Good morning everyone I hope you and your plants are blooming well. It’s another hot one in Central Florida. I got up at sunrise and finished most of my gardening. I worked more on my butterfly garden, putting in more seeds, black-eyed Susans and purple cone flowers. In addition I planted the plants that I bought at the master gardeners nursery Saturday. 🌻🪻 This is a photo I took a giant swallowtail butterfly getting nectar from a Lantana plant. If you look closely, you can see his “tongue” in the flower. Hey Plantophyles! I’m back. Or I should say, I’m afoot. As my ankle is healing well, I can almost walk and I’m back home. I tried to keep up with the planty-gossip but I was knocked out with pain meds half the time and busy with PT and navigating the nursing facilities I was in the rest. That’s a long story in itself. My daughter did the best she could keeping my babies alive, but we lost about 20 or so from mostly not watering enough. I taught her the “kiss the stick” method of checking the dampness of the soil, but I think she over did on the caution I said to err on the dry side rather than overwatering. Anyhoo it is what it is. I’ve managed to plump up the wrinkled ones and dispose of the dead ones and now I’m looking forward to more shipments of new plants and reordered ones. Good morning everyone. I hope you and your plants are growing well.This is a Porter Weed that belongs to a friend. It’s beautiful. I have two, at my house , that I have not yet transplanted. This one is the best one I have seen. The Porter Weed is an excellent pollinator. Its attracts the Gulf Fritillary butterfly. I took the photo on the left, yesterday, with my Canon camera. I was repotting some plants, for her, this morning when I saw a Gulf Fritillary land on the Porter Weed. I took that photo with an iPhone. Mine got kind of rained out, lots of both rain, and thunderstorms! I have been trying to rearrange some of the cacti. But I‘m finding that the prime real estate on the top shelves of both the 3 tiered shelf and the taller 5 tiered shelf is running out. Since I had to move some of the large cacti into bigger pots. The first pic is the top shelf of the taller shelf, followed by the top shelf of the smaller one. My aim now is to stop getting more cacti and if that isn’t possible, only get slower growing smaller specimen. We‘ll see how that is going to turn out!??

Hello everyone, I posted this as, kind of a joke. 🃏I found this growing on my property. Here is some “beautiful” 🧐flowering stink vine 😷also known as a Chicken Excrement Plant 🐓💩 and Flatulent 💨Vine. It is growing in with the muscadine 🍇. I thought the flowers 🌻 looked cool so I took a photo. 📸 This stuff smells like a skunk 🦨 when it’s wet. Good morning everyone. Light drizzle this morning in West Central Florida. I’d like to know if anybody can help me identify this plant. There’s a huge wall of it that growing on my property. It is growing where a tree once fell. At first, I thought it was an invasive kudzu plant . However, on the Internet it shows that kutzu has smooth leaves. Obviously this plant does not. The plant identification apps I’ve tried call it muscadine grape. I have my doubts about that one. Also muscadine grape is a cultivated grape here in Florida. Hello 👋 plant friends and #TheWateringHole crew! It’s Thursday afternoon and I’m taking a watering break 💦 🪴! I know we’re supposed to water early but that’s just not always possible 🤪 Besides I got distracted admiring each of the 🌱🌱🌱🌱 on the schedule 👀. This snake plant 🐍 🪴 is one of my earliest on Greg. I got him November 2021 and joined Greg January 2022 🗓️ 😮. Doesn’t seem that long ago!!! Anyway last year he gave me a scare 😬 tipping to one side, I checked his roots to discover there were hardly any!! I’d been gleefully bottom watering 🥣 💧 thinking the water was wicking up but that wasn’t it. His roots were dry, soil at bottom was wet, and I was faced with a dying plant. Down potted way down, probably a good 2” smaller pot, with fresh soil and stakes for support. Gave him a grow light. Here are his roots today 😊 🎉 🪴 So when did you join Greg? I had a horrible night of no sleep, well 33 minutes! Anyway I have about 14 plants that need some attention/water. And since I was awake I got up to check on them. And you won’t believe what happened! I have this Philodendron Tortum which had lost all its leaves and I was ready to give upon it, but didn’t. Imagine my surprise when after a few waterings I saw a little green poking out of the top. Anyway so I looked at said philodendron and there was something blackish, and elongated on one of the tiny leaves. I, wondering what it could possibly be. (and not fully awake yet) nudged it a little, and it jumped up (scared the living daylights out of me) I wasn’t expecting anything to jump out, no matter how small. Turns out it was a baby lizard, who knew. And how did it get here?? Unfortunately because it jumped up, it had a rather awkward landing that didn’t go well. Since it landed on a yellow sticky trap. And there’s no way I can remove it from there without killing it. Sad to say, that it’s days are numbered. On a lighter note, The cacti I was expecting arrived last Friday . I managed to pot them up right away but then was too lazy to post them. So here they are. Nothing out of ordinary. They don’t really get interesting until they start blooming and I’m guessing that it won’t happen until next spring! Well that’s all for today from my oasis, hope I didn’t depress anyone too much with the sad lizard 🦎 story. (i still can’t figure out how he/she found his/her way all the way up on to the philodendron?) I hope you all have a great Thursday, how could you not? The weekend is right around the corner!
