PLANT GIFT ALERT 🔔 ❤️ !!! I shared in an earlier comment that my parents are staying with us as they had to evacuate due to a wildfire (thank you firefighters!) This morning my step mom came with me to one of our plant shops to pick up a Aglaonema Spring Snow they found for me (a gift for a friend). I was gushing over some amazing huge Hoyas (a Krinkle and a Linearis) … not in my budget. Good morning ☀️ plant family! Woke up to this newbie today! Planted 2 bare root day lilies a couple of months ago that I got on sale from rePotme. This is the first to bloom👍🙌. It’s labeled butterscotch ginger 🫠 Haven’t planted my own before, the day lilies in my yard were already here 🏡 planted by previous owner. I hope everyone is doing well and having a wonderful Sunday 🙏☺️ I love this time of year and although it's hot as Hades in Central Texas 🔥 Everything in the Oasis is green, lush and in full bloom. Here are a few plants that are showing out today. Not sure if they're going to be in correct order 🤷‍♀️ *Prince of Orange (the new leaves are almost neon!) * Aglaonema Chinese Evergreen - has a baby bloom 😍 looks like a tiny Peace Lily flower. * Monstera Deliciosa - I've got HOLES! 🕳️ Or Perforations if you're fancy 🎉 I just noticed the singular "hole" this morning on a different leaf. Bing Cherries Gone WILD! 🍒 A neighbor/friend has a big ole VERY happy cherry tree and they invited us to come pick. Herb’s delivery! I want a little herb wild. 🤪 🌿🌬️ She had some of my favorites in stock, so I had to get them. I wasn’t expecting them to arrive so quickly. So now I’m anxiously awaiting the other mix now. Ugh, this is why people say: plan ahead..🧐🤨. Ain’t foresight just beautiful? 🤦‍♀️😂😅 Live and learn, but please just live, you little herby dudes! Anyone else been getting their herb on? I gotta say, herbs are so much harder for me to do, but only in the winter. And all winter. 🥶 😅 It’s like cinnamon and lavender. #TheWateringHole Hello All, and Good Afternoon, I have been feeling rather lackadaisical these past few weeks. It seems that my “Get Up And Go”, got up and left? I keep telling myself that I should be doing this, that, and the other but I cannot seem to get anyof it done! Oh well, tomorrow is another day! I did manage to get the plants watered, those that needed watering. So today there are 20 more asking for attention/water. And I did find a new bloom on the Rebutia Albipilosa, did you know that cacti need much more water when they are blooming, or to get them to flower. But the line between a bit more water and overwatering is very fine! And the correct balance is crucial. On my walk yesterday I saw these blooming Frangipani, it had just stopped raining and the colors looked so intense I had to take pictures. Of course I couldn’t overlook the BoP. And I don’t know who that little yellow flower belongs to, but it looked so perfect with the water droplets I just had to post it. Please keep in mind that these aren’t mine and they live outside by the parking lot. It’s Monday at #TheWateringHole and I’m unmotivated… thinking I need a new hashtag like #UnMotivatedMonday or #MopeyMonday 😮‍💨 We’ve got #untidyTuesday so why not!?!🥴Typically I’ve got pics of pretty new things doin’ their thang, but lately not so much 🤷‍♀️ 🤪. I think the recent mealy bug/thrip discovery has left me feeling deflated. It won’t last but it’s a real thing for me, now & then. Figuring others probably feel this way too sometimes. It’s not always ☀️ 🌈 & 💐 people, right? 🤪 So rant over (I’m feeling better already 🫣) and here’s a pic of one of my plants that’s got his #UnMotivatedMonday going on too! Syngoniums were OG plants for me, 💚 them! Then slowly they all turned into long stringy, pathetic vines. I got rid of all but this bitty Panda. We both have #MopeyMonday. I need motivation. She never gets long enough to chop & prop. She did pop a new leaf up at the soil line so I’m hopeful there🤞. Anything going on in your oasis that’s got you feeling frustrated or defeated? Good morning Wednesday #TheWateringHole 🫶🌿🌤️ How is everyone doing in their neck of the woods? I, like quite a number of #greggers , have some pests in my indoor collection. Broad mites. (Booo hiss!!) They are minuscule, to a lot of people they are microscopic, 1/4 of a millimeter 🤏 small , but I can see them. They look like little dust specks moving around without magnification. They are notoriously hard to contain because of their size. Not only can they come in on a plant, they are so small they can float on a breeze through a window screen. 