Itโs a beautiful sunny Thursday here โ๏ธ. A bit warm but not beastly hot ๐ฅต ๐ฎโ๐จ. Waiting for the afternoon breeze off the ocean ๐ ๐ฌ๏ธ to cool things off ๐๏ธ.
Tried posting earlier but poof ๐จ it disappeared so hereโs a quick mini version: my Moonshine philodendron hasnโt grown much all spring/summer. Protected southern window, Superthrive Pro, up-potted to 6โ pot May 2024. Any advice?
Pics of my encyclia orchid still in treatment/isolation for thrips ๐ . The first treatment (insecticidal soap with spinosad) didnโt go so well as I rubbed too hard evidently and stripped parts of some leaves ๐ of protective coating. But he seems to be recovering โค๏ธโ๐ฉน and has some new growth so ๐ฎโ๐จ ๐ ๐ !!!
Last 2 pics are SOH cuttings, so sweetly sent by @stephongreg so I can have another go at trying to raise SOH ๐ฉท๐ค๐. The sphagnum moss pot is doing well ๐ although itโll be a job getting them off the moss and into pots ๐. The soil prop pot should be good to go as is๐ซก๐. Thank you Steph!!!๐ซถ๐ผ๐ซถ๐ผ๐ซถ๐ผ

@MariansOasis Hello Marion and everyone at #TheWateringHole ! Itโs hot ๐ฅต and humid here in GA. @MariansOasis that Philodendron might not have grown much, but it is beautiful! I lost some leaves on my variegated SOH after I repotted in terracotta and then proceeded to let it get too dry. Itโs recovering โค๏ธโ๐ฉน. At some point I might try pinning mine to get some growth back on top. These tiny terracotta pots dry out quickly. Looks like the appendage growing out of my moonshine snake ๐ plant is a baby moonshine! Last picture: please donโt laugh. I got the plastic stakes that look ๐ like little limbs and tried to stake/ trellis my Albo Pothos. Unfortunately, I discovered that itโs like trying to do a craft project for which I have no talent. It might get a repot before long, at which time Iโll try again. Iโve got more stakes and clips, etc. to play with.
@RefinedSandwort hi Joy ๐ I bet itโs hot there! Our Padres played โพ๏ธ in Atlanta today. It looked very warm and threatening clouds ๐ง๏ธ ๐ฉ๏ธ !!
I have a love/hate relationship with terracotta ๐คช. When it works, itโs great. But most of the time Iโm guessing too dry? Too wet? Am I just watering an absorbent pot thatโs claiming all the water ๐ฆ?? ๐ฎโ๐จ
Congrats on baby moonshine snake ๐. So cute! And I get what you mean about trellising projects ๐ณ. Itโs not as easy as people make it look! ๐ But your pothos looks fabulous anyway!! ๐๐ซถ๐ผ

SOH is dead to me. I've killed so many. Just like spider plants and dieffenbachia. Your moonlight is beautiful. I got mine as a rescue from Lowes. She's grown a little. I feel i need to take her out of the talenti jar. Not bc she has outgrown it but bc the roots get so compacted and when you go to repot you have to be extra careful or you will lose some roots. Hubby put up my new shelf last night. I repotted some hoyas. I absolutely love her in that pink pot. Gave my painted lady some dry dirt. A better mixture of dirt at that. I went a little crazy this time around when I had to repurchase dirt. Amazon had a 2 bag deal on perlite but then I decided I couldn't wait for it to get here so I went to Lowe's and got 2 bags. So I have 4 bags in my dirt this time. It took forever to mix it all in ๐คฃ๐คฃ It's been raining ๐ง here all day.
@MariansOasis Marian I hope youโre taking notes with SOH imma need it when yours are growing all over the place. Great job ๐ they are beautiful
@RefinedSandwort very pretty Joy
@planthoe40 beautiful
@planthoe40 ๐คช SOH weโre dead to me too, for a while haha ๐. Gonna give it another try during this nice humid summer weather! Your Hoyas look great! Which one is in the blue pot?
