Well, what can I say? I ran out of spots today in my overflow containers, so when my impulse Japanese strawberries came 🍓, I’m so excited, you guys! My Japanese strawberries 🍓 are Momo Ichigo; Kaorino; Akihime; Japanese Angel strawberries. 🍓 So this was the solution to my problem. 🤦‍♀️🤣 My dogs don’t use this old pool anymore. So I drilled holes, filled it, and made it into a hidden strawberry garden in my backyard. 🤣🐝🌸🩵. I’m going to just copy and paste some quick Google definitions on them if anyone is interested. Momo Ichigo (Peach Strawberry - 桃薫): Native to Tokushima, these rare berries have a distinct, subtle peach aroma and flavor. They are highly juicy, mildly sweet, and not overly sugary, delivering an incredibly refreshing profile. Kaorino (かおり野): Translated as "scented field," this award-winning variety from Mie Prefecture is famous for its vibrant floral fragrance and honey-like sweetness. It is exceptionally low in acidity with a long conical shape and firm, juicy flesh. Akihime (あきひめ): Developed in Shizuoka, this is one of Japan’s most popular varieties. It is distinguished by its elongated shape and melt-in-your-mouth soft flesh. It is wonderfully sweet with minimal tartness, making it a favorite for both fresh eating and "all-you-can-eat" farm tours in Japan. Angel Strawberries (天使のいちご - Tenshi no Ichigo / Awayuki): These luxurious, pale white to blush-pink strawberries have red seeds. Despite their unripe appearance, they are remarkably sweet, soft, and have a unique flavor profile that sets them apart from traditional red berries. I’ve been repotting for the last few days, and I’ll tell you I’m exhausted 🥱. Also trying to keep up with a ten-year-old; even with my coffee, it wasn’t enough. 🤣🤦‍♀️ Jeez; no, I’m just feeling old. 😅 But we are here for the plants, so here are a few I’ve been working on. And one my niece is taking home; I’m accumulating it before she takes it. My adorable little niece was over today helping me plant and clean up part of the greenhouse, and she brought some of her plants she needed to transplant. She was so excited to bring them over, and she reminded me I promised her she could have one of my caramel marble philodendrons, so she picked out which one, and I’m now acclimating to house conditions. So when they get back from a family vacation to Greenland (lucky ducks!), she’ll take it home. She told me today when she grows up she wants to be a landscape architect 🤣🫶🏻☺️🌸🐝 I love this girl. I’m sure it will all change when she’s ten, but oh my goodness, I love her. Hello everyone, I hope you are well. Here is my first batch of habanero peppers. Often what I do is I dry them in the oven. Grind them up. This time I think I’m gonna add a little red curry to them. Then put them then put them in a shaker. Sometimes I grill them with olive oil and a little salt. The newest Hoyas arrived today, along with my replacement for an orange tree that had to be replaced from bad shipping as before. They kept begging me to leave Mom, and have their own place, so I put all 3 sisters Together ❤️ and relented. I normally don’t do a veggie garden at my house and generally stick to growing fruits and herbs, but this year I decided to reuse some retired recycled old bins. I lost like half the screws, and they look utterly terrible. Luckily, no one can see them in my backyard behind my old shed (built in 1947) and my greenhouse. I was worried about finding a way to keep my blackberries away from tomatoes and/or my raspberries away from them as well. Being in the nightshade family, they will not grow well together. 😬🤦‍♀️ With that being said, I’m so excited, we are already getting peppers, we have the cutest tiny orange tomatoes. With a bell pepper 🫑 that looks like the cutest little bum cheeks you wanna pinch! 🤏 or a giant green tooth. 🦷 😂 But the patch next to them, as some needs I needed to plant up.. so we’ll see, purple broccoli, artichokes, and some crock neck lumpy squash (my favorite thing to fry up in summer). Alright, I completely caved and finally got two little cuties that I’m really hoping to just as healthy as the photos! @Jho was kind enough to show me this seller a while back, and I decided alright let’s do it! First is a variegated billietiae, and second is a caramel marble fire tiger 🐅 Then I’m so excited to find a variegated piper nigrum! (Aka a black peppercorn plant!) I have a regular peppercorn vine that is climbing with my vanilla, so I’m excited to add this to my other variegated vanilla and now variegated peppercorn! Yay! Worked all day yesterday on my plants. I was not planning on doing a garden vegetable; I usually just help my mom do hers. But this year we have my brother and my sister plus their families back living in the area. So we needed to step up the veggies this year. I’ve NEVER grown broccoli, artichokes, or carrots from seeds, but what the Hades! I got the seeds; let’s see what we can do. Finding somewhere I can plant my tomatoes without affecting my berries. 🤔 So I settled on a kinda forgotten part of my backyard. It’s right between an old cinder block 🧱 shed and the greenhouse. I figured my vents open to the veggies this way so it makes them get a little more humidity as well as it stays warm back there year-round and blocks them from heavy winds.