🦋🐝 How did I find them? I had a few very strange new leaves on two hoyas. They curled in on themselves, lost their shiny luster, appeared grey, and fell off (with my tweezer into a baggie) at a mere touch. I shall post those leaves. You can treat with neem, although it is a lot of labor involved, so this time and with the knowledgeable advice of @MusicalRedmint Susann, I am going PREDATORY MITES. This website DMV Beneficials is amazing. https:// They are a US-based service that offers free consultations to figure out what you’re dealing with and what would be the best predatory bug to help. If you have a pest situation and are feeling a little overwhelmed, reach out to them, they help people all over the states get connected with suppliers of good bugs. They also keep your budget in mind. And it seems like prices are not as bad as they used to be! I may be able to contain my pest issue for less than $50 😮‍💨😮‍💨. And if you are in another country, I highly encourage you to look around for beneficial suppliers near you 🦋🐞 And if you’re in Oregon or Washington, here is the supplier I will most likely be going with. You can check out their prices, only about $1 per sachet! https:// The mites I’m selecting are also microscopic, so you don’t have to see them in your house if that freaks you out. I got sweet pea flowers; I love the smell of sweet pea flowers. While they are super toxic to our furry friends, my dogs and cats have shown zero interest. Thank goodness! 😅 We now have sweet pea photos! Anyone growing sweet peas or anything else that smells so yummy and delicious? 😋 Ps- I’m so anxious today 😬 I’m supposed to have my soil delivery and my last thing I need for my water before I water my plants tonight. #TheWateringHole Hello everyone! Hope y’all had a happy 4th of July! It was pretty boring at our house. We did have a coffee/frappacino date and then had grilled hamburgers and hotdogs. I was just happy to be off work for the weekend. In plant news, I finally got around to repotting my moonshine snake plant, as well as doing a bunch of watering. My hubby just finished watering his hostas and the outdoor flowers. It’s blazing hot outside. I’ve included pics of our July 4th decoration (other than our American flag which stays out year round), my moonshine snake plant in its new digs, and my hubby’s hosta he bought a few weeks ago when we bought our outdoor flowers. FUN FACT! 🌸 So many people mispronounce the names of plants (they can be hard to say sometimes)! Here are some that even you *thought* you were saying correctly! • Peony: PEE-uh-nee • Chrysanthemum: kruh-san-thuh-muhm • Dahlia: day-lee-uh • Iris: ai-ruhs • Poinsettia: poyn-seh-tee-uh • Monstera Deliciosa: mon-STAIR-uh del-liss-sea-OH-suh • Pilea pepperomioides: pie-LEE-uh pep-per-row-me-OY-dees • Dieffenbachia: diff-en-BACK-key-ah 🌸 Some of these have been mispronounced missing syllables or with completely different sounds. #TheWateringHole Good Morning, to all around the watering hole. I hope everyone has had a gentle start into the new Week and your Monday is progressing smoothly! Since there are only 8 plants vying for water and or attention, I am curious about something that I have been wondering about for sometime now. If you are buying a new plant, a plant that is completely foreign to you, and you know nothing about it. What do you do? Do you go down the proverbial rabbit hole, like I do and try to find out as much as you can about the plant? Or do you just post a question on the App here hoping someone has the answers for you? I often find if I do the research it sticks with me and I can remember it down the line! But again that doesn’t always work that way, more times than not I‘ll go back again and again to look up the same info. Some brain fart just keeps blocking something I desperately am trying to remember. Old age or lack of concentration?? Well, that’s enough of that!
