Good morning planty people of #TheWateringHole ✨🌿🫶 It is Monday, and I’m busy hurrying around watering everyone outside, as it’s lovely and 60° right now, but we’re supposed to get up to 85°, and if you know me, that is hot, hot, HOT 🥵
I am hoping to get back into the swing of regular posting, but I just had a very couple busy weeks, with picking up a regular shift at work, a trip to the coast 🌊 , and we’re getting into the last couple weeks of school for my kiddo. 🏃🏼♀️🍎⏰
But BIG NEWS!! We are on #pedunclewatch !!! 😱🥳🤩 Since I got into hoyas last summer, I’ve only had the start and subsequent blasting of a couple peduncles on one hoya, my crassipetiolata, but it was just the beginning of winter, and he got too cold and gave up on them. 🥶😔 Who’s the contender this time? My sweet Hoya ‘Bella,’ whom I got only last month, as a cutting in perlite, from my hoya lady on FB marketplace!! Bella is STILL in that cup of perlite, I didn’t get a chance to pot her up yet, and she has 3, count em’ THREE pedunkadunks starting 😱😮💨🤯🤩
As my photos will be peduncles, I’ll add my bountiful morning’s strawberry 🍓 harvest photo in the comments, along with my Mother’s Day snapdragon bloom, and my dahlias (not in bloom yet).

Nadia, that’s exciting! I have new growth everywhere but not even blooms on my strawberries yet. In their defense, I just got them about a month ago. My jade snake plant is getting new leaves as well as my philo berkin, xanthasoma, and my orchid with the keiki is getting ready to bloom again as well!
@HolyLacealoe ooh I just love new xanthosoma leaves! I have two pups growing around the base and they’re putting out new leaves too, it’s just fascinating to watch! Congrats on the blooming keiki orchid, that sounds almost like a swear word 🤭
Your birkin is stunning! I’m having a little bit of an issue with mine. He keeps putting out all white leaves that turn brown and fall off over the next couple weeks 🤷♀️ I know some others have that happen to , but haven’t figured out the ‘why’ yet!

@DreamMachine , I might make it one of my “phrases” that I use instead of cursing 🤬. One of my most used is currently, “God,….bless America!!” As to to, “the birkin issue,” would you keep me in the loop on your research? I will start digging around as well. I can learn a lot too! 🤓🌿🌱🪴

@planthoe40 ruh roh! So ive heard that squirrels are more likely to go after tomatoes as a water source, because they’re thirsty. 🥵 Do you have any birdbaths or does a close by neighbor have any water sources for wildlife? Across the street from me is a neighbor with a fountain/pond ⛲️ , and I’ve never had any squirrels go after my tomatoes! 🍅

@DreamMachine no I don't and it's actually in our lease that we can't. We are not allowed to "feed" any animals. We could be evicted. I got a dirty look from the property manager for feeding a duck some granola.
Nadia; I completely forgot to ask you yesterday. Are the Bella leaves and flowers fuzzy or that furry like texture (I know I’m sounding so scientific right now, so careful with this mind-blowing science I’m speaking of 🤣)? I mean I guess I could just look it up, but I actually just noticed, and I’m so eager to see them bloom, probably not as eager as you! But I’ve got so many questions; what do the Bella’s smell like? Are they fragrant, or more for the flower? Sorry I know… a lot of questions most people would probably already know… 🤦♀️. I love your strawberries! 🍓 I planted some ‘Momo Ichigo’ Japanese strawberries with my strawberries this year! Omg so good, 😊 and unlike any strawberries 🍓 I’ve tasted before… then I grow pineberries strawberries as well as the reds. Ooh, were you able to plant your raspberries?? We just had our first golden raspberries, first ones of the season 🥳 I bet your blackberries are going crazy right now too! 🤔 My strawberry patch isn’t full yet, so mind you still filling in. I need to find some rabbit poops like you! 😉🤣

And the Bella leaves are pretty smooth! I know exactly what you mean, and the only reason I remember the term for those kinds of leaves that are velvety/fuzzy/suede-like is because it makes me chuckle: pubescent. 🤭😂 Teeheheh
As for the flowers, I don’t know yet! But I will absolutely update as and when they open 🥰 I know they are fragrant and quite beautiful. @DreamMachine oooh! I’m so excited to get to experience your first Bella flowers with you! Okay, pubescent just sounds like you are trying to make it sound a little dirty! And that definitely makes me laugh too! 😂. The momo strawberries and honestly I just kinda find the name the greatest ever! So they are like a paler almost peachy like color when they turn ripe, and honestly I thought it was a not so ripe strawberry and I was like I don’t care I’ll eat before my squirrels get it! Ha ha but it was my first only so far, but the flavor was amazing! So they have a pineapple, peachy flavor, but this is the part that threw me a little, and I don’t know how else to explain other than, it’s like a honeydew 🍈 melon smells it has a slight note of it. But it’s a softer, subtle sweet flavor, no tart or anything like. ☺️🤤 Those are my mixed strawberries. I’ve got all my strawberries in that giant planter. I’m probably one of the worst growers just because it’s my own personal plants, and I don’t care if I have clear set which is which. Ha ha 🤣 I just care that they taste good. 😊 Definitely, if you can find them, plant them!! They are well worth it. I know my sister and her family just recently got back from Japan. They have two sets of friends that lived in Texas when their kids were young and grew up with my nieces and nephews, so they stayed close. My sister hosts foreign exchange students, and her kids do the program too, so it’s a pretty rewarding experience. But they had them there and said they were so good. 😊 That and I’m when I’m watching my anime and they say things about it, I love to know and be like, “Yup, so good!” 😊

Ha ha freaking Hoyas, I hear when they start to flower, they get so dang moody! I often wonder about the people who come up with these names; do they do it because it’s hilarious and sounds so hilariously weirdly dirty?? Or are they just that serious that they don’t have immature bone in their body?? I mean; that sounds so boring if they don’t 😂😂 or maybe I just have too strong of opinions and don’t get it. 🤦♀️🤪 either way the names ppl give these things.. is so hilarious; and I’ll never remember them. 🤣

Good morning @DreamMachine and #TheWateringHole gang! It’s Tuesday and trying to get caught up on a few days of posts. Like you Nadia, the last few weeks have been busy. My truck died 🪦 but we didn’t have time to search for a replacement until last week. Fun to look around 🚗 but exhausting too! I’m still playing catch up with the plants 🪴 It was 40+ yesterday 😮 The fly by technique 💦 for now- which ever one gets in my radar gets 👀 & 💧. Today’s count is 29 so some progress. Although yesterday 😩😩😩😩 my 👀 💦came to a screeching halt when I discovered mealies on my callistophylla 😩😩😩😩!!! So then I’m outside, disposable gloves, dumping potting medium into the green ♻️ bin, and then the high pressure hose trying to fling those buggers off!! 😤😖. Poor Callie is in a bathtub 🛀 with her roots wrapped in a towel to keep moist until I’m done watering today’s lot. Then I’ll address her… then strip down & shower 🚿. I’m always positive that whatever pest a plant has, it’s now all over me 😵💫😬😩

My thought/observation is sometimes a Hoya drops the budding flowers while at the same time has active peduncles in various stages. So I’ve wondered if it’s like birds, they lay eggs and know when one isn’t viable so they stop paying attention to it or kick it out of the nest 🪹. Does the Hoya do this on a plant level? Not enough energy for one that’s not developing properly or strong enough to survive and keep the species going? 🤷♀️ Idk, I like pondering stuff like that 🤪
