Finding light for String of Pickles in your home
a window
String of Pickles may have difficulty thriving, and will drop leaves 🍃, without ample sunlight.
Place it less than 3 feet from a south-facing window to maximize the potential for growth.
Select your region to see how the current weather in your area affects the placement of String of Pickles in your home 🏡.
How to fertilize String of Pickles
Most potting soils come with ample nutrients which plants use to produce new growth.
By the time your plant has depleted the nutrients in its soil it’s likely grown enough to need a larger pot anyway.
To replenish this plant's nutrients, repot your String of Pickles after it doubles in size or once a year—whichever comes first.

Where to hang our new string of pickles? We recently acquired a string of pickles plant and are dying to hang it over our kitchen window, but I keep seeing conflicting information about how sensitive these guys are to drafts. Our windows are well sealed, but the window in question is about 7 feet from a vent for our HVAC, so it does get a bit of the hot or cold air depending on the season. Will that mess with Mr Pickles badly? #succulentlove #succulentsquad #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantaddict

I just picked this up... She was labeled as string of beans? But Greg says String of Bananas, and she has purple vines. Does it even matter? She pretty 😍

One year with my plants Day 2 String of Rubies/Pickles Wow this is such an awesome little plant! Of all the ‘strings’ this may be my favourite 😍 I got this plant as a few cuttings from a friend on 10th Dec. Back then the plant was bright green with red stems (pic 1) The only pot I had available was this co ver pot with no drainage, somehow it’s still alive and is a happy little thing. It has been trimmed to make cuttings for friends so it doesn’t look like it’s really grown, but you can see how full the top is now. (Pic 2-4) The rubies turned bright red after I placed them outside on my west facing porch (southern hemisphere) I have some cuttings indoors in a very low light spot (pic 5) and they’re really struggling, they’ve etiolated so much they’re unrecognisable! They live with my string of hearts which is very happy there but my rubies is wrinkling away, so if this is what’s happening to yours maybe try more light. If you prefer to keep them green I would avoid afternoon sun. If you have a bright sunny spot and don’t know what to keep there I definitely recommend these babies. I will probably take more cuttings soon and keep a ‘green’ type indoors with more light. (Or maybe just rescue the dying one I have haha) Very resilient, no pests or problems except when in poor light. 10/10 recommend. #HappyPlants #PlantAddict #BeforeAndAfter #HoyaAddictHome

Anyone know why my Jewel of the Desert is (seemingly) drying out? So, I've had this #delosperma, #jewelofthedesert for a few months, now. It came with, and went into this container, with the #stringofrubies #stringofpickles. They've both been indoors, under the same grow light (about 12 inches away) for a couple months. My jewel, however, has been dropping dried up leaves essentially since a week or two after I got it. It has the same watering schedule as the string, but the string pumps up, thrives, and has even doubled the amount of leaves since I got it; fuzzy white nodules and all. The only thing I've noticed that I can diagnose is that it's leaning toward the light. The healthy leaves look plump and "fuzzy", as healthy leaves usually do. But random ones keep dying off. Any suggestions? I was really excited to see this flower eventually, but I'm not sure I'll be able to get it to thrive. #succulentsquad #newgrowth #succulents #help

Over or under watered? So, I've already killed my first #succulent by way of overwatering/poor soil drainage. So now I'm nervous. XD I have two new babies that the app wants me to water after 14 days of them being repotted into soil with more grit in it. I didn't wet down the soil or anything; They've just been chillin' in their new container (plastic, but with plenty of drainage), about 8 inches or more away from a grow light. Now the #stringofpickles #stringofrubies is starting to look a little shriveled, with the addition of these odd spots. A couple leaves have gone brown on the #jewelofthedesert, as well. Is this a sign that they need water, or a sign for rot? I don't want to kill these babes, too. DX #succulentsquad #succulents #succulentlove #succulenthelp

Picked up this #StringOfBananas at a local nursery this weekend, and only noticed once we were home that it’s perhaps a purple flush?! The leaves are not purple but the stems are. I have not watered it since it was slightly damp, and it hasn’t lost any leaves, so hopefully not a bad sign.

So, I have two new babies! They had a rough shipping experience, but I'm hoping they'll make it, none the less! I've put more drainage in my soil, and also set up a little grow light situation. Not sure if any of these fallen leaves will propagate, but, fingers crossed. I figure I'll try until I'm sure it won't work. Shriveled stems and leaves What causes this? I just noticed it while watering another plant identical to this one. Same amount of water, same vessel, same location, but this one is not happy. ☹️

I left my string of rubies in almost no light as I was moving and she began to turn purple on her leaves (as seen in initial pic)!! Once I moved her back into indirect light she turned green once again and has been thriving! Just keep ur plants happy and near windows and they’ll love you :))

Haven’t had any issues with this plant and it grows super well and fast! Sits in my south facing window with direct sun and gets water every 2-4 days and is pretty tough! Same as it’s relative plants like the pearls and dolphins they’re all in the same window and grow wonderfully. I would definitely recommend!

I love my string of pickles plant, Meg. She is my hanging plant that hangs from the ceiling of my bedroom and she is very cute, and for people like me who have difficulty taking care of plants, don’t worry cause she will live out anything- ok maybe not everything....