@FitBrowallia thanks Jonchel ๐ซถ๐ผ๐๐ฉท. Any new plant mail for you this week??
@MariansOasisthere are 2 in there and I really have no idea. It was during that 3 month Etsy wormhole I went thru. The only requirement was it had to be a hoya and under $20 ๐คทโโ๏ธ. I still have some that need new pots. Like the second picture. It's a carnosa freckles.
My Thursday. Was long at work. But my plant mail I got Tuesday is showing me love. Look a flower. Most of babies are so young I donโt get flowers and the others that should give me flowers must donโt like me. Here he is โฆthe other pictures are the other plants in my plant mail. I went over board the past few weeks and bought more than 20 plants ๐ชด
@MariansOasis I canโt keep them alive either all the strings dislikes me
@MariansOasis how did you know ๐ฅบ๐
@planthoe40 gorgeous Misty
@FitBrowallia I think i have killed every single one except string of coins and string of turtles. I really want a string of turtles but I just can't because I know I'm going to kill it. Your new plants and beautiful
@planthoe40 imma a sucker for punishment. Iโve had several string of turtles pearls hearts coins Iโm missing something. And the start growing and bam theyโre dead. Thanks.
@planthoe40 those are pretty!
I started using this super coarse Pumice I get off Amazon. I was using the regular size Iโd gotten from Home Depot, but I found making a mix of 50/50 soil + pumice- the pumice made hard little โballsโ- that got very hard- and my plants werenโt draining the way they should. Once I repotted all my plants with this- all seem to really like it, and Iโm getting tons of growth. My Pothos are ridiculously growing. I just saw the 4th baby on my Song of India. My 1 yr old Dragon tree just hit the same height my 12 yr old is- over 5 foot. Even my Aloe (which I thought was dying)- put out a baby! But, I also started using Worm Castings, and Iโm sure that has helped as well. My Swiss Chese vine props have more than doubled in size since I put them in soil- that was so fun to do/watch- my first time! Itโs dark out now but I will take some pics tomorrow ๐๐ชด๐
@FitBrowallia I found a deal last year on Etsy buy one get one free on the verigated SOH so I got it. I figured if I killed one I'd have a back up. I heard the light had to be shinning directly on top of them or they would die so what did I do but them within 5 inches of the light in little terracotta pots. Apparently that was too much light and I fried them. Both of them. ๐คฆโโ๏ธ I haven't tried again since.
@RefinedSandwort thank you
@MariansOasis @planthoe40 @FitBrowallia This is my first attempt at strings. My stepdaughter encouraged me to buy it at a plant sale as I was about to leave empty handed. Weโll see how it goes. It has lasted 2 months so far!
@planthoe40 I understand. I have the majority of my plants under grow lights. They seem to help a lot since Iโm in an apartment. I think I may have gotten some plants from that sale. I buy all my plants from Etsy. The discounts are great. Then again Iโm keeping most is the shops in business ๐คฆ๐พโโ๏ธ
@FitBrowallia What is the 2nd plant in your second set of pictures? Love the coloring on the underside of the leaves.
@MariansOasis Good Evening, everyone, it has been a while since I have been on here. I have a Philodendron Moonshine, since June. I also have repotted mine into a 6โ planter, with a mixture of FoxFarm Ocean Forest soil, orchid bark and perlite. My Moonshine is in a north facing window ๐ช with a grow light, indirectly a little to the side. I bottom water and the fertilizer, I use is FoxFarm Liquid Plant Food. I hope this information helps. ๐ One other thing, I also use a pebble tray!
@RefinedSandwort black goldfish
@SweetAzurebluet glad your back Harriet. I missed you and those beautiful plants. I use the fox farm and orchid bark. Didnโt think to add more perlite. It look like a lot al ready. I use we are wild fertilizer.
@SweetAzurebluet Looks like what youโre doing is working! That plant is gorgeous!!
