Hello everyone here is a little morning blog from rural Florida. Yesterday I received a package of 119,000 seeds of Florida native flowering plants. In addition tomorrow I have 5000 Blue Sage Seeds arriving 🪻🪴 🌼🌸. 🦋🐝🦜🧑‍🌾. Some of the seeds I plan on planting in my immediate front yard. I would rather see flowering plants than weeds and grass. After that another, big, bird feeder and I brought a hummingbird feeder at Lowes. Lately I have been seeing Hummingbirds in my front yard. At first I thought they were insects. In rural Florida we,often, have flying insects as big as Hummingbirds. After watching I realized what I was seeing. Not a “dive bomber” bug but a Hummingbird 😲🤩 Wow they are cool to watch. I thought I might, as well feed them too. I am turning my place into a haven of resources for birds, bees and butterflies. All my best always. Good morning everyone. I hope all is well with your family and your adopted plant family. Here is another photo I took yesterday, just outside, of the master gardeners’s nursery. This is a swallowtail butterfly on an aster plant. There are over 25 species of swallowtail butterflies in Florida and this is one I am not familiar with. I think this is a Spicebush Swallowtail. Got my hands on something interesting today, A whole bag of soap nuts/ Reetha fruits. There very literal nuts that you can use to wash your hands with, the even sud up and everything due to the compound saponin which is a soap like compound produced by many plants as a defense mechanism, The Reetha/ Soap nut is but one native and famous in my area. An Adult fiddle leaf Fig!? Ever wondered what that frustrating fiddle leaf would look like in maturity? Well look no further. Our here in Pakistan and specialty in my city the climate and weather are just right to match the South African habitat that the houseplant fiddle leaf tree we all know is from, so it's common to even see it as a street tree the first one is much younger one but you already see the flowers and yes fruits of the fiddle leaf fig on it. Surprising they look a lot like small peaches to me, but with there giant seed inside small fruit plup. So were they what you imagined? I specially love the shade of fiddle leaf they truly create this umbrella canopy with those giant leaves. Funny from being a place native to many other figs, the scared fig to banyan we know even have a common house plant taking its reign as one of the best street tree 🌲🌳🌴 #fiddleleaffig #matureplants #greggang #happyplants

I posted this photo to help identify this plant. Here is a plant that, maybe, few people see although they are very common here in the swamps or almost anywhere ditches can be found. This a Water Hemlock plant. It looks very much, in appearance , to Queen Ann’s lace. The difference is there is a purple coloration in the stems where they bifurcate. The flowers also are larger. If you see one do not even touch it. Here is something that, to me, was a bit distressing. I rarely go into a big box nursery. These days I buy most of my plants at local nurseries and propagate the rest. Today I went into the Walmart nursery looking for bricks for my walkway. I noticed a cart in there that was full of hanging basket plants. There was a sign on them stating that they were going to dispose of them today. I asked the guy in the garden section if “they were going give them away or sell them at a discount. I would buy several of them and save them”. The nursery guy said “Walmart does not give anything to anybody and if they sell them , they will sell them at full price”. The garden section/nursery guy was empathetic when he said it.What a waste. I know I could’ve saved most of those plants easily. Walmart would rather throw a whole cart of ,good, plants away rather than mark them down. In my opinion, that’s very spiteful. Good morning everyone. Here’s a photo of my impending butterfly garden. It’s all native Florida plants. The plants in the foreground are plants I bought at the local Master Garden nursery. Good morning everyone. Thank you for answering my question about the  oleander aphids .Yesterday morning when I went outside to check on my garden, I found 100s of seeds sprouting for my butterfly garden. It was amazing how quickly they sprouted. I already have native milkweed, Florida Paintbrush, Firespike, Blanket plants, scarlet that are established and scarlet sage. They are difficult to eradicate in one go. How to prevent and spot Start by quarantining any new plants you bring into your home. Carefully inspect your new plant babies and wipe down their leaves. After new plants are acclimated to your home make sure to scan them regularly for pests. Check for webbing or cottony masses on the underside of the leaves. Nipping them in the bud Most pests can be eradicated using a mixture of water, neem oil, and dish soap. If you're using neem oil, be sure to apply it late in the day, as direct sunlight can burn an oil-treated leaf. 1) Spider mites and mealybugs: Prune infested sections, then wipe down leaves 2) Fungus gnats: Use dual-sided yellow sticky traps to catch these flying buggers Larger bugs like spiders and ladybugs are your friends and often help keep other pests under control. Cleaning? So, I never paid a bunch of attention to if and how dirty my plants were. Until today. ☹️ I went to water my Pink Princess and was horrified. Dirty, Durty, Dirty!!! It’s only been a week since I got my new gloves and plant wipes- and cleaned for the first time, and I shouldn’t be surprised as all my plants are out back on the patio….but wow. So- sat out there cleaning all the plants (well, not the cacti!). Look at this dirt!! Gloves and wipe from just 2 plants are both - gross. This is a Blue Spire Sage. This was at the Master gardeners nursery this morning. This plant had literally dozens of big bumblebees on it while what a great pollinator.
