navajo princess mangave
i just wanted to ask about my navajo princess mangave. the new growth in the middle going upwards is whitish. this is my first mangave so i was wondering if this is normal or am i not watering enough / over watering ? please let me know what you guys think (the middle is not squishy)
8β pot with drainage
Last watered 2 years ago
@collardamon i believe it is normal. But let me caveat this and say that mangave are relatively new plant only relatively recently discovered so thereβs not a lot of history of people documenting whatβs normal and whatβs not. I think that makes them really cool.
@collardamon I don't know about mangave, but I have Gasteria that have this same appearance for center growth, and I believe it's just typical of a growth spurt...faster than normal growth during some period of time. I take it to mean the plant was just extra happy with the conditions it was experiencing at the time that part of the plant was actively growing.
@UltraKoreanfir awesome !! good news. just wanted to make sure everything was okay. thank you so much for the info ππ
@TexanExpat okay good ! awesome ! i didnβt know that they were discovered pretty relatively thatβs amazing i definitely wanna do some more research now ! thank you so much for letting me know !! π
@collardamon the story inread is that guys in the commercial plant trade were in this area in Mexico where Manfreda plant and Agaves commingled. These plants are native to Texas, where I am, and mexixo. One of them saw another type of plant, and noted the similarities and conciliar that a Manfreda and an Agave had ππ=β€οΈ. They took their discovery back with them to America and since then there has been a breeding program to hybridize them. Here is a link to Debta Lee Baldwin, who is basically the Martha Stewart of succulents, who interviews Tony Avent, who is, as Joe Biden might say , a βBFDβ apparently in the plant biz lol. https://debraleebaldwin.com/succulent-plants/plant-expert-tony-avent-on-mangaves/
@TexanExpat oh wow he has a nursery in raleigh ! iβm from NC so thatβs pretty awesome. thank you so much !!
@collardamon ha. Nice. I really wish his nursery were local to me. He has a humongous inventory of houseplants Iβve never found anywhere else. Check out his cast iron plant and alocasia selections for example
