Good morning Wednesday #TheWateringHole 🫶🌿🌤️ How is everyone doing in their neck of the woods? I, like quite a number of #greggers , have some pests in my indoor collection. Broad mites. (Booo hiss!!) They are minuscule, to a lot of people they are microscopic, 1/4 of a millimeter 🤏 small , but I can see them. They look like little dust specks moving around without magnification. They are notoriously hard to contain because of their size. Not only can they come in on a plant, they are so small they can float on a breeze through a window screen. 🦋🐝 How did I find them? I had a few very strange new leaves on two hoyas. They curled in on themselves, lost their shiny luster, appeared grey, and fell off (with my tweezer into a baggie) at a mere touch. I shall post those leaves. You can treat with neem, although it is a lot of labor involved, so this time and with the knowledgeable advice of @MusicalRedmint Susann, I am going PREDATORY MITES. This website DMV Beneficials is amazing. https:// They are a US-based service that offers free consultations to figure out what you’re dealing with and what would be the best predatory bug to help. If you have a pest situation and are feeling a little overwhelmed, reach out to them, they help people all over the states get connected with suppliers of good bugs. They also keep your budget in mind. And it seems like prices are not as bad as they used to be! I may be able to contain my pest issue for less than $50 😮‍💨😮‍💨. And if you are in another country, I highly encourage you to look around for beneficial suppliers near you 🦋🐞 And if you’re in Oregon or Washington, here is the supplier I will most likely be going with. You can check out their prices, only about $1 per sachet! https:// The mites I’m selecting are also microscopic, so you don’t have to see them in your house if that freaks you out. I got sweet pea flowers; I love the smell of sweet pea flowers. While they are super toxic to our furry friends, my dogs and cats have shown zero interest. Thank goodness! 😅 We now have sweet pea photos! Anyone growing sweet peas or anything else that smells so yummy and delicious? 😋 Ps- I’m so anxious today 😬 I’m supposed to have my soil delivery and my last thing I need for my water before I water my plants tonight. #TheWateringHole Hello everyone! Hope y’all had a happy 4th of July! It was pretty boring at our house. We did have a coffee/frappacino date and then had grilled hamburgers and hotdogs. I was just happy to be off work for the weekend. In plant news, I finally got around to repotting my moonshine snake plant, as well as doing a bunch of watering. My hubby just finished watering his hostas and the outdoor flowers. It’s blazing hot outside. I’ve included pics of our July 4th decoration (other than our American flag which stays out year round), my moonshine snake plant in its new digs, and my hubby’s hosta he bought a few weeks ago when we bought our outdoor flowers. FUN FACT! 🌸 So many people mispronounce the names of plants (they can be hard to say sometimes)! Here are some that even you *thought* you were saying correctly! • Peony: PEE-uh-nee • Chrysanthemum: kruh-san-thuh-muhm • Dahlia: day-lee-uh • Iris: ai-ruhs • Poinsettia: poyn-seh-tee-uh • Monstera Deliciosa: mon-STAIR-uh del-liss-sea-OH-suh • Pilea pepperomioides: pie-LEE-uh pep-per-row-me-OY-dees • Dieffenbachia: diff-en-BACK-key-ah 🌸 Some of these have been mispronounced missing syllables or with completely different sounds. Hello and calling all #hoyaheads in the US. Just want to let you know about an awesome shop I found on Palmstreet…after I finally figured out how it worked . (It’s generally way too stimulating for me 🤪) Now I just have this shop The Hoya Heaux (🤣🤣🤣) bookmarked, and don’t use anything else. It’s a small family business selling both unrooted and nicely-rooted hoya cuttings and small plants. Everything I’ve got from them has been exceptionally healthy, unique, and packed well, and usually between $1-20 😱 Anyhoo, their next “live” is this Friday 6/26 at 8:30pm CST. Hello everyone, Here is a “family” portrait of my Avacado plants/trees. I do not propagate my avocado pits in water. First, I soaked the pit in water for about an hour and peel off the outer layer skin. I put them in the soil in a pot, cover them in dirt about 3/4 of the way pointed side up. Then I place a clear plastic cup over the pit and keep the soil moist. Not all the pits will sprout, but about 50%. From the week old baby in the front to eight months old tress in the back. It’s Wednesday at #TheWateringHole 🌿🌤️ Good morning everybody, or should I say good day [good evening, and goodnight!] ? After several days of ~95° 🥵 I am so very very grateful to be back down in the 70°s 😮‍💨 My plants, however, thought it was swell! As I was moving around my plants this morning I was thinking about the satisfying little tasks of plant care that are delightful. For me, one of my favorites is plucking off the totally brown and dried-up sheathes of cane begonia leaves. No force necessary, once they are brown and shriveled, I just touch them and they fall off in my hands. And I don’t *have* to do this, as they will fall off eventually by themselves, but it brings me joy. 