Here is a plant that, maybe, few people see although they are very common here in the swamps or almost anywhere ditches can be found. This a Water Hemlock plant. It looks very much, in appearance , to Queen Ann’s lace. The difference is there is a purple coloration in the stems where they bifurcate. The flowers also are larger. If you see one do not even touch it. Ever wondered what that frustrating fiddle leaf would look like in maturity? Well look no further. Our here in Pakistan and specialty in my city the climate and weather are just right to match the South African habitat that the houseplant fiddle leaf tree we all know is from, so it's common to even see it as a street tree the first one is much younger one but you already see the flowers and yes fruits of the fiddle leaf fig on it. Surprising they look a lot like small peaches to me, but with there giant seed inside small fruit plup. So were they what you imagined? I specially love the shade of fiddle leaf they truly create this umbrella canopy with those giant leaves. This old girl needs a good, long- nap! It took me almost 2 hours of struggling, cussing, kicking and -well more cussing…in this 98 degree heat…to get this beast out of the pot. 🫣 it is 38 inches tall and 43 inches wide…and weighed a ton. Pretty sure I pulled out 25 leaves, if not more. Roots were wrapped around top and bottom on of the planter. What- the middle section stank??!?? Anyway- new pot (24” half whiskey barrel) from 18 inch plastic. These sites were by far the largest that I have ever been to. The #sarracenia #pitcherplants) sprawled as far as I could see at one of the sites in the Apalachicola National Forest! I primarily saw Sarracenia flava, or the yellow pitcher plant. More specifically lotsa Sarracenia flava var. rugelii & Sarracenia flava var. rubricorpora! I was absolutely delighted to have seen rubricorpora in the wild for the first time; the red of rubricorpora is just absolutely stunning. At one of the sites in Blackwater River State Forest I also saw Sarracenia leucophylla, or the white-topped pitcher plant, growing amongst the flava! And, of course, a whole lot of Sarracenia psittacina, or the parrot pitcher plant, growing underneath the tall sarrs! They can be very tricky to avoid stepping on because they grow in such numbers! One of the highlights for me, though, was finding Pinguicula planifolia! I cannot remember the common name of it right now, but its one of Florida's native butterworts .. And my personal favorite! A bit warm but not beastly hot 🥵 😮💨. Waiting for the afternoon breeze off the ocean 🌊 🌬️ to cool things off 🏖️. Tried posting earlier but poof 💨 it disappeared so here’s a quick mini version: my Moonshine philodendron hasn’t grown much all spring/summer. Protected southern window, Superthrive Pro, up-potted to 6” pot May 2024. Any advice? Pics of my encyclia orchid still in treatment/isolation for thrips 😖 . The first treatment (insecticidal soap with spinosad) didn’t go so well as I rubbed too hard evidently and stripped parts of some leaves 🍃 of protective coating. But he seems to be recovering ❤️🩹 and has some new growth so 😮💨 😌 😅!!! Last 2 pics are SOH cuttings, so sweetly sent by @stephongreg so I can have another go at trying to raise SOH 🩷🤍💚. The sphagnum moss pot is doing well 👍 although it’ll be a job getting them off the moss and into pots 😑. The soil prop pot should be good to go as is🫡👍. My 2 newest Crepe Myrtle’s….about a year old…hubby went to water and said “hey what’s the white cr*p on the trunk?” I freaked out. Ugh…I should have kept my mouth shut when I said I’d never had anything bad, just a little spider mite on 1 of my plants. Yep- it’s Crepe Myrtle Bark Scale. Took my scrub brush, soap and neem and started cleaning. Hubby thinks we’re crazy for scrubbing trees. I don’t! I’ve babied these 2 for a year (had 2 others that died). A bit warm but not beastly hot 🥵 😮💨. Waiting for the afternoon breeze off the ocean 🌊 🌬️ to cool things off 🏖️. Tried posting earlier but poof 💨 it disappeared so here’s a quick mini version: my Moonshine philodendron hasn’t grown much all spring/summer. Protected southern window, Superthrive Pro, up-potted to 6” pot May 2024. Any advice? Pics of my encyclia orchid still in treatment/isolation for thrips 😖 . The first treatment (insecticidal soap with spinosad) didn’t go so well as I rubbed too hard evidently and stripped parts of some leaves 🍃 of protective coating. But he seems to be recovering ❤️🩹 and has some new growth so 😮💨 😌 😅!!! Last 2 pics are SOH cuttings, so sweetly sent by @stephongreg so I can have another go at trying to raise SOH 🩷🤍💚. The sphagnum moss pot is doing well 👍 although it’ll be a job getting them off the moss and into pots 😑. The soil prop pot should be good to go as is🫡👍. My husband gave this to me last year for Mothers Day. It was in a planter with 2 other plants. My 2 newest Crepe Myrtle’s….about a year old…hubby went to water and said “hey what’s the white cr*p on the trunk?” I freaked out. Ugh…I should have kept my mouth shut when I said I’d never had anything bad, just a little spider mite on 1 of my plants. Yep- it’s Crepe Myrtle Bark Scale. Took my scrub brush, soap and neem and started cleaning. Hubby thinks we’re crazy for scrubbing trees. I don’t! I’ve babied these 2 for a year (had 2 others that died).
