My Preference & Why!

In my short experience as a serious Plant Daddy, the last couple of years , ive noticed some of us use Female, references when referring to our charges & some use Male. For myself, I refer to all my Plants as Female, (except the Cacti & SnakePlant) (idk they seem like guys), for the simple fact that, Flowers are so beautiful how can they not be anything other than female . ❤️ ( I dont assign pretty to men either, because lets face it we are Not). (For the most part).

Ha! I just name it whatever strikes me at the moment. I have same plants, FLF’s one is a girl’s name, the other a boy’s. Many are neither! Plus some don’t strike me as either feminine or masculine so they get a good old non binary name! And actually lately, because often when I’m watering I can’t recall the nickname, I’ve named it the plants name so Hoya mathilda is Mathilda, Hoya burtoniae is Burt, 😆 helps me locate them a lot faster 🙌
That’s actually so cute!! And I totally agree flowers are so beautiful how could they not be tied to the femininity of women?
I actually have the scientific name and my given name on all my Plants, although I do know all 30 of them from memory, and by name. Matilda is my Corn Plant, I named her from the Movie " The Professional " with Jean Reno, A young Natalie Portman. Because she was my first Plant to Start my new somewhat single life, and she was my first Plant! First Born 💜
@MariansOasis hahaha, I do exactly this Marian 😂 in regards to gender and naming style. I wait for that sudden inspiration! Hoyas just being their hoya name since I now have over 30 species of them alone, and more names would befuddle me. 😵‍💫There are a few with only accession numbers that are as of yet, unnamed. But I have unconsciously been calling the AH021 “Aha.”

I also tend to theme my genus’s… genuses? 🤔 My orchids all mostly have somewhat fruit names, based off the color of their blooms (which helps me remember which one is which when not in bloom) e.g. Clementine, Mulberry, etc.