@FitBrowallia glad to see you here too. ๐ I switch from We The Wild, I wanted to try something different. I also used to use Mollyโs. Sometimes, the FoxFarm is to compact, so the perlite breaks down the soil, so the roots of the plant can breathe
@RefinedSandwort Thanks much, my dear! ๐
@SweetAzurebluet thanks Iโll add it back to my mix.
@FitBrowallia youโre welcome, my dear! ๐
@SillyPlantGirl interesting that youโve seen such good growth either the coarse pumice. I started using succulent mix for all my plants, with some exceptions ofc like Hoyas, a few years back upon the advice of a local nursery guy. Our humidity is high & cloud cover โ๏ธ often enough to actually hinder regular potting soil drying up sufficiently between waterings. Itโs worked out well so far.
@FitBrowallia oh Jonchel, of course you got plant mail! ๐. You are the queen of plant mail ๐ชด ๐ซ!! I LOVE that you try out a plant and if it doesnโt work out itโs off to the next๐. Iโve been getting better at moving on. Once it stops thriving or just plain croaks ๐ธ ๐ชฆ I toss it โป๏ธ or re-home ๐ก it!!๐๐ฎโ๐จ
@RefinedSandwort mine get tons of humidity right now. Theyโre in ziplock baggies that I leave partially open for fresh air circulation. So far no rot ๐ค
@SweetAzurebluet So good to see you!! Your moonshine ๐ ๐ชด looks as gorgeous as ever! Interesting youโre using FoxFarm. I used to use it but havenโt for a while. Maybe next potting Iโll give it another try ๐.
@SillyPlantGirl , my swiss cheese isnโt doing as well since I repotted it into a fine monstera mix and the new leaves are failing and Iโm losing a leaf at the bottom when itโs trying to put out new leaves. ๐ฉ Although, to be honest it may need to be upsized because the roots have gone crazy!
@MariansOasis @FitBrowallia @RefinedSandwort @SillyPlantGirl @SweetAzurebluet @planthoe40 Good morning everyone at #TheWateringHole ! Everyoneโs plants look great. Nice to see you Harriet! I use a mix similar to yours ๐ฅฐ Except I just use 1/3 coco coir (instead of the potting mix) 1/3 orchid bark and 1/3 perlite.
I recently bought 4 cubic feet of perlite for $37 (almost 120 quarts) ๐คฏ because i was tired of always buying smaller, and more expensive, bags. Well, Iโm not going to run out of perlite any time soon! ๐คช
For plants, weโve got my monstera crรจme brรปlรฉeโs new leaf (center), a dream wish list plant- philodendron dean McDowell, my billitiarโs new leaf, my lemon lime marantaโs new spot,, and my finally acquired dream wish list plant monstera albo bรฉbรฉ ๐ฅฐ

@DreamMachine ๐๐พ to you, my dear! Gorgeous Plant Oasis, that Monstera Crรจme Brulee is stunning and also one of my favorite desserts ๐ฎ! ๐ Congratulations on the newest ๐ on your Billitiar! ๐๐พ I have used Coco Coir itโs in the Mollyโs soil. I saw the perlite in that size on Amazon, and I was wondering was it worth it to buy it like thatโฆโฆ well you have answered my question! ๏ฟผ
@MariansOasis Good to hear from you too, and thanks much , my dear! โค๏ธ Yes, I switched over, about a year ago from Mollyโs to FoxFarm. The same with We the Wild to FoxFarm fertilizer.
@MariansOasis I do the same!
