I found some moving dots in the new growth on my Swiss Mint Monstera. I took care of them immediately and moved the plant to its own area. I saw another moving in the soil but lost it. I was over dropping off some caladiums to family and a few friends and just had to share how beautiful they have gotten. Three or four actually have flowers! Which is so exciting to me. My plants I was happily working on today. The blue pot Ocotillo, just sold, so he’ll be making a new home. It’s bittersweet, it’s a favorite of mine. My Kalanchos have gone wild. I’ve been doing some land mapping over the last week or two to get an idea of what it will look like when I finally get my apple orchard going with some really cool peach trees! So any fruit-growing people, please let me know any tips, tricks, or what you do to encourage the growth. I got a wild line and went maybe a little apple crazy. I don’t give you the list unless anyone wants to know; feel free to ask. Happy Monday! I purchased my White Queen Caladium as a tuber (photo attached). Therefore, I’ve had the pleasure of watching the growth completely from start to finish. I noticed a couple weeks ago that there was some growth that didn’t look familiar to me. Keep in mind this is my first caladium ever. I let the plant do its thing and I just watched. But every day I would look at the “weird” growth and think….. why the heck won’t this leaf unfurl. Until this morning. It dawned on me. Is it possible my Caladium is blooming? AND CLICK. I THINK THATS EXACTLY WHAT IS HAPPENING. Went exploring in the FL Panhandle to see #carnivorousplants ! These sites were by far the largest that I have ever been to. The #sarracenia #pitcherplants) sprawled as far as I could see at one of the sites in the Apalachicola National Forest! I primarily saw Sarracenia flava, or the yellow pitcher plant. More specifically lotsa Sarracenia flava var. rugelii & Sarracenia flava var. rubricorpora! I was absolutely delighted to have seen rubricorpora in the wild for the first time; the red of rubricorpora is just absolutely stunning. At one of the sites in Blackwater River State Forest I also saw Sarracenia leucophylla, or the white-topped pitcher plant, growing amongst the flava! And, of course, a whole lot of Sarracenia psittacina, or the parrot pitcher plant, growing underneath the tall sarrs! They can be very tricky to avoid stepping on because they grow in such numbers! One of the highlights for me, though, was finding Pinguicula planifolia! I cannot remember the common name of it right now, but its one of Florida's native butterworts .. And my personal favorite! So I have a beautiful zebrina alocasia in my kitchen, and she’s gone absolutely wild this summer. The smallest leaf is the oldest leaf, and the largest is the youngest. You can see her growth difference. I LOVE monosilicic acid; it works beautifully for alocasias. This particular one, I’ve grown from a corm and is a few years old now.
