How to fertilize Purple Pitcher Plant
Most potting soils come with ample nutrients which plants use to produce new growth.
By the time your plant has depleted the nutrients in its soil it’s likely grown enough to need a larger pot anyway.
To replenish this plant's nutrients, repot your Purple Pitcher Plant after it doubles in size or once a year—whichever comes first.

Just today this marked appeared on my plant, recently the sun has gotten stronger and it's getting more direct sunlight. Is it possible it's burnt eventhough it's in a plate that aleays has 2/3 cm of water? #PurplePitcherplant

Repotting #PurplePitcherplant I think it’s time to repot my guy since he has a root growing several inches down into his water reservoir. What are the rules of thumb for repotting sarracenia? How much does pot size matter? I was thinking a shallow pot that would then have a high-ish perched water table would be good, but the only one I currently have is much, much bigger than his current little 3-inch. I have no idea what kind of substrate I even need. Help? Could he share a pot with pings?

Pest identification?! Sorry for the bad pictures…plant has recently moved to porch. I noticed these tiny guys a few days ago, and when I sprayed w/ natural pesticide, a green bug (not pictured) came out, same shade of green as the plant. Looked sorta like it had wings?? I need advice - if these ARE a pest, I have to get rid of it asap because I have a pet reptile and getting an infestation would be harmful to her health.

I made a new friend today! Fancied a new carnivorous plant so I took a trip to the garden centre, everybody meet Hans! The label says he’s a Sarracenia 'Hans' but this cultivar isn’t on Greg. I’ll try to add it later because it’s not working right now. In the meantime, does anyone have any information on this cultivar? I can’t find much online other than it’s a hybrid but it’d be interesting to know what it’s a hybrid of. #PlantAddict #CarnivorousPlants #Sarracenia

Help! My pitcher plant is not looking so good and I don’t know what to do! #PurplePitcherplant

Ants living in the medium?! I watered my purple pitcher plant this morning and ants came rolling out of the pot as I filled the reservoir. We’ve gotten a lot of rain and I just cannot get rid of ants in my kitchen. What can I use to get rid of the ants that’s safe for a purple pitcher plants?

Pruning? This #PurplePitcherplant is my first #CarnivorousPlants and I’ve been slowly trying to learn more about its care. I noticed a few months ago it shot out one new (huge!) pitcher, while some of the others have been turning brown and shriveling up. So, I got some better/new soil and have been keeping it moist, and have noticed new growth—yay! But I’m not sure what I should do with the older pitchers that have browned and are shriveling up. Would love some advice and pointers! 😊

Pitchers getting crispy on the ends; dormancy? I’ve been wondering if it might be time to put my purple pitcher plant in the back porch for the winter. The tops of several pitchers are turning brown and crispy. What do you think? #CarnivorousPlants #CarnivorousClub #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy

New to CP; dormancy soon? #PurplePitcherplant I just got a little purple pitcher plant today, and now I see they should be going dormant. I think I am one of the lucky people and will be able to just put it in the unheated back porch (in central Indiana). It’s a very sunny porch; will that be ok? Also, how will I know it’s time to go on the porch? It isn’t looking bad yet, but then I just brought it home from the plant store.

#HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #PlantTherapy #CarnivorousPlants So this villain showed up today and I planted him in the sphagnum moss into the pot that was included. How does he look? I just had to have him and any advice would be greatly appreciated. Is sphagnum moss okay or should I have added some perlite with it?

Pitcher plants in general are fun to take care of, and they come with some unique looks! They love boggy soil so it acts as a plant I can use for my overwatering needs. When you learn of their growth cycle and how to prep for it, pitcher plants are easy to keep alive. Even if it looks like the plant is totally dead, by spring they have rapid new growth!