🥰 Another one is when I water, and the saucer fills up but does not overflow, and later when I go to check all the water was sucked back up and the pot is the perfect “well-watered weight.” Do you have any small plant care tasks or activities that give you satisfaction or delight? Good morning wonderful plant friends. This is my beautiful Crêpe Myrtle. I planted it many years ago. A few years back it was damaged by several hurricanes and it looked like it was dying. Last year it appeared to be almost completely dead. As a result, I took a chainsaw and, sadly, cut it down. Now it’s coming back with a vengeance. I’m very happy. I guess all it needed was a good pruning. Hi friend, just a quick tip to anyone gardening outdoor this summer. If you see any of the below critters welcome them with open arms. #1 ladybug larvae- they eat bad bugs voraciously #2 ladybug pupa stage # 3 & # 4 ladybugs at different ages these were all found in my veggie garden this morning and I wanted to share. Good evening everyone. I hope you are doing well. This is my blanket plant that I bought at the County master gardeners nursery about three months ago. It has not stopped blooming. A friend of mine also has one and hers has not stopped blooming either. Wow, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a plant bloom this much. FUN FACT! 🌸 So many people mispronounce the names of plants (they can be hard to say sometimes)! Here are some that even you *thought* you were saying correctly! • Peony: PEE-uh-nee • Chrysanthemum: kruh-san-thuh-muhm • Dahlia: day-lee-uh • Iris: ai-ruhs • Poinsettia: poyn-seh-tee-uh • Monstera Deliciosa: mon-STAIR-uh del-liss-sea-OH-suh • Pilea pepperomioides: pie-LEE-uh pep-per-row-me-OY-dees • Dieffenbachia: diff-en-BACK-key-ah 🌸 Some of these have been mispronounced missing syllables or with completely different sounds. Hello and calling all #hoyaheads in the US. Just want to let you know about an awesome shop I found on Palmstreet…after I finally figured out how it worked . (It’s generally way too stimulating for me 🤪) Now I just have this shop The Hoya Heaux (🤣🤣🤣) bookmarked, and don’t use anything else. It’s a small family business selling both unrooted and nicely-rooted hoya cuttings and small plants. Everything I’ve got from them has been exceptionally healthy, unique, and packed well, and usually between $1-20 😱 Anyhoo, their next “live” is this Friday 6/26 at 8:30pm CST. Hello everyone, Here is a “family” portrait of my Avacado plants/trees. I do not propagate my avocado pits in water. First, I soaked the pit in water for about an hour and peel off the outer layer skin. I put them in the soil in a pot, cover them in dirt about 3/4 of the way pointed side up. Then I place a clear plastic cup over the pit and keep the soil moist. Not all the pits will sprout, but about 50%. From the week old baby in the front to eight months old tress in the back. It’s Wednesday at #TheWateringHole 🌿🌤️ Good morning everybody, or should I say good day [good evening, and goodnight!] ? After several days of ~95° 🥵 I am so very very grateful to be back down in the 70°s 😮‍💨 My plants, however, thought it was swell! As I was moving around my plants this morning I was thinking about the satisfying little tasks of plant care that are delightful. For me, one of my favorites is plucking off the totally brown and dried-up sheathes of cane begonia leaves. No force necessary, once they are brown and shriveled, I just touch them and they fall off in my hands. And I don’t *have* to do this, as they will fall off eventually by themselves, but it brings me joy. 🥰 Another one is when I water, and the saucer fills up but does not overflow, and later when I go to check all the water was sucked back up and the pot is the perfect “well-watered weight.” Do you have any small plant care tasks or activities that give you satisfaction or delight? Good morning wonderful plant friends. This is my beautiful Crêpe Myrtle. I planted it many years ago. A few years back it was damaged by several hurricanes and it looked like it was dying. Last year it appeared to be almost completely dead. As a result, I took a chainsaw and, sadly, cut it down. Now it’s coming back with a vengeance. I’m very happy. I guess all it needed was a good pruning. A friend of mine also has one and hers has not stopped blooming either. Wow, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a plant bloom this much.
