About Mini Phalaenopsis Orchid
Phalaenopsis orchids get their name from the Greek 'phalaina' meaning moth, as their flowers are thought to resemble moth or butterfly wings! 🦋 Once their flowers have blossomed, they will eventually die but the plant will live one and continue to produce new flower spikes throughout its life. Orchid flowers evolved to attract pollinators and ther unique shape helps keep insects safe while collecting and dispersing pollen! 🐝

How to fertilize Mini Phalaenopsis Orchid
Most potting soils come with ample nutrients which plants use to produce new growth.
By the time your plant has depleted the nutrients in its soil it’s likely grown enough to need a larger pot anyway.
To replenish this plant's nutrients, repot your Mini Phalaenopsis Orchid after it doubles in size or once a year—whichever comes first.

I had a lucky (or unlucky depending on how you might view it) find today! I was initially drawn to this mini phal’s peloria (a genetic mutation whereby the petals often take the shape of the bloom’s lip) and noticed she had an apical (sometimes called a terminal) spike. This means that the spike has grown from the crown and the plant won’t be able to grow any more leaves so essentially, it will die in the next few years. BUT plants with apical spikes often produce keikis (a genetic clone of the mother plant) as a way of surviving and it is this that made me decide to take a chance on her, even though I’m not the biggest fan of white blooms! I’ve wanted a keiki for so long! The care is the same, so I just have to keep everything crossed that she decides to make a keiki! At the very least, I hope it will be a learning experience for me. @MusicalRedmint have you had experience with apical spikes? #PhalaenopsisOrchid #OrchidLovers #PlantsMakePeopleHappy

Orchid Journey A few weeks ago I posted Orchida's journey, && I wanted to thank everyone who helps me & have advice!! After cutting back her dead stem, she is starting to grow back! I did not repot her (still has the nursery plug & somehow has thrived), && now that she's growing back I don't think I should? I'm not sure! lol my Question is: should I cut her back more? & should I just repot her, cause the grow back doesn't look that strong or solid??? Also, her leaves seem super dry. I just the roots every week or so with distilled water (water pump in pictures). Seems to be a decent watering regiment. As always, any help or advice would be appreciated! Blessings ☀️🍀💖 #OrchidLovers #Orchid #OrchidProblems #NewPlantMom

Dehydrated? So I'm rehabbing this moth orchid in water culture. I plan to keep it in water culture permanently if she adjusts well to it. It has finally started to push a fresh green root out of the bottom of the crown. However, her leaves are very dark green and very sad and droopy. I googled, and supposedly, this is because of not enough water? But...she's in water all the time. I went ahead and googled some more, decided to wrap a zip lock baggie around the crown to help increase moisture near the base without actually sticking her crown in the water. The few roots she does have are the leftover stringy ones from pulling off the velamin. Now, she does still have flowers currently holding on for dear life. Should I go ahead and cut the spike to direct the energy to root growth? Or just let them run their course? The spike is also dark green with a branch coming off the side from a lower bode as well that doesn't have flowers blooming yet. #orchidlovers

Healthy roots? Do these orchid roots look healthy? I trimmed the ones that were paper thin or had turned black. Just wanted a second opinion in case I missed any. I plan to keep her in water, eventually with leca once she grows new healthy roots. I did spray the roots with peroxide after trimming as well.

Questions about fertilizer All my plants, besides 2, use a 1-2-2 organic liquid fertilizer for cactus and succulents. I have a small moth orchid that I'm trying to water culture currently. I have the miracle grow ready to use orchid spray, but idk how I feel about spraying it directly to exposed roots in water. Would the 1-2-2 work on the orchid? Or would that be a waste of my time? Or what have you all had success with?

Orchid Appreciation Orchadia is the first plant I ever got. I'm amazed at her growth & how she's just not stopping. My only concern is the yellowing/browning of the bottom leaves, some have fell off also. What could be the reason for this? Other than that she is thriving!! Blessings ☀️🍀💖 #MiniPhalaenopsisOrchid #OrchidLovers #Orchid #OrchidProblems

Yep. It happened. I bought an orchid. It was MINI and I love mini things, so I had to, bless my little heart. 🥲 🩷 Meet Chims. (Daughter named her.) She may be mini, but she still be mighty. I have no idea what I'm doing, taking care of her, so I am off to do some research and add to my little book of plants. Any tips are appreciated here, as I welcome any advice from orchid owners that know their stuff. ✨ #orchidlovers #orchid #orchidorg #greggang #greggers #happyplants #plantaddict #plantsmakepeoplehappy

Orchid rescue mission My mom bought me this orchid last night, and it was in desperate shape. I cleaned most of the coconut husk crap off the roots and trimmed a couple that were mush. Took some velamin(sp?)off a few others that were looking rough. I now have her sitting in a glass dish with about an inch of water on her roots. She is staked to keep the crown from falling into the water. I know that in order to grow her in water culture, I have to do it slowly. I've already watched a few videos on YouTube about how to do this, but I have a few questions. I know every orchid is different, but about how long does it typically take for one to fully acclimate to water culture? I plan to do the 1 day wet 6 days dry method for now and slowly increase the amount of wet days until she can live in water permanently. Do any of you have experience with this method and could give me some advice? I also already know that throughout this transition period, I will have to continue cleaning the medium from the roots. What else do I need to know? Also, if any of you have experience with miraclegro ready to use orchid fertilizer spray, where am I supposed to spray it on the plant? Thanks for the help #MiniPhalaenopsisOrchid

I should trim off all of these blackish roots right?.. Do I need to trim off all of these dark squishy roots except for the new little green ones sprouting? Will it survive that? 😭 The rest of the plant looks decent, though no flowers yet. I think I’ve had this for a year almost! The leaves aren’t as glossy and sturdy as they used to be though. I’m in the process of changing the potting medium to an orchid bark. #OrchidLovers #PhalaenopsisOrchid #MiniPhalaenopsisOrchid #help