@MariansOasis oh MAN! Look at you go with not giving up on the SOH! You will get it this time, I feel it. So sorry youโre having a tough time with the thrips. My mini orchid is still going, but all the buds on one side fell off. ๐คทโโ๏ธ Still got the one side blooming, so I guess itโs not all bad. I feel for you on the moss.. just went through the sphagnum moss thing yesterday. Some of my newbies from the plant market came in moss (AMAZING roots, so I get why we use it) and I wanted to get the micans aurea repotted. That took forEVER (and a gummy) trying to figure out what was root and what was moss. ๐ Iโll need to do it with my Obliqua soon, but for now, heโs just chilling in the time-out box with my Azlanii. I see a new growth coming so that makes me feel better. @RefinedSandwort I hear you on the trellis situation. I tried those โtwigsโ grow poles for my monstera and that thing was hanging so far sideways. ๐ญ Iโm trying to trellis this scindapsus, but some day, Iโm going to be really mad at myself for this. lol. @FitBrowallia you better make room for next monthโs prizes!! Those are pretty though- canโt blame you! I just got rid of the esqueleto and my milk confetti to my barber to make room for my newbies. @DreamMachine yessss to wishlist plants!!! Congrats on the new albo!! Oh, speaking of favorites, Buffy is flowering but sad. ๐ Iโve tried adjusting light, adjusting humidity, less waterโฆ. Next stop, repot into a larger pot with fresh soil. ๐คทโโ๏ธ @planthoe40 Itโs time to try again!! You and Marian can raise yours together. ๐ Have little play dates and all.
@MariansOasis Yes thereโs a lot of plants out there that would love to be in our homes
@Jho beautiful plants and yes Iโm always ready for some newbies
@FitBrowallia I knew there was a a regular goldfish plant but I had never heard of a black goldfish plant before today. ๐ Thatโs so cool. Do I need it for the goth garden? ๐ค
@Jho dang, Iโm so sorry I just realized I never responded to your orchid question weeks ago!! ๐ฑ๐ฑ I got distracted and then it got lost in my notifications, my apologies. Itโs super common to have buds drop like that shortly after you acquire an orchid. Most likely due to the change in conditions. (Or theyโre too dry/wet/cold etc) Basically: environmental stress! Good news is with good care the flowers will come back. ๐บ
How are your roots doing? Did you repot? I know a lot of sources say not to, but I always just repot my orchids straight away. ๐คทโโ๏ธ I never know whatโs in the mix it came in (pathogens? Pests? Hidden root rot?) and I want to get them to what I know is a good mix asap. I also cut the flower spikes off, after taking a picture or two and cursing my overly-cautious nature, while crying and apologizing to the orchid. ๐ญ๐ (pests love flowers)
And aw, Buffy! ๐ฅบ Whatโs going on with her?

And hereโs a pic of the perlite I got. I thought it was going to be a little more coarse, with larger pieces, but looks to be pretty much the particle size of any perlite Iโve ever gotten ๐

@DreamMachine aw itโs ok. Greg notifications get wild sometimes! I had decided to stop fretting and just let her do her thang til the blooms are done. Maybe it would be a success, or maybe a learning experience. lol. She seems to be stabilizing after the move. I actually just gave her her second soak yesterday so roots are nice and green. Thereโs a couple black spots that worry me but not sure if itโs just dirt stuck between the root and the pot side. When I got her home, she immediately got a good neem bath because I noticed what looked like a previous mealy bug spot on the one leaf, but no signs of pests thus far and the newest little leaf is now almost full size. Will def need a repot after this bloom is done because the one root is coming out of the drainage hole. ๐ฑ I couldnโt snip the spike.. theyโre too pretty. Buffy is droopy, which research says is too much or too little water. I cut watering back and droopiness continued, so I thought maybe the bathroom gets too hot for her in the summer (it can get 80+ in there during the day). So I moved her out to the living room. Still droopy, but flowering. Finally, i pulled her out to check the roots and they seem fine, not smelly. Put her back and one leaf rose a little but it is still drooping. Going to observe for a little bit longer and then get into those roots for deeper inspection if nothing improves. Iโm thinking now maybe compacted soil because that root ball like quadrupled in size since fall. She was in a teeny tiny like 3โ nursery pot when I brought her home and falling sideways with a breeze. Now those roots are almost completely filling a 5โ pot that I had planned to pot her in. Up to a 6 I guess.
@SweetAzurebluet thank you. I've been wanting to switch up my fertilizer for my indoor plants. I was just on Amazon and seen the We the wild. I was reading the reviews. Noticed it has 82% out of 100% and I was going to come on here and see if anybody had heard of it and used it and here you are with your comment about it. I will be ordering some.
