Happy Monday! I purchased my White Queen Caladium as a tuber (photo attached). Therefore, I’ve had the pleasure of watching the growth completely from start to finish. I noticed a couple weeks ago that there was some growth that didn’t look familiar to me. Keep in mind this is my first caladium ever. I let the plant do its thing and I just watched. But every day I would look at the “weird” growth and think….. why the heck won’t this leaf unfurl. Until this morning. It dawned on me. Is it possible my Caladium is blooming? AND CLICK. I THINK THATS EXACTLY WHAT IS HAPPENING. I wish I could insert videos- i know I keep posting sunsets but WOW. We’ve been getting some beautiful ones, and I’m very grateful. These photos are not edited. As for my Greenhouses: I leave shortly for my month long trip through Asia, so I unfortunately do not have time to get a functioning greenhouse built before I leave. I’ve reached out to so many people- it is just not possible. So I quickly purchased something somewhat useful for the rest of the season- just to get some outdoor growth. But I WILL have more functional ones built for the spring. As always I will keep you guys updated :) I put my monstera dubia inside and she’s already climbing like I wanted her too! Happy Monday! Rainy day today on Long Island, but the green is Lush! I picked up these 2 new Alocasia (one looks just like a philodendron golden crock without the color) but is a type of Alocasia I never heard of. My caladium bloom has went to sleep (wasn’t pollinated) so it redirected its energy towards the leaves, and she’s big and beautiful and full. New leaf coming on my monstera New leaf unfurled & new leaf coming on my ruby ficus New leaf coming on my 3 kings syngonium Prayer plant props are pushing out new growth 🙌🏻🙌🏻 I have blue mint monstera and Burle Marx in their humidity domes. Still some rust fungus appearing on my regular mint monstera. I’m 4 treatments in, and although there’s new growth- it’s localized. So I do believe I stopped the spread. Destiny had a much needed tending too today. She was moved into a bigger pot and I was able to get 5 more plants off of her and able to keep much of her original self together. Also have a few props started to give away from her also. Went exploring in the FL Panhandle to see #carnivorousplants ! These sites were by far the largest that I have ever been to. The #sarracenia #pitcherplants) sprawled as far as I could see at one of the sites in the Apalachicola National Forest! I primarily saw Sarracenia flava, or the yellow pitcher plant. More specifically lotsa Sarracenia flava var. rugelii & Sarracenia flava var. rubricorpora! I was absolutely delighted to have seen rubricorpora in the wild for the first time; the red of rubricorpora is just absolutely stunning. At one of the sites in Blackwater River State Forest I also saw Sarracenia leucophylla, or the white-topped pitcher plant, growing amongst the flava! And, of course, a whole lot of Sarracenia psittacina, or the parrot pitcher plant, growing underneath the tall sarrs! They can be very tricky to avoid stepping on because they grow in such numbers! One of the highlights for me, though, was finding Pinguicula planifolia! I cannot remember the common name of it right now, but its one of Florida's native butterworts .. And my personal favorite! Happy Monday! I unfortunately can’t seem to shake the rust fungus off of my Monstera Mint. I have been doing treatments with captain jacks for a little over a month now. (Spraying the entire plant once every 9 days)- and there’s still ALOT of new fungal growth. The fungus is only on the small leaves- the 2 largest leaves are untouched, including the newest leaf. My issue is, it’s on the 5 smaller leaves. And there’s only 7 leaves total. So I can’t clip these off. The plant is super healthy and beautiful otherwise. Any suggestions? I got free tradescantia from Under the Sun 🤩🤩 And not just piddly little pieces, either—big LONG trailing pieces that had broken off of potted plants! Nap Time! 😂😂 well I finally repotted my Boston Fern. This old girl needs a good, long- nap! It took me almost 2 hours of struggling, cussing, kicking and -well more cussing…in this 98 degree heat…to get this beast out of the pot. 🫣 it is 38 inches tall and 43 inches wide…and weighed a ton. Pretty sure I pulled out 25 leaves, if not more. Roots were wrapped around top and bottom on of the planter. What- the middle section stank??!?? When I first saw this plant among the real ones at a local grocery store I thought it was a fake someone left there. Turns out its real which makes it so neat I had never seen one like it.
