Rainy day today on Long Island, but the green is Lush! I picked up these 2 new Alocasia (one looks just like a philodendron golden crock without the color) but is a type of Alocasia I never heard of. My caladium bloom has went to sleep (wasnāt pollinated) so it redirected its energy towards the leaves, and sheās big and beautiful and full. New leaf coming on my monstera New leaf unfurled & new leaf coming on my ruby ficus New leaf coming on my 3 kings syngonium Prayer plant props are pushing out new growth šš»šš» I have blue mint monstera and Burle Marx in their humidity domes. Still some rust fungus appearing on my regular mint monstera. Iām 4 treatments in, and although thereās new growth- itās localized. So I do believe I stopped the spread. I commented that I've been looking for something just like it to put in my living room so I can move my monstera and a couple of other plants over to the windows (they've been living on my kitchen counter). When I first saw it I said āWOW THAT IS BEAUTIFULā until I quickly remembered my deliciosa is not veriagatedš I got very nervous for her. Here we are almost 4 weeks later- the patch has not changed size or color, the leaves are still beautifully glossy and firm, no brown edges or crispy tips, no wet tissue, and is actively growing and completely attached to the moss pole with aerial roots. My research told me this can happen for a multitude of reasons, and also that the leaf could basically be unbothered even with that spot. Ever seen or heard of that before? I donāt knew what caused it, but Iām gonna take it as luck. About 2 weeks after receiving it, part of the plant (with the biggest leaf š) started drooping. Iāve never had an Alocasia, but I thought it was a sign of thirst. Iāve heard Alocasias are super dramatic. So I watered her. And it didnāt help. I decided I would try to repot. When I pulled the plant out- the part that was drooping completely separated from the form. Had to throw her away. But I repotted the other half with all of its roots. The plant stayed firm and green and beautiful for about 2 more weeks. I had thought I had saved her. I came home today and she was completely collapsed on the table. This morning, she looked like the firm green happy plant. Idk what happened. I took the support stick out from behind her, and the entire plant came out with it super easily. Iām talking meat falling off the boneš I have no idea what I did wrong. But she is definitely extremely squishy and Iām taking the loss. When I got rid of the other half prior however, I planted the 10 corms that I harvested from her- and a couple have already rooted. So itās ok! I had picked up these small plastic moss poles and figured I would try to attach one of my snow queen cuttings to see if I can train it to climb. It was my first time packing my own moss pole- I just used a simple sphagnum moss, soaking it for about 15 minutes before ringing it out. Not soaking wet, but definitely wet. I lightly tied the vine to the pole with the roots into the moss. I also used the Craft aroid mix from Grow queen. Iāve recently switched all my aroids to this mix and the plants seem to enjoy it as much as I doš A very fun first experience. Ive been absolutely loving my plants! I visited the county master gardenersās nursery this morning. I bought another giant plum ginger and a passion vine. I am going to start building a couple of these tables for my plants. I thought I would share it here. Hereās what they use in their nursery, two by fours and hardware cloth which is quarter inch chicken wire supported by cinder blocks. The dimensions are 8 foot long by 22 inches wide .