@DreamMachine your green prayer plant looks fabulous!! I want mine to look ๐ like that when it grows up!
@Jho your orchidโs roots look GREAT and so do her leaves ๐ Is your second photo the one with the concerning spots? If so, it looks like it could be the start of secondary roots that had nowhere to grow and perhaps got pancaked against the side of the pot ๐
or dirt ๐คทโโ๏ธ. But I would love to know when you do repot!
For Buffy; is her substrate still damp? Or is it dry? I have only seen mine droop due to underwatering, but thatโs because I am more likely to forget to water them in time ๐ฌ. How long was it taking in-between watering to dry out? If it was more than 2-3 weeks or so, then I would lean towards overwatering. For either situation I would hold off on repotting. Because theyโre so sensitive and have such tiny fibrous roots a repot might send her further into shock. Iโll share with you @SuperbRaspfern Shannonโs begonia recovery/care tips! โค๏ธโ๐ฉน (not all the tips are relevant here)

@planthoe40 hi ๐ I too used We the Wild Grow formula for a couple of years. Got okay growth but then it seemed to level off. So I tried Superthrive Foliage Pro. So far I like it. Itโs easy to mix and doesnโt make the soil so brown. Iโm pretty sure itโs worm castings, microorganisms
and recycled organic matter.
and recycled organic matter.
@Jho I know, right?! SOH hopefully will not get the better of me this time!๐.
I had my anthurium bakeri seedlings ๐ฑ on sphagnum and I coulda used a gummy getting those suckers out! ๐คช
I had my anthurium bakeri seedlings ๐ฑ on sphagnum and I coulda used a gummy getting those suckers out! ๐คช
@planthoe40 I also used We the Wild once. For me it was ok, but I didnโt notice any good growth! Then I realized the NPK is really low (0.17 - 0.14 - 0). Itโs more like an additive than an actual fertilizer. I now only use Superthrive Foliage pro, it has all the macro and micro nutrients and the NPK is 9-3-6 ๐
@RefinedSandwort thank you Joy!! He just flowered the other day ๐ฅน but ahhhhhhjh I was just trying to find the picture I swear I took but I mustโve not actually tapped the shutter button ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ Well, hopefully he continues flowering ๐คฃ๐ค๐ค๐ค
@DreamMachine thanks! Yeah, thatโs the spot Iโve been eyeballing on the orchid. I was more worried when the buds were dropping like flies but now weโve settled down some. For Buffy, thanks for those screenshots!! Iโm not seeing any black crispness, and leaves generally look rather good, so it seems good on that front. Thereโs one mark on a leaf I plugged into PictureThis that says itโs a water spot, but that doesnโt make sense because the leaves never get water on them. The soil is still a little soggy from last water on Monday, so Iโll keep letting her dry out and see. I actually let her go too dry when I first brought her home and had the most DRAMATIC wilt like you said yours doโฆ lol. I could never forget after that scare. While taking photos, I did notice the stem carrying the flowers (and a new baby shoot!) has lifted some more. Maybe I corrected what she was lacking and those older leaves are just too far gone. She has multiple growth points going and those cute little leaves grow up so fast. Iโll throw in some better pics so you can see what I mean. Older leaves are droop city but the newer ones seem less affected or rebounding. @MariansOasis omg I can imagine!!! ๐ตโ๐ซ
@MariansOasis @planthoe40 @DreamMachine I just switched to Superthrive from Foliage Focus! My wallet enjoys it already; I am anxious to see my plants do the same!
@planthoe40 try it out first, if you donโt see it doing anything for your plants, I see members on here, using the Superthrive Foilage Pro, which I havenโt used yet. But, that will be my next fertilizer after the FoxFarm Liquid Bloom! ๐ What I did like about We The Wild is the Enrich Powder, if you can, try that too. I believe it comes in a bundle!
