Hello 👋 plant friends and #TheWateringHole crew! It’s Thursday afternoon and I’m taking a watering break 💦 🪴! I know we’re supposed to water early but that’s just not always possible 🤪 Besides I got distracted admiring each of the 🌱🌱🌱🌱 on the schedule 👀. This snake plant 🐍 🪴 is one of my earliest on Greg. I got him November 2021 and joined Greg January 2022 🗓️ 😮. Doesn’t seem that long ago!!! Anyway last year he gave me a scare 😬 tipping to one side, I checked his roots to discover there were hardly any!! I’d been gleefully bottom watering 🥣 💧 thinking the water was wicking up but that wasn’t it. His roots were dry, soil at bottom was wet, and I was faced with a dying plant. Down potted way down, probably a good 2” smaller pot, with fresh soil and stakes for support. Gave him a grow light. Here are his roots today 😊 🎉

Great save @MariansOasis !!! Those roots are looking amazing now, and that’s a good reminder that repotting doesn’t always have to go 🆙 if it doesn’t make sense. I was late watering today too - first day with my boss back this week and I was cooked!! 😪 Can’t believe summer is flying past us! I think I joined Greg a little over a year ago now. I’ve been fawning over this new Lamoon. She grows like a weed and keeps popping new blooms. Wish I could take credit, but I’ve only had her a few weeks now.

I’m recently became what I’d call a real plant person. I’ve always had an issue with overwatering then of course I’ve underwatered. Pothos was my only thriving plants. I’ve done a lot of research into light, water and soil mixtures and have had recent success expanding my collection. I only started using Greg this month I think my Jades are my favorite
@StaunchPuriri22 oh the overwater that leads to the fearful underwater syndrome! 😆 I’m a recovering ‘over waterer ➡️ underwatering’ plant parent! Out of my underwatering phase for several months now. My plants are once again doing a happy dance 💃 🪩 🕺 of growing 🌱 👍 😮💨

It’s good you enjoy researching 🔬 There’s a lot of misinformation on the web so be aware. I like your charts but I take exception to the (almost) Zero Light one. Yes those plants will exist in low light but they will slowly die of starvation. Sun is food for plants and without it they will not thrive. ☀️ 🪴

@StaunchPuriri22 welcome to Greg! Like Marian @MariansOasis I was also an overwaterer turned underwaterer 😅 🌊 🏜️ and I also take exception to that second info graphic. Except for the palm, of which I’m unfamiliar, I would say bromeliads, spider plants, and ZZ plants are HIGH light plants ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ You *can* put them in low light, but they won’t be happy. 😭 And putting *any* of those plants in almost zero light is a long slow death sentence. It can take a bit before you realize not every infographic knows what they’re talking about 😆 and there’s soooo much plant misinformation out there. 🙄 🤪 But you already found Greg, so that’s great! Lots of helpful and informed people here, I hope we see you around!

@DreamMachine I can try sending you a clipping in the fall (they’re supposedly bad shippers), but I have a feeling they will be everywhere before then. Don’t pay these crazy prices. Steve’s Leaves in particular, I was shocked at. I’ve seen them in at least 3 different places in nyc in the $30-35 range, and like I said, they grow like a weed. I haven’t had less than 2 growth points going at a time and usually, the next leaf is starting before the last one is even hardened off! It’s such a pretty one. @Forbes57 thanks Patti! We do have some similar, but you are much more brave with cactus and succulents than I am! lol I see you’re propping a begonia too! Such fun variety you have!
Hello! Just got back from being out of town for the week and came home to a bunch of hoya peduncles- that’s a lovely surprise! My husband, who was in charge of keeping humidifiers full, takes full credit, of course. 🥰😂
I think the plants I’m most proud of are two hoyas I got early on when I didn’t know how obsessed with hoyas I would get (37 varieties and counting). They were tiny little cuttings or plants with no color, and now they’re absolute stunners! I love hoyas because they mature slowly, but really reward you when they do!

@Jho hehehe, not to worry, I am a frugal B, they won’t get me with those 💸 💸🤣🤪 But HOLY 💩 I just looked at Steve’s Leaves 😱😱😮💨😮💨 How in the world do they manage to charge SO much? Green Escape had them the other day, and I’m perfectly willing to wait for a less than $20 one to come around again 😮💨😮💨 And, you’re a sweetie, I appreciate your offer ❤️🫶 😘 but those things melt so fast in the mail. Did you get yours with blooms? Or is she just a crazy fast bloomer?
@Devsleafypals good looking jade plant!! I’m not familiar enough with the different varieties of jade to 🆔. Mine are the most common jade. And they all live outside 😊👍

@GracedStrapwort you should be proud of that calathea! She’s very pretty, beautiful color 🩷💚. I tried calatheas early on unsuccessfully. I wish I knew then what I know now. But it’s all good. Only way to learn is by trial and error 👍
@DreamMachine it had the ones up top when I brought it home but the lower ones are new. And those lower, smaller leaves at the bottom are new since I brought it home. 🤷♂️ Claude said it needed something like 8000 lux and it’s definitely not getting that from the window unless it catches a few minutes of cloudless sunset. My Black Magic definitely needs more light than just the window - I’m trying to find a good grow light spot for it so it’s nice and spooky like yours in time for 👻 🎃🦇. @MamaLinne 37!!! Holy cow. Look at that peduncathon!! I’m choosing my first foray into the Hoya world. I want something that sunstresses orange, I think.. 🤔 @GracedStrapwort you SHOULD be proud of that calathea!! I know that took some dedication. @Devsleafypals that’s a great jade! And even better that he doesn’t give you any headaches! lol

@MariansOasis Sorry for being late to the watering hole! I am a recovering over waterer who now struggles with underwatering, especially since I’ve branched out from succulents.
