About String of Bananas
String of bananas evolved their signature shape as an adaptation to store water in dry environments. In place of leaves, cells in the green bananas perform photosynthesis to feed the plant. Translucent crescents act like windows to allow sunlight to reach cells on the inside of the banana and increase their ability to capture the sun! 🪟☀️

String of Bananas may have difficulty thriving, and will drop leaves 🍃, without ample sunlight.
Place it less than 3 feet from a south-facing window to maximize the potential for growth.

How to fertilize String of Bananas
Most potting soils come with ample nutrients which plants use to produce new growth.
By the time your plant has depleted the nutrients in its soil it’s likely grown enough to need a larger pot anyway.
To replenish this plant's nutrients, repot your String of Bananas after it doubles in size or once a year—whichever comes first.

Does anyone know why she’s balding? Context: she is under 12 inches below grow lights for 13 hours. Generally, I have found that it is recommended they get 12-16 hours. I have noticed that a month after having her, she had dark colorations of purple which is stated to be “Purple Flush” an indication of ample light. Water wise she gets watered every 3-4 weeks. However, I have noticed that the top has not been doing well for at least 1-2 months even if I try to keep her in shade 24-48 hours. When I do, the green coloration does come back but the top gets worse before it gets better. I do not know if I need to change the water schedule, move her to a different location or whatever it might be. If anyone has had a similar situation before 🙏

Nana the string of bananas This is a new plant to me, but she was full and thriving upon purchase. Each week more strings are shriveled up and the dirt is so compact. Suggestions to get her thriving again?

My banana plant was crazy thriving then I think I took too long to water or watered from the top and he started to shrivel. He still has a lot of life left for sure! I cleaned him up. Would you all repot him soon? #StringOfBananas