@DreamMachine So are you happy with that size!? Wow, thatโs one big bag of perlite! ๐ I tell you, if you donโt go back and check to see what you have text, to the other person, you will definitely be sounding ๐คช! ๐
@Jho LOL, I knowwwww! The dramatic wilt ๐ญ๐ญ๐
I wonder if she just got a little too wet ๐ค but is already recovering because of that beautiful new leaf evidence you have there. Sometimes they can take a while to be done with their fit ๐ Do you have a pic of the โwater spot?โ Iโm not familiar with picture this, but they might have meant oedema? ๐ค When plants take up more water than they can transpire, cell walls can burst in areas of leaf, or stem?

@FitBrowallia that Arabian Jasmine is beautiful, and also whatโs the second plant?
@SillyPlantGirl Is that the name of the perlite!?
@FitBrowallia Is the first picture a โMother of a thousandโ!?
@SweetAzurebluet ๐๐๐
Itโs ginormous! I didnโt have a big enough container to put it all the perlite in, so the bag has been sitting in our front hall/entryway for several weeks now. Iโm sure the hubs was thrilled! ๐คช I finally used it down to only 80 quarts left, so now it all fits in my biggest clear bin ๐ ๐ฎโ๐จ

@DreamMachine PictureThis is a little app someone here suggested before where you can snap a picture of an ailing plant and get an AI diagnosis with treatment plan. Itโs *usually* pretty helpful. I just noticed the spot when I was taking the photo shoot. Iโve since plugged it into PictureThis twice more and itโs given me two more, different explanations. ๐ We are still safe from AI. Could be a oedema, but the bot def was telling me it was from water sitting on the leaf the first time. Here is as close as I could get my camera to focus.
@SweetAzurebluet Harriet! So happy to see you~Iโve missed you and your beautiful plants! Hope youโre well ๐ Hereโs a link to what I buy. https://a.co/d/09oQGVzF
@Jho yes
@DreamMachine Nadia Iโm loving your Hoyas
@Jho wow those roots look ๐ great
@Jho the color is wonderful wow
@SweetAzurebluet I use the enrich powder when I repot my plants
@Jho ah, thank you, that definitely looks like oedema to me! And that feels like the final puzzle piece, because before oedema happens, you can definitely experience droopy older leaves. They might be a little too full of water right meow. Do you have a fan anywhere or a spot with stable temps and good airflow? Will help her dry out a bit quicker.
@DreamMachine Nadia I just posted a pic of the perlite I get. Itโs huge lol but in case youโre interestedโฆ.like next year ๐คญ https://a.co/d/09y6eA3X
@SillyPlantGirl love your set up. Looks like a great place to have a cup of coffee and exhale
@FitBrowallia thank you much Jonchel! I may have gone a little overboard in my hoya buying over the last month. ๐ฌ Itโs like my version of Pokรฉmon. Gotta catch them all! ๐
Yay for your plant mail!! Is that a Hoya Bella back there?? ๐
Yay for your plant mail!! Is that a Hoya Bella back there?? ๐
@DreamMachine yes it is. The 1st one didnโt make it. You didnโt go overboard I did !! I went on a I want that and imma get it. Still have at least 15 more on the way. All my daughter does is shake her head and ask if Iโm happy. And ask not to take over her room.
@SillyPlantGirl oh thank you! LOL, Iโve ordered that before! ๐
@FitBrowallia did your first Bella drop leaves all over the place? I discovered sheโs one of the Hoyas that donโt EVER want to dry out. I routinely leave her sitting in a puddle and still end up watering her *at least* once a week (in a very small pot)
@SillyPlantGirl your back patio looks like paradise! ๐ฅฐ and WOWZA, look at your Boston fern hiding in the back ๐ฑ๐ฑ
@FitBrowallia yeah, I love it! ๐
@SillyPlantGirl Wow!!! Simply Stunning!! ๐คฉ
@DreamMachine thanks Nadia yes thatโs what happened. Iโm going to order a self watering container for her.
@FitBrowallia thank you Jonchel, Lucie and I come out every morning - she sits in the sun and I have my coffee and make plants to water or any other chore. The birds and Hummingbirds and Butterflies make it more special.
