In doubt, let it callus for a few hours (as in just let it be so the cut part starts making a β€œscar”), then put it in water to grow roots.
Once the main stem is rooted and repotted, you can take paperclips and unbend them (or cut them) to make tiny u-bolts/pins. Pin down at various spots along the stem to keep the leaves/stem close to and just slightly under surface level (but not buried). Each pinned area should start new growths, and you will have masses in no time (a few months).
