#TheWateringHole Happy Monday to everyone at the #TheWateringHole! Hope everyone had a nice weekend with their plant oasis! We’re getting a lot of rain here, which we desperately needed. I managed to avoid having to water the outdoor flowers. Speaking of outdoor flowers, I snapped a few pics of our hosta blooms and one of our outdoor planters yesterday afternoon, but never got around to posting. The last picture is my new baby pitcher plant my stepdaughter had shipped to me. She let my hubby know she was sending a plant, but didn’t let me know what it was, so it was a #PlantMail surprise! Now I just have to study up on how to keep it alive. It’s sitting out on my front porch for now. Any tips appreciated! What’s happening at your oasis? Any new blooms, leaves, plants, pets? #TheWateringHole Hello everyone! Hope y’all had a happy 4th of July! It was pretty boring at our house. We did have a coffee/frappacino date and then had grilled hamburgers and hotdogs. I was just happy to be off work for the weekend. In plant news, I finally got around to repotting my moonshine snake plant, as well as doing a bunch of watering. My hubby just finished watering his hostas and the outdoor flowers. It’s blazing hot outside. I’ve included pics of our July 4th decoration (other than our American flag which stays out year round), my moonshine snake plant in its new digs, and my hubby’s hosta he bought a few weeks ago when we bought our outdoor flowers. Hey I’m back in a not so positive mood i found spider mites on many plants. Didn’t know they were causing so much trouble but even so I took some drastic measures ( buzz cutting the leaves ) it’s NOT fun. First the universe or wtv threw aphids. Gone. Thrips. Almost gone/redused AND ALL OF THIS MANUALLY CAUSE I WAS BORED TO WALK A DISTANCE OF NOT EVEN A KILOMETER TO THE AGRICULTURE STORE. AND NOW SPIDER MITES? Girl I- I DID SEE THEM BUT I SAID SUM SHI LIKE “ Awwww cute lil bug make yourself at home 🥰 “ NO. First it was my tumeric. Then it was my beloved chamomile which I wish is not gonna die. Then my fennel. MY FRENCH LAVENDER YALL DONT KNO IM OUT HERE TRYING TO FIND ALL OF THEM FROM MORNING TILL ALMOST NIGHT. If they touch my lemongrass I’m going crazy. I’m gonna spread the negativitest energy on them. I am starting to forget how to write in English I’m gonna cry cause the lavender is pale and fuzzy WHICH MAKES IT HARDER TO SPOT THEM. Also my lavender might have bortytis HOW IS IT EVEN SPELLED. IT S ALREADY GRAYISH HOW AM I SUPPOSEDTO FIND THE MOLD. If sb read all of this novellike post you the ogs Ilove you pls don’t claim my negative energy I’m keeping it for them. Also quick question. Is Audrey ok? #TheWateringHole Hello All, and Good Afternoon, I have been feeling rather lackadaisical these past few weeks. It seems that my “Get Up And Go”, got up and left? I keep telling myself that I should be doing this, that, and the other but I cannot seem to get anyof it done! Oh well, tomorrow is another day! I did manage to get the plants watered, those that needed watering. So today there are 20 more asking for attention/water. And I did find a new bloom on the Rebutia Albipilosa, did you know that cacti need much more water when they are blooming, or to get them to flower. But the line between a bit more water and overwatering is very fine! And the correct balance is crucial. On my walk yesterday I saw these blooming Frangipani, it had just stopped raining and the colors looked so intense I had to take pictures. Of course I couldn’t overlook the BoP. And I don’t know who that little yellow flower belongs to, but it looked so perfect with the water droplets I just had to post it. Please keep in mind that these aren’t mine and they live outside by the parking lot. Hey everyone! I know this is a long shot, but there's a nursery called San Marcos Growers in Santa Barbara, CA that recently shut down their operations. They're still selling off remaining inventory, including a Tradescantia sillamontana variety called "Huasteca Canyon" they originally collected in the wild in Mexico. And no one else on the planet seems to have it! They're no longer shipping plants, so they can only be picked up in person. So if anyone lives in that area who would be willing to help me out with this, please let me know! I'd of course send you all necessary funds and shipping costs, and also reimburse you for your time. Monstera problems I repotted my monstera a few weeks back, thought she’s enjoy a good soaping from the rain and now my leaves are turning yellow. 