How to fertilize Baby's Tears

Most potting soils come with ample nutrients which plants use to produce new growth.
By the time your plant has depleted the nutrients in its soil it’s likely grown enough to need a larger pot anyway.
To replenish this plant's nutrients, repot your Baby's Tears after it doubles in size or once a year—whichever comes first.

Super Fast rooting? After just three days my Angel's Tears clippings already have roots. I know nothing about this plant, is this usual? Either way, if your planting skills need a confidence boost, Angel's Tears may just help you out. 🌷🙏 Love and plant success to you all. #happyplants #plantsmakepeoplehappy #crowsfollowmeirl 20231126.1821

Sprouting! New plant momma here. I am new to Greg and the plant community. Happy there is a #freshleaffriday! I am seeing some action on my Baby's Tears plant from a bald spot she had after I had to cut burnt leaves 🍃 can't wait to see her patch full again! The other side of her has a happy stem stretching up to soak up the sun 🌞

Why is my Baby’s tears becoming leggy, brownish and red? My baby’s tears vines/stems are becoming leggy and turning brownish and red. I untangled it a little when I first adopted her. She is near a south facing window but she is kind of in the side so not directly facing sun? I have a self watering globe in it so the soil always stays wet. I have added some pics for reference. The cover photo is the pic of when I first adopted this baby. Please help with what’s happening to my baby plant. Should I change the spot of the plant? . #NewPlants #NewPlantMom #BabysTears #help #helpneeded #HangingPlants

Hi baby tears fam, I just got this lovely baby tear plant from the nursery. Wondering as the soil requires to be moist, does it like a self watering globe to keep moisture level high? What are your thoughts in thriving it? #selfwateringplanter #BabysTears

Fertilize notification Greg app is telling me I need to fertilize. It tells me how much to fertilize but not what to fertilize with. How can I determine the correct fertilizer for my plant? This one is my BabysTears but I have several other species that I’m being told to fertilize as well.

💦 Water Needs
Baby's Tears is sensitive to dry soil and should be watered frequently. Use our water calculator to personalize watering recommendations to your environment or download Greg for more advanced recommendations for all of your plants.
☀️ Sunlight Needs
Baby's Tears can tolerate being far from a window and light source. Place it less than 6 feet from a south-facing window to ensure it receives enough light to survive 💪. Select your region to see how the current weather in your area affects the placement in your home 🏡.
🐶 🐈 👶 Toxicity
Baby's Tears is not known to cause harm to humans or pets. Regardless, if you, a family member, a cat, or dog has ingested any plant material, please consult a doctor or a veterinarian.
💨 Humidity
Baby's Tears doesn’t require additional humidity. Plants absorb most water through their root system rather than their leaves, so the best way to provide humidity for your plants is through watering the soil.
🪴 Soil
Baby's Tears does best in well-draining soil. A good soil will contain lots of organic matter such as coco coir as well as perlite or vermiculite to help with drainage. Adding a handful of perlite to regular store-bought potting soil should do the trick!
💩 Fertilizer
Baby's Tears should be repotted after it doubles in size or once a year, whichever comes first. Fresh potting soil has all the nutrients your plant needs, so as long as it’s refreshed yearly, you shouldn’t need to use fertilizer. Remember, plants get their energy from sunlight, not fertilizer!
🌎 Native Region
Baby's Tears is native to northern Mediterranean.
🌸 Flowers
Yes, you may see your Baby's Tears bloom with the right amount of sunlight and water.
⬆️ ⬇️ Growth Pattern
Baby's Tears grows along the ground and sends out shoots which will spread across the soil.
🌦️ Growing Outdoors
USDA Hardiness Zone
Baby's Tears can be grown outdoors in USDA Hardiness Zones 9a-11b. Find your local hardiness zone here.
🌱 Propagation
Baby's Tears can be propagated by the stem method. To propagate:
- Make a cut just above the node. The node is the break in the stem where the leaf emerges.
- To get the cutting to root, you can either:
- Place the cutting in water until roots emerge and are ~2” long and then transplant into well-draining soil, or
- Place the cutting directly into well-draining soil and water when dry.
🍂 Yellow Leaves
Yellow leaves aren’t always a reason to panic, and can be a normal part of a plant’s life cycle. Unless brand new leaves are turning yellow or all the leaves change color at once, it’s likely just your plant retiring old leaves.
If it seems like there’s a problem, the most likely cause of yellow leaves in Baby's Tears is underwatering. The leaves may also appear to be curling or drooping. Yellow leaves can less often be caused by overwatering, nutrient deficiencies, or pests.
Give your plant a good drink and it should perk back up and download Greg to make sure your plant never goes thirsty again!
🧐 Troubleshooting
When troubleshooting a sad-looking houseplant, start by checking for signs of distress in its leaves, such as yellowing, browning, or drooping, which can indicate overwatering or nutrient deficiencies.
Inspect the soil moisture; too dry or too wet soil can cause problems.
Ensure the plant is getting the right amount of light, as too much or too little can stress it.
Finally, consider environmental factors like temperature and humidity, and adjust care routines accordingly to revive your plant.
