Hello plant friends ✨🌿💛 A Thursday #TheWateringHole Appreciation Post for my dear Hoya sp. aff. burtoniae. I don’t care that you can get him anywhere, I think you SHOULD go get him. In fact, your task, should you choose to accept it, is to go out and find yourself one, after reading this post. He is my favorite. 🤫🤐 Hoya sp. aff. burtoniae is sold and often mislabeled under many names: -Hoya burtoniae (unless you’re ordering from a collector/reputable dealer who has a ‘true’ species burtoniae, most likely if you’re getting this plant in the commercial US market, it will be “Hoya sp. aff. burtoniae.” Which means an unnamed species that looks quite similar to the actual burtoniae.) -H. DS-70 -H. bilobata (real bilobata will have smooth leaves) -H. tsangii (same, true tsangii has smooth leaves) But my dear beloved sp. aff. burtoniae (and the true burtoniae) have leaves like velvet suede. A truly pet-able, emotional support hoya. Even my siblings (who are not as flora-philic as I am) dropped their mouths open in awe as they touched his leaves. His baby leaves, and he has MANY at all times, come out an adorable rose-mauve pink color. 🥹🥰💀 Right now he has two peduncles and I am waiting with bated breath to see them open. Supposed to be a butterscotch/caramel-y scent and I just cannot wait!! And, oh my gosh it’s the 27th! I kid you not, I just realized that today is his ONE year anniversary of coming to his forever home 😱😭🎂🥳🎊 He is The One who started me on my hoya journey, exactly one year ago today. 🥹 My first hoya and *still* my favorite, even though he’s now joined by 40 or so hoya siblings and relations. Gotta catch em all! And really, 40 out of 700 possible hoya species and cultivars is quite a low number. In the grand scheme of things. 🙂‍↕️ ⏱️Want to be notified of these posts when they come out? Monstera growing SO fast. The plant on the right is my mother plant. I propagated 3 cuttings about 2-3 months ago, and put them in soil on July 10th. Yesterday I had to repot them because the roots were growing out the top and bottom. A month?!?!? Had anyone else had props grow this fast? Hold the phone! Look at the amazing plants I saw around town last week! 🤯 🌱 FIRST I’ve seen huge Monsteras like this in greenhouses, but this was just in a store window 😮 And they told me that once the scales fall off the outside, they can eat the fruit! 🌱 NEXT is a cane Begonia in the same store…is that what my Begonias want to be??? We’re going to need a bigger house 😉 🌱AND LAST is one of many gorgeous Dog Tail Cacti I’ve seen around that evidently recently came from a local greenhouse, FOR $20?!? #TheWateringHole Good afternoon 🌞 and happy Monday to all my #TheWateringHole friends! After a couple of crazy busy weeks at work, followed by working some over the weekend, I’m enjoying a rare weekday off! Did a little watering before heading out for an out of town doctor appointment. After getting back and having a late Waffle House brunch, I’ve been finishing up the watering and doing a little oasis re-arranging to make more room. Pic one is on my way home from the our local Ingles grocery store with my new philodendron Birken I bought after encouragement from my plant 🪴 addiction enabler aka my husband. While looking 👀 the department manager came over to help. We talked plants for a few minutes and she let me know when they get deliveries 🚚 . Grocery stores have upped their plant 🪴 game in recent years. What’s your favorite grocery store plant source? Pic 2 is my new leaf 🍃 my starfish snake 🐍 plant is pushing out. It’s a slow grower so I get real excited to see new growth. I really want it to produce pups, but looks like I’ll have to keep waiting. pic 3 is my moonshine snake 🐍 plant It’s pup is really growing now! I need to do some repotting, but it’s way too hot 🥵 outside right now! Speaking of repotting, what soil or blends do you recommend for repotting pothos? I’m getting adds for Molly’s Aroid Mix in my Facebook feed? Anyone have experience with that product? So what’s happening at your oasis today? I got free tradescantia from Under the Sun 🤩🤩 And not just piddly little pieces, either—big LONG trailing pieces that had broken off of potted plants! Hello 👋 plant friends and #TheWateringHole crew! It’s Thursday afternoon and I’m taking a watering break 💦 🪴! I know we’re supposed to water early but that’s just not always possible 🤪 Besides I got distracted admiring each of the 🌱🌱🌱🌱 on the schedule 👀. This snake plant 🐍 🪴 is one of my earliest on Greg. I got him November 2021 and joined Greg January 2022 🗓️ 😮. Doesn’t seem that long ago!!! Anyway last year he gave me a scare 😬 tipping to one side, I checked his roots to discover there were hardly any!! I’d been gleefully bottom watering 🥣 💧 thinking the water was wicking up but that wasn’t it. His roots were dry, soil at bottom was wet, and I was faced with a dying plant. Down potted way down, probably a good 2” smaller pot, with fresh soil and stakes for support. Gave him a grow light. Here are his roots today 😊 🎉 🪴 So when did you join Greg? Anyway, hope everyone’s Monday is moving along swingingly, and it looks as if the rain 🌧️and the thunderstorms have moved on. I am not sure how often I stated categorically that I would stop getting more plants. So far I have not been successful! Although space is at a premium. I have this terrible habit of sleep-shopping. When I wake up in the middle of the night and can’t go back to sleep. I go on line and somehow find cacti that in my semi awake state I think need. And somehow I ended up with six, yes (6) new cacti in the last week. Today a super interesting specimen arrived. The Leuchtenbergia Principis, then there’s the Echinocereus Rigidissimus, then the more common Notocactus Ritterianus, the Euphorbia Obesa, and lastly there’s the Monadenium Ritchiei. And those are the latest additions to the oasis. I am hoping for a while. I still have to repot the Desert rose to a bigger pot, the roots are emerging from the drainage hole! But that‘ll have to wait until tomorrow. On that note I’m off to see if I can find something to eat. Eating is so overrated, I hate cooking but I can handle a quick salad!