🥲I don’t know if it’s fungus because she only a little damp not wet inside. Happy Wednesday at #TheWateringHole my lovely plant people 🤍🌿 The last few days have been quite hot, so I am actually so thankful to see that starting tomorrow it looks like we’re due for almost a week of rain 😮‍💨 🙌 I have not done any laundry, or much else around the house because of the heat. 🥵 I have spent some time checking on my cucumeris mites though 🤓 I just love them. It’s supposed to be less than 90°F/32°C today, so today I play catch-up. Luckily for me, my adhd brain takes that as a challenge. 3 days of work in a few hours? Challenge accepted!! For pictures, we’ve got a new tortum leaf, a ridiculously long latifolia vine that I very much need to make a trellis for, some broadmite ICU patients (my poor beauty star 😭 but she’s hanging on! ) and an excellent microscope that attaches to your phone making taking and sharing pictures a piece of cake, and a picture from said microscope. Green circle is my beneficial predatory mite; the N. cucumeris, and red circle is a feeder mite. ⏱️Want to be notified of these posts when they come out? Hello and calling all #hoyaheads in the US. Just want to let you know about an awesome shop I found on Palmstreet…after I finally figured out how it worked . (It’s generally way too stimulating for me 🤪) Now I just have this shop The Hoya Heaux (🤣🤣🤣) bookmarked, and don’t use anything else. It’s a small family business selling both unrooted and nicely-rooted hoya cuttings and small plants. Everything I’ve got from them has been exceptionally healthy, unique, and packed well, and usually between $1-20 😱 Anyhoo, their next “live” is this Friday 6/26 at 8:30pm CST. #TheWateringHole Good afternoon and Happy Saturday! It was a hellacious week at work, but today I’ve enjoyed tending plants, bird feeders, birdbath, hummingbird feeder, and a good walk around the neighborhood. When I got back from my walk, I snapped a few pics of our outdoor blooms. The flowering pots were bought last Sunday at Walmart and Home Depot so we can’t take any credit for those. God has provided plenty of water so we haven’t had to bother with that. I had to run out to Walmart from work on Monday to pick up something for a patient. I took a swing through the garden center to see if the pothos I had eyed the previous week was still there. I had been suffering from “will power remorse”. It was still there and still the only one of that particular one they had. Meet Albert, my Albo Pothos. Now, I really have to start excercising some will power!! It’s Wednesday at #TheWateringHole 🌿🌤️ Good morning everybody, or should I say good day [good evening, and goodnight!] ? After several days of ~95° 🥵 I am so very very grateful to be back down in the 70°s 😮‍💨 My plants, however, thought it was swell! As I was moving around my plants this morning I was thinking about the satisfying little tasks of plant care that are delightful. For me, one of my favorites is plucking off the totally brown and dried-up sheathes of cane begonia leaves. No force necessary, once they are brown and shriveled, I just touch them and they fall off in my hands. And I don’t *have* to do this, as they will fall off eventually by themselves, but it brings me joy. 🥰 Another one is when I water, and the saucer fills up but does not overflow, and later when I go to check all the water was sucked back up and the pot is the perfect “well-watered weight.” Do you have any small plant care tasks or activities that give you satisfaction or delight? #TheWateringHole Good Morning, to all around the watering hole. I hope everyone has had a gentle start into the new Week and your Monday is progressing smoothly! Since there are only 8 plants vying for water and or attention, I am curious about something that I have been wondering about for sometime now. If you are buying a new plant, a plant that is completely foreign to you, and you know nothing about it. What do you do? Do you go down the proverbial rabbit hole, like I do and try to find out as much as you can about the plant? Or do you just post a question on the App here hoping someone has the answers for you? I often find if I do the research it sticks with me and I can remember it down the line! But again that doesn’t always work that way, more times than not I‘ll go back again and again to look up the same info. Some brain fart just keeps blocking something I desperately am trying to remember. Old age or lack of concentration?? Well, that’s enough of that! Enjoy the start of your week and whatever it may have in store for you.
