Is my agave a propagation station? 🀣

I’ve got a #HitchhikingSucculent in my Victoria Agave! πŸ₯Ή Does this make my #Agave a #propogationstation? 🀣🀣🀣

Can you see it? 🫢🏽🌿 #ShowThemIfYouGotThem

Yes! It’s tiny and cute. What is it?
@AC73LoveCats I think it’s a Burro Tail. πŸ˜…
@FitSedum yeah does kinda look like a tiny burro tail. That’s cool. Can repot that one and see how big it gets. That agave looks really cool
I like the geometric shape this agave has. Seems like it adds strength to the plant being that shape. Almost triangular spiky like leaves.
@SirLiquorice thanks! It’s definitely interesting! As for the hitchhiker, I’ll need to see how far it’s gotten and make sure I don’t get sliced by the foliage. I’ve had that experience before and ordered a tool to get between the blades and clean them up. I’ll definitely repot it once I get it out. ☺️
@FitSedum yeah it looks like it’s going to be difficult to remove without removing the agave from the pot also.
@FitSedum I still need to pick some pieces of bark out of the agave you gave me. Those cats are so irritating sometimes. Lol. But at least they didn’t cause any damage to the plant. That’s all I care about. I can clean the dirt off of it. Already removed most but need to get the rest with tweezers.
@FitSedum I’m wondering if I should repot the short leaf aloe now. It’s already probably too big for that pot since it has all those pups.
@SirLiquorice it definitely does. I really don’t want to move that Agave from its pot. My poor hands can’t take it! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
@SirLiquorice Yes, That’s definitely something I need to do with all of my plants. Moving them indoors has shown me how much debris they get outside.
@FitSedum I would maybe try to find to big chunks of styrofoam. See if you can gently squeeze them together to lift it. Or wrapping jeans around it gently and holding both ends together like a handle may work. But agaves have that shape that makes it difficult
@FitSedum I use plastic coat hangers a lot for repotting to move and adjust the plant and kinda raise it. And I set the plant on the coat hangers on top of the pot and fill the dirt and rocks around the plant to fill in underneath it
@SirLiquorice I found this about it online. It grows autumn and Spring then stops during Winter and Summer. So, it looks like you can re pot it now since it’s actively growing.

@SirLiquorice I ordered this for picking out things. I don’t know if you’ve ever considered it.

@SirLiquorice the shape of the leaves is what attracted me to it. Its usually all about the architecture when I see them. If they are fairly geometric, I’ll take them!
@SirLiquorice did you see this about the short-leaf aloe? πŸ₯Ί

β€œAn evergreen succulent perennial plant native to the Western Cape in South Africa. It is endangered in its natural habitat – the aloe species is listed as vulnerable on IUCN’s global red list.”
@FitSedum yeah I’ve noticed almost all cacti and many succulents are on the endangered list mainly due to poachers
@FitSedum seems like it has to be mainly poachers causing extinction risks. Because these seem to grow pups so fast even when small. Seems like they would multiply in the wild fairly quickly. But not if people are digging them up.
@FitSedum that would be a good tool for removing. It might cause some damage to the succulent but if you’re only removing it then who cares. If trying to save it I guess you would just have to be extra gentle with the metal teeth
I see it is cute
@FitSedum the plastic coat hangers work very well for repotting. Especially with larger heavier and spikier plants. Plus using old jeans to wrap around to hold them. I never use gloves I just use old clothes. That mamillaria in the pic was really heavy and awkward to pick up and move. Gary Duke said that was the largest cactus or plant he has ever shipped. I got that one as a housewarming gift for a friend. The copiapoa I kept. That one is super spiky so it had to take my time adjusting and potting that one. The hangers make the work surprisingly easy.
Both those cacti have to be 20-30 years old most likely
Omg that’s so cool! Love it 😍
Wow what a stunning agave!! And a bonus friend 🀣
@SirLiquorice I think it’s wonderful that you have them. I remember what was said about trying to keep them off and us doing our part. 🫢🏽
@SirLiquorice I agree. When I saw it, I recall it being in a small clump. By the time I we met, it was definitely a bit larger. Has it grown THAT much more?
@SirLiquorice yes, I agree it would be damaging to the succulent. I’m using it to clean up debris in my Agave pots. When Ares -one of my Blue Glow Agave - got freeze burn, I used pliers to pull off the leaves that were already coming off. I can’t even access the soil in the pot at this point. πŸ˜…
@Indoorgreens isn’t it?! ☺️ I’m heading out to get a better look and see if it’s ready for it’s own pot. NGL, it’s kinda exciting! ☺️
@SirLiquorice these are excellent tips! Thank you for sharing! This will definitely make it easier!
@SirLiquorice beautiful cacti! 😍
@HoyaAddict I loved it the moment I saw it, too! ☺️
@lemrobs thank you! I love it when tis happens! I got an extra green baby! Yay! 😁
πŸ˜‚ @fitsedum totally see it! Def looks like a burro's - I was a
Gonna guess pachyphytum 'little jewel" or Sedum burro's. So cute! πŸ’• 🌱 ☺️