@FitBrowallia I know that right!! Beautiful Plant Oasis! Congratulations on the Plant Mail! ๐๐๐พ
@SillyPlantGirl Glad to hear from you too! ๐ Thanks much for the link! ๐ I screen shot it.
@DreamMachine she needs a repot. ๐ซฃ been in an 18 inch pot about 2 years. Half whiskey barrelโฆman my hubby not gonna be happy lol
@DreamMachine Wow, thatโs a lot, I already know, I donโt have nowhere to store all of that! ๐
@DreamMachine right meow?! ๐ธ ๐ yeah, the living room has a nice big Vornado air circulator (to survive these summers!) and sheโs on the threshold to the kitchen so just life gets the air moving a lot, but the bathroom where she was has no windows, so that definitely tracks. I moved out here maybe 2 weeks ago, so sheโll stay put for the summer. Thanks for sleuthing with me! @FitBrowallia the begonia colors? Ugh I love her so much. Vampire ๐ง Slayer. What is Olivia?? And that pink speckled one?
@SillyPlantGirl ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐คฉ Holy moly! Well, I donโt usually trim roots and put them back in their pot, but I might consider that there, when sheโs outgrowing half a WHISKEY BARREL!!! ๐คฏ๐คฏ๐๐
@SweetAzurebluet the trick is to only live in the present moment. Thatโs a hot tip right there. ๐๐คญ Who has time for thinking about practicalitiesโฆ.like where on earth will you store 120 quarts of perlite ๐คฃ๐คฃ
@SillyPlantGirl CONGRATULATIONS!! Omg I think I remember this from last year, yeah? Were you at the sink in the kitchen when you saw the flower bud last time? (I might be making stuff up)
@Jho always right meow, never right now ๐ and woohoo! Sleuthing is my favorite ๐ฅฐ Maybe when I grow up Iโll be a plant detective ๐ต๏ธ๐ Keep me posted on Buffy please ๐
This is the Worm Castings I use. I had the Tea first but omg it stinks sob bad, so I tried this. Itโs like soil but itโs moist. Every once in a while I get a worm, but itโs mostly compost from the worms? Hope I said that right. But- since adding it to my plants- great growth and flowers (on the ones that flower). https://a.co/d/00HHpIs8 if anyoneโs interested.
@DreamMachine whoa ๐ฒ thatโs a LOT of Perlite!! ๐คช
@SillyPlantGirl are those flower buds on your epiphyllum? Pic says euphorbia but it looks like epiphyllum to me. Love the way itโs growing! I have a bunch of cuttings a friend gave me last year. Had a few flowers so far but this one is so interesting! ๐ค
@MariansOasis Iโm hoping it lasts me longer than 6 months ๐ค๐คช
@MariansOasis I think thatโs @SillyPlantGirl โs dragon fruit!
@MariansOasis your epiphyllum flower is stunning, wow ๐คฉ Out of this world!
@SillyPlantGirl Okay, now that something, I havenโt heard of before. I will screenshot that too! Thanks for the info! ๐
@DreamMachine you are to funnyโฆ..but to tell you the truth, I would, especially since I donโt have room for it! ๐
@DreamMachine aaahhh. I wondered about that too!!๐
@SillyPlantGirl Congratulations! ๐๐พ On your almost newly sprouting flowers! ๐๐๐พ
@SillyPlantGirl I believe you have the biggest Boston Fern, I have ever seen! ๐๐คฉ๐ณ
@RefinedSandwort I donโt do well at all with Prayer Plants, Dieffenbachias, Alocasiasโฆโฆmust I go on!
@FitBrowallia Those are some pretty new arrivals you have there! You truly are the queen of plant mail!
@SweetAzurebluet My prayer plant was given to me by my step daughter. It started as a cutting from hers. It is on the struggle bus as Iโm trying to find the right spot and watering routine. Iโm so used to letting succulents get bone dry, that Iโm struggling with something that doesnโt need to dry out!
@SillyPlantGirl That fern is gorgeous!! Iโd have to get help to repot that.
