Alocasia 'Rugosa'
About Alocasia 'Rugosa'
Alocasias, commonly known as Elephant Ears, are some of the most common houseplants although their leaves can reach enormous sizes when grown outdoors! 🐘 They typically only support a few leaves at a time (more, when they get more sun!) so don't be concerned if you see an old leaf begin to retire after a new one emerges. They grow out of underground corms which are similar to bulbs, so next time you repot keep an eye out for baby Alocasias! They contain calcium oxalate crystals so be sure to keep them out of reach if you have children or pets! ⚠️

Finding light for Alocasia 'Rugosa' in your home
Alocasia 'Rugosa' may have difficulty thriving, and will drop leaves 🍃, without ample sunlight.
Place it less than 3 feet from a south-facing window to maximize the potential for growth.
Select your region to see how the current weather in your area affects the placement of Alocasia 'Rugosa' in your home 🏡.
How to fertilize Alocasia 'Rugosa'
Most potting soils come with ample nutrients which plants use to produce new growth.
By the time your plant has depleted the nutrients in its soil it’s likely grown enough to need a larger pot anyway.
To replenish this plant's nutrients, repot your Alocasia 'Rugosa' after it doubles in size or once a year—whichever comes first.

I occasionally see my pothos have guttation but I wasn’t aware Alocasia do that too. How neat! #Guttation #HappyPlants #AlocasiaAddicts #Alocasia #PlantAddict #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantTherapy

Black Spots on Stalks? #Taro I attempted to treat this poor dude for black spot using Neem oil, but it doesn’t seem to have made any difference. I repotted into new all purpose soil, perlite, and orchid bark. Clooney here is a rescue from certain disposal, so I’m willing to try any suggestions!

Brown spots on Alocasia 'Rugosa' leaves? I see many people saying the brown spots could be due to overwatering or underwater. Her Greg plant profile is up-to-date. Please share how you think I can address her brown spot problem; thank you. #alocasia

Plant is not happy, can someone explain why? I’ve moved her in different spots of the house and she just is not happy. She has enough drainage and enough light (about 8ish hours of grow light). I am super worried about her. Thank you!

Rhizome with no roots but some nodes I just got this gifted to me from a friend. I have it sitting in water as of right now but I’m worried because I have heard they are pretty tough to take care of. There are nodes but no roots. What is the best way to grow roots and keep this guy healthy?? Please help. Also there is a bit of pinkish- purple hue near the stem is that normal?

When do I repot? So i have had this Alocasia Melo propagating for about 2 weeks now and i started to get roots!! About how long do i have to wait to repot it into soil? And what kind of “soil” should i use? Should i transfer it into something semi-hydro like leca or pon? Also there’s about 1 inch of root growth as of right now. Any tips and tricks will be appreciated!! I am determined to keep this plant alive and happy:)

I’m dying to do a “Caption This” with Crichton’s new leaf, but it’s fairly self explanatory. 🤦🏼♀️🤣 The second picture is his other new one beginning its journey to glory, and the third is from Freya, my Frydek. 🥰 Enjoy the opportunity for giggles, and happy Friday, everyone! #FreshLeafFriday #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #NewGrowth #FridayFunsies #AlocasiaAddicts #StingrayAlocasia #AlocasiaFrydek #CaptionThisPicture #HisLobster

Droopy leaves, help? Hey y’all, happy Saturday! Just had a quick question about my #ZebraElephantEar I’ve had her for about two months now and so far she’s been doing great. Took her home, quarantined, watered and tested out different lighting: all the usual. Since then she’s popped out with two new leaves and they’re doing very well. The issue I’ve noticed in the last couple of days is three of the stems with smaller leaves have started to droop and some have yellow spots. This is completely unusual. I have the plant on a watering schedule, I’ve repotted once (terracotta w/ drainage), only fertilized once since purchasing, and nothing else has changed besides the new leaves. She sits below a south facing window that gets direct sunlight for most of the afternoon. Where she sits the direct sunlight is only for about three hours but the indirect sunlight is still prevalent. I have a humidifier and I’m not worried about overwatering. What should I do? This is one of my favorites and I don’t want to lose her. #HappyPlants #help #PlantAddict #NewGrowth #NewPlantMom #help
