Hello plant friends ✨🌿💛 It’s Monday at #TheWateringHole and my Hoya sp aff burtoniae has BLOOMED!!! He smells delicious. To me he’s like an incredibly buttery caramel or butterscotch. But it’s so funny how scent is objective, I brought him to my kiddo to smell, and they said “smells like yogurt.” 🤨🤨🤯 YOGURT?? 🤣🤣 Anyhoo, enjoy the blooms. They are so very smol 🥹🤏 I have one more peduncle that should open soon, and just discovered 3 more in the works. Do you all have any planty plans for today? Good Morning :) Snoop seems to be entering the flowering phase 🙌🏻👏🎊 The white ‘hairs’ are actually called Pistils , and they are the primary reproductive organ of the female cannabis plant. Pistils actually act like little fingers, their job is to catch the airborne pollen of the male cannabis plant. This would allow the plant to make seeds( or babies). However, I have an auto flowering female cannabis plant. That means the pistils will not catch pollen to create seeds, but instead- the plant will create dense buds . This is the first time I have ever grown cannabis. A purchased 5 seeds. I germinated one of the seeds (using the paper towel method)- popped it in a 5 gallon bucket- and threw it under the sun. My plant isn’t perfect, my setup isn’t perfect- my care is certainly not perfect. But I’m happy I tried. And she seems like she will definitely produce. It is very easy to get discouraged with plants, especially one like cannabis. It’s easy to get into your head from things you’ve read that just tell you it’s too hard- but you’ll never know if you don’t try. I have a fun experiment/ group effort idea: Starting next week- I would love each one you (whoever sees this post and maybe whoever else you want to tag) to find a plant that you thought was to hard to take care of. If you buy a whole plant, a cutting, a corm, ect- it doesn’t matter. As long as you found it difficult to take care of at some point. Let’s give it another shot. All together, we can take care of our “crazy hard” plants. And we can all enjoy the updates that come through this thread, (I’m positive it will read ALOT of success). Because YOU can do anything. No such thing as too hard! And you may not need an elaborate setup or plan 🤷‍♂️ I can make a seperate post with tags if anybody is interested. Anyways, have an amazing Sunday. PS: I am over the legal age of 21. Cannabis planting/ growing/ smoking/ buying ect is LEGAL recreationally and medically in the state of NY. DO NOT engage with this post if Underage. Hello plant friends ✨🌿💛 A Thursday #TheWateringHole Appreciation Post for my dear Hoya sp. aff. burtoniae. I don’t care that you can get him anywhere, I think you SHOULD go get him. In fact, your task, should you choose to accept it, is to go out and find yourself one, after reading this post. He is my favorite. 🤫🤐 Hoya sp. aff. burtoniae is sold and often mislabeled under many names: -Hoya burtoniae (unless you’re ordering from a collector/reputable dealer who has a ‘true’ species burtoniae, most likely if you’re getting this plant in the commercial US market, it will be “Hoya sp. aff. burtoniae.” Which means an unnamed species that looks quite similar to the actual burtoniae.) -H. DS-70 -H. bilobata (real bilobata will have smooth leaves) -H. tsangii (same, true tsangii has smooth leaves) But my dear beloved sp. aff. burtoniae (and the true burtoniae) have leaves like velvet suede. A truly pet-able, emotional support hoya. Even my siblings (who are not as flora-philic as I am) dropped their mouths open in awe as they touched his leaves. His baby leaves, and he has MANY at all times, come out an adorable rose-mauve pink color. 🥹🥰💀 Right now he has two peduncles and I am waiting with bated breath to see them open. Supposed to be a butterscotch/caramel-y scent and I just cannot wait!! And, oh my gosh it’s the 27th! I kid you not, I just realized that today is his ONE year anniversary of coming to his forever home 😱😭🎂🥳🎊 He is The One who started me on my hoya journey, exactly one year ago today. 🥹 My first hoya and *still* my favorite, even though he’s now joined by 40 or so hoya siblings and relations. Gotta catch em all! And really, 40 out of 700 possible hoya species and cultivars is quite a low number. In the grand scheme of things. 🙂‍↕️ ⏱️Want to be notified of these posts when they come out? Monstera growing SO fast. The plant on the right is my mother plant. I propagated 3 cuttings about 2-3 months ago, and put them in soil on July 10th. Yesterday I had to repot them because the roots were growing out the top and bottom. A month?!?!? Had anyone else had props grow this fast? I wish I could insert videos- i know I keep posting sunsets but WOW. We’ve been getting some beautiful ones, and I’m very grateful. These photos are not edited. As for my Greenhouses: I leave shortly for my month long trip through Asia, so I unfortunately do not have time to get a functioning greenhouse built before I leave. I’ve reached out to so many people- it is just not possible. So I quickly purchased something somewhat useful for the rest of the season- just to get some outdoor growth. But I WILL have more functional ones built for the spring. As always I will keep you guys updated :) I put my monstera dubia inside and she’s already climbing like I wanted her too! #TheWateringHole Good afternoon 🌞 and happy Monday to all my #TheWateringHole friends! After a couple of crazy busy weeks at work, followed by working some over the weekend, I’m enjoying a rare weekday off! Did a little watering before heading out for an out of town doctor appointment. After getting back and having a late Waffle House brunch, I’ve been finishing up the watering and doing a little oasis re-arranging to make more room. Pic one is on my way home from the our local Ingles grocery store with my new philodendron Birken I bought after encouragement from my plant 🪴 addiction enabler aka my husband. While looking 👀 the department manager came over to help. We talked plants for a few minutes and she let me know when they get deliveries 🚚 . Grocery stores have upped their plant 🪴 game in recent years. What’s your favorite grocery store plant source? Pic 2 is my new leaf 🍃 my starfish snake 🐍 plant is pushing out. It’s a slow grower so I get real excited to see new growth. I really want it to produce pups, but looks like I’ll have to keep waiting. pic 3 is my moonshine snake 🐍 plant It’s pup is really growing now! I need to do some repotting, but it’s way too hot 🥵 outside right now! Speaking of repotting, what soil or blends do you recommend for repotting pothos? I’m getting adds for Molly’s Aroid Mix in my Facebook feed? Anyone have experience with that product? So what’s happening at your oasis today? I got free tradescantia from Under the Sun 🤩🤩 And not just piddly little pieces, either—big LONG trailing pieces that had broken off of potted plants!
