I am so Blessed πŸ€πŸ•ŠοΈ

After the thrips apocalypse taking over most of my plant collection and my fear of pesticides hurting my cats was forcing me to just discard and cry…. I was ready yesterday to buy a plant from a very trusted seller, to kind of give me little hope and something new to appreciate in all of this.

This lady is the sweetest soul and she works in a retirement home, when I tell you her cuttings smell like soap I mean it, she’s on the BALL.

She healed my Soul, with the plant I bought she gifted me so many different cuttings of different Hoya’s, my favourite plants to help start up my collections again! 😭😭😭 she gave me the 1-2 on isolation as well and gave me to much advice to prevention to move forward and help me rebuild without fear of future infestations.

Thank you so much, you don’t know how much you are my angel this week🀍 πŸ‘Ό

The lovely folks I met in the plant world really have brought my spirit up. πŸ™‚πŸͺ΄

Sorry you have to deal with thrips they’re the worst. I don’t mess around with thrips either they get the pesticide treatment (and live in the bathtub for a few weeks since I also have cats), chopping off all the leaves or just throwing them out if they’re not worth the hassle. I think thrips are the only thing I use pesticides on.

That’s lovely for you though, hope your new plants do well!
You can use insecticidal soap which is safe. Also add some Castile soap so new plants and cuttings can get washed with the soap. Peppermint is a good scent because it's a natural deterrent for pests.
And πŸ€¦πŸΏβ€β™€οΈ... CONGRATS on the #HoyaCuttings ! Rooting hoyas with a mix of perlite and fluval roots fast healthy roots. Make some drainage holes in cups (when watering, let water run through), put your cuttings in the fluval/perlite mix and even place all the cups in a clear container for instant humidity and you'll see resilts in no time.
@AwesomePlants Hi there thanks for the advice, am very well versed in propagation and I do have my own little tricks that might look different from others but they do work, depending on the cutting and where the nodes and leaves are will dictate the approach I decided to take as I do have great results rooting in water as well.

This post was more to share my progress and the gift I was given, I’m aware of the products you recommended but I am I Canada and they are not available and I refuse to use harsh chemicals near my cats. I have a different approach to quarantine my plants now that is safe for me and my cats. If I see a sign of pest I discard of the plant it’s not worth the danger these products can cause to my home on top of having limited availability in my country. But maybe this can help someone else.

Again I wasn’t asking question I shared a post regarding a gift sorry if that caused confusion! Have a good day πŸ˜‡
@AwesomePlants also peppermint is extremely toxic to cats and I won’t allows it in my home in any form. Especially not essential oils!
@Louisxvi 🫣 can you tell I'm not a pet owner or pet person (my plants are my pets)?! 🀣

Oh boy! Definitely didn't know that peppermint was toxic. I am very excited for you about your hoya cuttings!

Keep us posted on the prop progress!