@DreamMachine @MariansOasis Amazon got me with this little bottle. I looked it up on Google. Google says it's not a fertilizer it's an additive. I might just go back to Walmart and get some of that fish fertilizer.
@SillyPlantGirl wow beautiful. I can see it move in the breeze
@SillyPlantGirl oh my goodness itโs huge. How long have you had her?
@Jho Olivia is a Hoya Bella and the pink one is a snow & summer jasmine
@DreamMachine you are definitely correct here and now
@SillyPlantGirl can you sprinkle on top of the soil? I have some and forgot about it. I was mixing it when I repot
@MariansOasis that is Marian. So elegant and beautiful
@RefinedSandwort thanks Joy. I really need an intervention but it wonโt work. Iโm think in the winter I wonโt buy any new plants. Who am I kidding I will ๐คฃ๐คฃ
@RefinedSandwort oh well, I wish you luck, I had a Prayer Plant, long time ago, it didnโt take to well to acclimating so I havenโt had one since then. I would love to have a Calathea, but I already know, the end result! ๐
@planthoe40 @DreamMachine hmmm interesting because what I read was itโs a great fertilizer for foliage. Nadia Iโm sure has a lot more info on this.
@planthoe40 that IS a fertilizer ๐ did you type in โfoliage proโ at the end of your search? The numbers 9-3-6 is how you know. 9% Nitrogen, 3% Phosphorus 6% Potassium
@planthoe40 if you only typed in superthrive google probably thought you meant superthrive vitamin solution, which ISNโT a fertilizer and in my opinion is pretty much just the same as we the wild. Super thrive foliage pro is a fertilizer and one of the best ones
@HolyLacealoe hi Anna, Iโm so sorry for not saying anything sooner- I have a few questions, but donโt want to clog this post- can you start a post and tag me?
@SillyPlantGirl wow! That bloom is beautiful ๐คฉ!!
@Jho you can also use Google lens
@DreamMachine no I typed in everything it said on the bottle
@SillyPlantGirl thatโs AWESOME! I donโt know if I remember seeing that flower, because thatโs INCREDIBLE ๐ฑ But see, I have a selective memoryโฆI can remember facts, and things about plants, but I canโt remember what I did yesterday ๐๐
@planthoe40 welp, google was wrong in that instance. ๐คทโโ๏ธ It is a fertilizer. This what happens when I type it in ๐
@FitBrowallia are you talking about the worm castings? If so Yes! Itโs called top dressing and when you water (top) all the nutrients seep down. I do both when repot and just to give a little boost ๐
@DreamMachine Nadia can you use both?
@SillyPlantGirl thatโs beautiful
@SillyPlantGirl this post has made my plant regimen longer. I was missing a few steps
@FitBrowallia superthrive foliage pro AND we the wild? I have, when I was trying to use up the bottle of We the Wild, and noticed no ill effects. WtW is just pretty much expensive worm castings in liquid form, so I donโt think you can overdo it . ๐คทโโ๏ธ
You CAN overdo superthrive foliage pro as itโs a real fertilizer, so I always recommend with starting at a quarter dosage, for me, I start at 1/4tsp per gallon of water.

@FitBrowallia this was given to me last year on Motherโs Day- can you see the few Fern strands? It was tiny. So just over a year ago. I thought I killed it over the winter- inspiring I put it back outside, cut it down to te soil and bam!
@DreamMachine thank you Nadia. I need to rethink what Iโm doing. I thought WtW was fertilizer. So what youโre telling me is sprinkle worm castings in the soil when I pot my plants and put superthrive in my water when I water?
@SillyPlantGirl wow she gorgeous
@DreamMachine resurrecting this because I just saw a TikTok - did you know you can prop new orchids from the spent flower spike?? ๐ฑ Amazing.
@Jho hahaha, had to spin the price is right wheel to get all the way down here ๐
I have heard rumor that can be done. But Iโve never known someone to successfully do it. Apparently it takes a lonnnnnng time and doesnโt seem to have a good success rate, but Iโd say anything is worth a shot ๐
