🌦️ Growing Outdoors
🌱 Propagation

Hoya carnosa 'Compacta' can be propagated by the stem method. To propagate:

  • Make a cut just above the node. The node is the break in the stem where the leaf emerges.
  • To get the cutting to root, you can either:
    • Place the cutting in water until roots emerge and are ~2” long and then transplant into well-draining soil, or
    • Place the cutting directly into well-draining soil and water when dry.

How to Propagate Hoya carnosa 'Compacta' →

🍂 Yellow Leaves

Yellow leaves aren’t always a reason to panic, and can be a normal part of a plant’s life cycle. Unless brand new leaves are turning yellow or all the leaves change color at once, it’s likely just your plant shedding old leaves.

Overwatering and root rot are the most likely cause of problems in Hoya carnosa 'Compacta', since they are very sensitive to wet soil. The leaves may also appear to be curling or drooping. Less often, yellow leaves are caused by underwatering, nutrient deficiencies, or pests.

Replace soggy soil with fresh, dry soil and download Greg to make sure your plant never gets overwatered again!

🧐 Troubleshooting

When troubleshooting a sad-looking houseplant, start by checking for signs of distress in its leaves, such as yellowing, browning, or drooping, which can indicate overwatering or nutrient deficiencies.

Inspect the soil moisture; too dry or too wet soil can cause problems.

Ensure the plant is getting the right amount of light, as too much or too little can stress it.

Finally, consider environmental factors like temperature and humidity, and adjust care routines accordingly to revive your plant.

I struggled with this one at first. I’ve stabilized it but I’m still trying to find the best spot for growth. Overall decent though and I’m hopeful it’ll make a comeback

This plant has increased in size since I brought it home, but seems to like taking its time. I gently moisten the soil when it gets very hot, as it’s been for the last two weeks or so, but otherwise leave it in its little greenhouse to enjoy the indirect sunlight.

Probably the easiest hoya to grow. Just watch out for pests, with these crinkles you’ll never get them out.

The hoya compacta is a very sturdy houseplant...BUT, I was dumb and left it in a shady part of my room... it didn’t kill it, but it definitely didn’t thrive. now it’s right in front of my window (north facing) and it’s looking a lot better. in general if you have a window facing south or west i would definitely recommend to keep your hoya in that room in a spot where it can get a moderate amount of light. 🌞🪴

Such a beauty but requires a sweet spot of care: not too much sun, not too little sun, not too little water, and definitely not too much water! Gets crinkly when unhappy.

Can’t seem to figure this plant out. The leaves became wrinkled after I watered it and I did not give a lot of water. Seems like when the dirt is dry it is happiest. I give up on this one. Not as cute as I thought it would be either.

When I first received this lady, she was pretty well kept. My mistake was having her near a lighted candle which shocked a stem and caused immediate shrinkage of leaves. After cutting the damage and re-locating closer to a east facing window, she’s doing great again. Even recovering halved leaves with new fiber growth. A slow grower without fertilizer, but could be faster in a perfect spot for indirect, bright light and a water time table. Do not recommend for house/apartment that tends to stay cooler.
