Bulbs can be funny. They will bloom and then die back for a while. When I was younger, I remember my mom digging up the bulbs after the blooms had been spent. When I store my bulbs, I always put them in a dark, dry area (like a laundry room cabinet) and kept them dry until next growing season.
I have an amaryllis bulb this year and I'm planning on attempting to keep it going all year. That might even mean having an empty pot for a few months while it's dormant.
When it comes to ivy, I don't get it any more. It's a #NeverAgain plant for me. Only water the Ivy a little bit when it is dry. If you overwater ivy, it will die. οΏΌ
