Hey plant lovers! Well it’s Sunday, my least favorite day cause it’s just Monday in disguise, but wait… did I say it’s, SUNDAY? WELCOME TO THE PLANT RANT THE PLACE TO RANT ABOUT PLANTS! Today’s topic: plants that confuse me or plant things that confuse me. Ok so alocasia, already confusing but some strange happened yesterday… so I was checking all my plants when I saw Sammy, my silver dragon alocasia who has been dormant SINCE SEPTEMBER. I looked around at him and dusted his leaves for any pests (just in case) and saw the back of his stem was chunky, curious I looked to see what it was, and guess what it was. A NEW LEAF! Ok so I’m very happy about this, but quick question? HOW DID HE GET THAT LEAF? No I don’t live in Australia I live in America, and it’s COLD in Pennsylvania my question is HOW did he do that? Ok so propagating, love it as a whole, but these days there’s so much propagating propaganda out on the web that say you NEED to do this or your cuttings will die. For example, rooting helpers are just useless. Do they speed up your growth? Maybe. Do they make the chance of a cutting to die off 0%? No! Because as long as you have aerial roots and part of a stem you’re good to go! You don’t need to waist your money on ‘rooting helpers’ you can just get the same thing with scissors and water. Next ficus trees. Why do they eternally grow upwards! Why do we have to keep training them to be bushy? I swear every time I think the ficus on YouTube videos will be as bushy in real life, cause I no they’ll not! You have to cut it, and then you have two plants you have to deal with! It also releases a sap called ficusin which if swallowed, can cause swelling of the mouth or almost be fatal! So don’t let your pets around your fiddle leaf fig, they could wreak havoc on their life! If you know philodendron, you know that they need a pole of some sorts, and don’t do that? They double down with fussiness. I can’t tell you HOW MANY CHOPSTICKS I’ve had to use for my philodendron, and I’m calling you out silver, over the summer she ripped herself out of her pot and we had to water prop her! It so far hasn’t been an easy task to do, but we had to push on with it! Silvers never the same, her leaves are curly and she hasn’t grown in 2 months. I’m pretty certain I might be done with having a plant that grows slower than a Hoya kerii. Hey plant lovers! I’ve been searching for the alocasia Amazonia ‘bambino’ but could not find a legitimate seller! So, I went to perch (my favorite store) and saw a alocasia Polly which are VERY close to bambino! Perch never disappoints me. Here are some of the things I saw as well and wanted! For 72 dollars I saw a queen anthurium (A. Waroquenum) that was HUGE! I would have impulsively bought it ONLY if I didn’t know the problems with this plant (humidity, temp, etc.) which I do not have the perfect conditions. Saw a ROF philo and actually a couple, which they are cool! I love Jess’s (perches owner) pothos wall which never disappoints, and saw a cebu blue pothos but since it’s that silvery blue color that so many of my plants have I didnt buy. Ficus selection today was good, saw tineke Audrey and fiddle leaf which was cool! I saw a cool A. Magnificum x silver blush in the humidity box which was AWESOME but was 50 dollars ☠️ in there saw a anthurium clarinervium which was 40 dollars not bad and a monstera Thai con which was 50, so not that bad. Saw a lot of singonuims and cathlea! I saw painted lady philodendron and tons more! #BurgundyRubberTree #Ficus #FicusGang #RubberTree had to do it. I had my baby outside prior to a storm and it was so windy it literally bent the straight stalk to the side and my already leaning one was even further down (see my oasis pics). Good morning #TheThread ! I am starting a new tag called #PlantRant but anyways WELCOME TO PLANT RANT THE PLACE TO RANT ABOUT PLANTS!!! TODAY WE ARE ADDRESSING EASY AS HECK PLANTS!!! WE HAVE 7!!! Obviously we got the SNAKE PLANT! I’ve only watered this guy 5 TIMES THIS YEARRRR!!!! Tho does not respond well to being overwatered!! if you are one of those plant parents that just overwater EVERYTHING be careful but honestly it’s not really that bad! Next we got the BRASIL! and maybe I’m a bit biased for gods sake my name IS PHILOOOOO. The philo brasil is variegated but don’t worry, it’s not like other plants that have to have sun to variegate! IM LOOKING AT YOU POTHOS! HAD TO PUT YOU RIGHT AGAINST THE WINDOW FOR ONE VARIGATED LEAF!!! This diva variegates no matter what. The only flaw with plant is a philo flaw in general which is they need so many pots. LIKE I NEED SO MANY POTS. It’s really amazing how many pots they need… Next is just ficus in general, GOOD BOY! NEVER BAD! I LOVE THE LEAVES! I HAVE THREE AND I LOVE THEM!!! I just got one… YESTERDAY! Maybe I’ll not be philo and be FICUS!!! Next is the ZZ PLANT MY WONDERFUL CC OMG BUTIFUL! AND I KNOW I SPELLED THAT WRONG THATS BEAcAUSE SHES SO BEAUTIFUL! LITERALLY INDESTRUCTIBLE ITS INCREDIBLE! Next we have the POTHOS! I was considering NOT putting this on here because it’s SO overused but I mean cmon, please. She is like literally not even A PLANT at this point. SO HUGE OMGGGG!!! Now I don’t have this yet, but I’m looking at it, the Hoya! LITERALLY DONT HAVE TO GIVE THIS PLANT A GALACTIC AMOUNT OF FERTILIZER JUST TP BLOOM!!! ALSO SUPER EASY JUST DO THE TACO TRICK! JUST BEND THE LEAF! If it folds, water time! But if it’s firm, NEGLECT TIME! THIS HOYA IS LITERALLY A GEN X KID OH MY GOSHHH!!! Next is the philodendron BILLAE! IM LOVING IT LIKE MICCY D’S!!! GOT IT 4 FREE AT MY FAVORITE STORE! SUPER SLOW GROWER, GO TO HER FRIEND, BRASIL, FOR A FAST ONE! BUT A NEW LEAFY IS DEFO A FLEX!
