So the problem of the day is dormancy. The plants in the greenhouse are about to face Houston’s scorching summer. I’ve set up fans and shade for those that will be going dormant and allowing my winter dormant plants to enjoy the sunshine without drying up. When I water I need to know who’s who. So to save having to write on labels I decided to use a color scheme with yellow for summer dormant and light blue for winter. Oh and they asked me if I wanted to add something to my order. I ventured out this morning to inspect the plants before the sun becomes too intense and bright. I’m back inside now, but not before capturing a few photos. The greenhouse is incredibly humid this morning! The acclimating outdoor plants are looking remarkably better. Sharing my experiment to see if a succulent prop could survive in a hydroponic system. I put two sedum adolphi leaf props in rockwool as soon as they had some roots. One died, but this other one is doing great. I’m tempted to try an echeveria next. Thoughts? #SucculentSquad #SucculentLove #Hydroponics #Sedum #GoldenSedum #Echeveria

UPDATE My flowering young desert rose (Thar) has finally started to bloom, and after doing some research, I found that this little one might be an Adenium socotranum; which would explain why it looks so different from the rest of its seedmates. Honestly, I thought it was elongating despite being in full Florida sun 😅 (family photo below). This also means that there is a good chance that I wasn't ripped off and these little guys are in fact different species I just have to wait for another one to flower to be 100% sure. New trick: Turning a plastic pot to a faux terracotta one. To increase the airflow and reduce the humidity around your plant’s roots, use a welding stick (~$12) and punch holes in the botttom 1/3 of the pot. Make it decorative if you like, and no need to remove the plants or soil to do it. Don’t make your holes higher than the 1/3 mark as that may make the pot too dry in the root zone. You can also use a soldering iron to make holes in the bottom (~5) if your pot has no drainage. BTW This is my newest plant in its newest pot. I got this Jade plant recently and it came with one little String of Buttons also growing in the pot. I’m planning to repot it into a more permanent home, but curious if I should separate them or let them be BFF together forever? #SucculentLove #Crassula #StringOfButtons #Jade

My Oh Happy Plants soil came today! Now I have to figure out how much to mix with my bonsai Jack soil to get the right aeration ratios for my plants out in the greenhouse and inside the house.🤪 I’ve got such different conditions in these places and such a variety of plant species that it’s quite a learning experience. I may be obsessing too much but I’m having fun so who cares. #HappyPlants #SucculentSquad #SucculentLove #Succulents #TheWateringHole

We got our heat-reflective sun tarps up, so I’ve been moving things in and out of the garage all day. Accidentally left her out during a storm and thought she was done for bout 2 days later these 2 lil sprouts came outta the spherical one!! yay does anyone know if they buds on the larger one will eventually sprout or are they rotten? #HappyPlants #CactusClique #NewGrowth #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #SucculentLove
