How to fertilize Mammillaria backebergiana
Most potting soils come with ample nutrients which plants use to produce new growth.
By the time your plant has depleted the nutrients in its soil it’s likely grown enough to need a larger pot anyway.
To replenish this plant's nutrients, repot your Mammillaria backebergiana after it doubles in size or once a year—whichever comes first.

Update on Mr. Peanut 🙈 #WhatTheSuccWednesday I experimented with training him and though I was able to get him arrow straight he started to curve again when the supports were removed. So, that answered that curiosity. I have decided to let him flop since that what he wants to do. Upgrading the lights did restore his, ahem, girth. As for my initial fear that he would look like a dumbbell, well… he certainly looks “some type of way.” 😳😂🐓 #HappyPlants #CactusClique @elisenavidad

UPDATE: AH-HA! I figured it out! I always suspected that rainbow pincushion was the wrong ID. Mr. Peanut is Mammillaria Backebergiana, and this is just what they do. Some people do use supports. Some people let them flop and lean. It is also possible to top-n-prop. I’m going to add some new photos with examples to a comment below and then take some time to figure out what I want to do next. Original Post Continues Below ———————————————————————- I have trained a lot of plants, but I have never even thought about let alone attempted training a cactus before. Can cacti even be trained? I can’t have Mr. Peanut out here looking like Mr. 🍆 Edit: I have found this awesome video that talks about leaning cacti. I actually like the lean on her last two and wish she had just left it as part of the character. But the answer I still haven’t found is whether a cactus will stiffen as it matures so that the supports can be removed like with a woody plant. If I can’t straighten him out I may either let him arc or try a graft. https:// #HappyPlants #CactusClique

Barely Squeezing in #WhatTheSuccWednesday Changed up this grouping and I think it’s so much more balanced. I’m a sucker for touches of pink and a good spiller. I swapped Hairy and Pablo. Now I need a home for Mr. Peanut and my newest succs. I’ve got my eye on some vintage McCoy pottery. 🤞 Last, my little haworthia prop broke in two. Now I have Selma and Patty.

Cactus question Happy Easter everyone. Does anyone know what is coming off the cactus? None of the other flowers looked like this, so obviously I'm clueless. Lol My hubby pointed out it's coming from one of the areas that's white. #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #GregGang #PlantAddict #CactusClique #NewPlantMom

Hi my cactus has the droopies. Anybody know why? I read it could be that I over watered and the soil was pretty wet so I held off on watering for a bit, going on 4 weeks now. But my guy hasn't seemed to perk up? #Cactus
