Not sure if I should water it on the schedule
#Aglaonema hi. Iβm following the app for watering but the water meter is still in the moist area. Should I still water it today? Iβm new to plants and think I may have measured the pot size wrong. Please help! #HappyPlants

@CozyBiglaurel Hi Cheryl! Your plant shouldn't be watered until the top couple of inches of soil are dry. Stick your finger down into the top if it feels wet wait to water until your finger or a chopstick comes out dry with no soil on it. The app is basically a reminder to water. It also learns your plants schedule as you tell it you've watered. If the app says it's time always check your plant first. If it isn't ready hit snooze if you're using the paid version of the app. If not then manually update when you water in the edit your plant section.
@princesspitstop Thank you so much!I recently bought this plant and am so in love with it and want to make sure I donβt screw it up. Iβm also learning about the app too! This was such a big help!
@CozyBiglaurel Good I'm so glad. Your plant is beautiful! Do you know what species of Chinese Evergreen yours is? I have 2 of them. π
@CozyBiglaurel No I donβt. I purchased from Amazon and was truly surprised of how beautiful it was. I plan to do more research on all my plants. I got the plant bug from@my coworkers and have been buying plants ever since but it makes me so happy!!!!βΊοΈ
@CozyBiglaurel I'll see if I can help you figure it out by its leaf pattern. However I still can't tell if mine is a Silver Queen or a Silver King!! Lol
@princesspitstop Thank you. I really appreciate it. I hope you figure it out. I plan to get name tags for all my plants but first I Have to make sure I keep them alive. I have a polka dot plant thatβs on it last leg. π€¦π½ββοΈ
@CozyBiglaurel Ha! That was easy enough! It's a Silver Bay! You have the plant in person. Does it look like the same leaf pattern?
@princesspitstop Yup same pattern!!! Thanks!
@clairsheart Thank you for the feedback!!π
@CozyBiglaurel No problem! If you need help adding it to your Oasis under its name let me know. ππ
I keep mine moist towards the red of my moist meter.ive read a lot about keeping them thirsty but they seem to like moist towards the red. My other plants have a tweaked watering schedule I don't water my monsteras after the watering schedule. I have to go off of judgement etc from the last time I watered them
@CozyBiglaurel Welcome to the Greg community! The pot size should be measured on the diagonal. As far as watering I never rely on the app, this means that a lot of things can affect how fast or slowly the soil dries out. If your plant is in a plastic pot, the soil dries out a lot slower than if it were in a Terracotta pot. Terracotta is porous plastic is not it doesnβt βbreathe β the way the Terracotta pot does! So if the app tells me itβs time to water, I always feel the top of the soil. If it feels dry I take a bamboo skewer and stick it in the soil. And if thereβs soil stuck to the skewer once removed I hold off on watering and snooze the plant. And with time the app learns how frequently each particular plant in your oasis needs to be watered. Hope this helped. Happy Growing!
@CozyBiglaurel Iβm with @RadiantGinseng this plant needs constant moisture. Iβve had mine on the Greg schedule and it does well . When I did let it dry out totally the leaves curled under . Mine is pink but same family . Balanced moisture is the key . You also may want to buy a water meter this will help you and Greg to know your plant . They have huge thick roots that are counting on a stable watering schedule . . When you stick the water meter in to check for levels it should be hovering right above the dry . You can buy a water meter for less than 10 dollars on Amazon . Best of luck
@Ms.Persnickety Wow this helps a lot! Thank you! Everyone is so helpful!
@ILoveMyPlants I do have a water meter so I guess Iβm a little ahead of the game!!! Thank you π
@ILoveMyPlants @CozyBiglaurel my Evergreen is doing great and itβs the only plant that loves its self watering pot. I have repotted every other plant kids in traditional (and see through) pots. When I do water I let it drain to fill the reservoir. I just make sure the top dries. Mine is a Silver Queen
