to be able to give you an accurate diagnosis i’d need to be able to see a photo of it if possible please! but from the information I do know it’s summer in Texas right now so it should definitely be putting on active summer growth. Suddenly dying usually points to a root or hydration crisis. to narrow it down would you mind telling me if
1. is it planted in a pot or in the ground?
2. how often and deeply are you watering it?
3. when was it planted?
