#TheWateringHole Good afternoon and Happy Saturday! It was a hellacious week at work, but today I’ve enjoyed tending plants, bird feeders, birdbath, hummingbird feeder, and a good walk around the neighborhood. When I got back from my walk, I snapped a few pics of our outdoor blooms. The flowering pots were bought last Sunday at Walmart and Home Depot so we can’t take any credit for those. God has provided plenty of water so we haven’t had to bother with that.
I had to run out to Walmart from work on Monday to pick up something for a patient. I took a swing through the garden center to see if the pothos I had eyed the previous week was still there. I had been suffering from “will power remorse”. It was still there and still the only one of that particular one they had. Meet Albert, my Albo Pothos. Now, I really have to start excercising some will power!!

I’m terrible with outdoor flowers, but so grateful to those who excel with them! Today, I’m loving the various states of bloom on my orchids, and really excited that my inner variegated polyneura threw off its first pair of variegated leaves after scaring me with a pair of non-variegated as its first set!
@RefinedSandwort it’s been a work in progress! I’ve had all of these guys for years and this is the first time they’ve bloomed in probably 2+ years after consistent watering, sun, and humidity!
@BabeVila OMG! I love them too and am looking forward to mine blooming at the end of the summer as they do every year. They are perennials and are totally worth waiting for, after the other summer flowers have bloomed. I have everything planted this year and love watching them grow and weeding and so on as needed all summer. Plus eating the tomatoes 🍅 when ready!! By the way I retired at the end of Feb. and am totally enjoying planting and growing more than ever this spring!!
@MamaLinne Your orchid blooms are STUNNING Deb! I’ve got one orchid and it’s getting close to blooming (the first successful rebloom for me, so yay 🙌).

I was coming home from work today and actually gasped at someone’s flowers outside. The stems and leaves were almost black, like a deep charcoal grey-purple, but with FUSCHIA blooms on top. I am kicking myself now for not taking a picture…what was I thinking?? If I find them via the interwebs I’ll share what they are.

@MamaLinne aren’t you so glad you didn’t chop those non variegated leaves off?? 😮💨 😮💨 They are sooo beautiful!! And your orchids are gorgeous. We’ll have to call you Ms Orchid Girl! 😉

@AC73LoveCats I hope to retire/cut back to part time work 11 months from now. I can’t wait to have more time for planting and growing, as well as other things!

@RefinedSandwort It will go really fast, so if there is anything to enjoy about your work, let yourself do so now. I recently had a dream about being at work and I really miss my work colleagues. On the other hand, not worrying about work, and having so much more guilt-free time to plant and enjoy it, is just as much fun as you think it will be!!
@RefinedSandwort Making sure we have health insurance is a top priority in our retirement plan too, it just has to be 😒

@RefinedSandwort , Hi Joy. I always say the same thing in that I have to “exercise some will power “when buying plants. It never works. I spend more money than I wanted in Lowes yesterday buying a bunch of new succulents and a bowl to put them in. I have two succulent bowls one of which has nothing but Lithops.
@AC73LoveCats I retired summer of ‘24 and love the extra time I get to spend with my houseplants and gardens. It’s funny, I thought being retired I’d have plenty of time to get everything squared away but no, it’s given me more time to add to the oasis! I got into epiphyllum after a friend shared her cuttings. It opened a whole new door lol 💚🫠!
@RefinedSandwort I agree, it is great to have more planting time this spring! I picked retiring the end of February on purpose.
