dry as far as i can see
Oh no. Idk what that is. Maybe a doorway? πŸ˜€ He’s a cutie.
@Hypsie i’m not super super concerned about it since it’s dry + the surrounding area is calloused- maybe his little door leads to a pumpkin field, my mom said he looks like a mini pumpkin !!
@strawberrymoon A magical fairy pumpkin land! πŸ§šβ€β™€οΈπŸŽƒ
I just lost my sand dollar. It was the meatball in my meatball and spaghetti. No one else in the pot died. I must’ve over watered it but I’m still confused a bit on what really happened. I never noticed holes, I did notice it appears to be growing because the creases where brute and new growth looking. But that was not the case.
@sarahsalith that’s such a relief, tysm!! he seems happy for now, hopefully i can keep him looking adorable and healthy.
@CalitoCarolina oh no :( online stuff says that this type of astrophytum are very very sensitive to overwatering, so i think that was what happened. i’m probably not gonna water mine until april
@strawberrymoon yes I too believe that’s what happened. If I could just remember how much I actually wanted the pot. Just when you think your being careful. πŸ€”
