About Waxplant
With over 500 species and even more cultivars, there's a Hoya out there for everyone! They're native to Southeast Asia and their common name, waxplant, refers to their thick, waxy leaves which help them retain water in the heat. They're excellent climbers and will take off if you give them a trellis to grow on. Their other-worldly, star-shaped flowers are often fragrant and come in brilliant shades of red, pink, yellow, and more!
Taxonomy

Finding light for Waxplant in your home

a window
Waxplant may have difficulty thriving, and will drop leaves 🍃, without ample sunlight.
Place it less than 3 feet from a south-facing window to maximize the potential for growth.
Select your region to see how the current weather in your area affects the placement of Waxplant in your home 🏡.
How to fertilize Waxplant

Most potting soils come with ample nutrients which plants use to produce new growth.
By the time your plant has depleted the nutrients in its soil it’s likely grown enough to need a larger pot anyway.
To replenish this plant's nutrients, repot your Waxplant after it doubles in size or once a year—whichever comes first.

I have had this plant for several years now and I don’t think it has put on more than maybe two leaves but it also hasn’t lost any and has never bloomed. Is that normal or do I need to do something to encourage more foliage and blooms? Thank you! #Hoya
-
How would you handle her? #Hoya , so she is now like 4 feet high and has one fairly long branch. I already trimmed the main like 3 times and hopping is possible to either bend it down if it keeps growing lengthwise or that is ok to keep clipping it. My question is about the branch. Should I add another bamboo and bring that branch down, is that even possible with this plants? Or how should I handle her? Just repotted to a bigger pot too.

Hoya leaves thinning I'm looking for help with a hoya carnosa. The leaves have become less waxy and thick. They're more papery and a couple have turned yellow. I'm not sure if it's related to sunlight, water, or something else. Any help is appreciated!

These were ID’d by the app as Hoyas Carnosa. I’ve had both for about 3-4 years with no blooms. The one in comments is a start from my aunt who has constant blooms. All her Hoyas are about 5 miles away in south facing indirect light. This one is on the east of my house. The one without the bows is on the west facing side. I’m new to fertilizer in the last few years 😔 but have used a 20-20-20 and toyed with less water, more water. They are in succulent soil with extra perlite but considering a medium change. Any and all ideas on how to bloom are welcome!! #hoya #HoyaHangout #HoyaHeads #PlantsMakePeopleHappy @MusicalRedmint @Hoyaobsessed

Hey friends! The plant identifier is claiming this a wax plant… Judging by photos specifically the leaf styles and length/direction of which the plant is growing, I don’t believe it to be a wax plant. I was wondering what y’all think? I’m new to plants and am excited to learn and grow (hehe)😊🌿 #help #NewPlantMom

omg #HoyaHeads #HoyaHangout check out this freaking weird leaf on my #HoyaCarnosa !! measuring from where it connects to the vine to the tip, it’s 4.5 inches and the widest point measures just over 1/2 an inch the leaf to the direct right of it is fairly average for the rest of the plant and it measures 2.75 in by .75 in it’s one of the newer leaves on the plant and grew from where i took a cutting once i think. thought it looked nUTS (and strangely like a H. wayetii??)

My Hoya is getting dry tips I used to think it was too much light/direct light but even with autumn comming and light dimming considerably it is behaving just like it did over summer. Anyone had this before? It also loses leafs every now and again

Oh my goodness. I was dusting my wax plant and accidentally pulled off a leaf. Help…what do I do? Should I say a few words and bury it in the yard? Can I do some magic and make it grow some other way? If I google it, it may tell me it’s dying. #Hoya

What other plant parents say

This beauty with her speckled leaves and majestic tendrils is an amazing plant to keep and love for years!Play around with light, fertiliser, humidity and watering to find the perfect combo for your Hoya, just sit back and watch her respond thankfully.
We went through some terrible fungus gnats when she was first given to me, however one hydrogen peroxide bath and lots of neem oil + a few sticky traps and she came out stronger and happier then ever. Best part is, hoya’s don’t mind the dry out in between to kill off those little pests!
