Say hello to Sekka! He's a petrified cypress, or hinoki cypress. (Full botanical name: Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Sekka') Easily the best part of Sekka are those dense, scale-like leaves! I've never seen a wild one, only as bonsai. Its branches tend to grow long and straight, so frequent trimming is a must. Growth has been great lately, all that bright light green foliage is fresh growth from being repotted earlier this year. However, airflow inside wasn't ideal, and as you can see, the inner leaves died off. I cleaned those out and gave it a light trim. Good airflow is a vital part of keeping any tree healthy, big or small; it even helps keep pesky bugs away (in theory!). I’ve got several more of these in various styles, that also need trimming and cleaning up. How about your trees and plants, how’s the growth? One of my favourite bonsai is starting to flower and fruit. Look how tiny these are! 🥰 This is a Hong Kong kumquat, golden bean kumquat or the Japanese kinzu. 🍊 The fruits grow about the size of a finger nail and have virtually zero pulp, just seeds and won't fully ripen until late January. #Bonsai #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #NewGrowth #OutdoorGrowing

My new Jujube GA 866 came in today all the way from Mendocino, California. Almost full coast to coast. Just freshly potted it into a 9” pot I had, to establish a better root system. Plan to plant it in the ground but going to keep it potted until it gets better established & can have a little time to train it & wire it up to get some movement in the trunk. I didn’t want to go too big with the pot because it doesn’t like much water and thought too big of a pot during winter could be bad. I definitely needs to stretch some roots out in the next couple of months. Came in a 4 inch pot, fully rooted decent amount 4-6” l. Had to untangle them a good bit. Showing some growth & progress on my very 1st official #Bonsai. A little more then a year of training & growing to form this from when I 1st got this plant, This small tree looks so old to me that bark is just ancient. Thinking of taking it out of the pot & replanting it into a much larger container to get some thicker growth. Thoughts on overall look, shape, opinions or suggestions/tips On my Bonsai would be appreciated. I’m new to the style and growth habit even though I have been putting trees in pots for years. A lot of you have as well and you have official bonsai trees because definition is a tree in a pot so all of you who have a tree in a pot should get a little bit more into this style of growing. Just my opinion Show off your #bonsai trees today just curious what everyone has as far as natures manipulated artwork. I have a serious question for the true bonsai enthusiast about planting in ground to grow trunk mass.. question is let’s say I have a small unused pool or very large capacity container like an old freezer. Would that be considered large enough of a container to get the trunk to thicken on trees faster or would it actually need to be in the ground ? Because my thoughts fight with each other and says it will never be able to get the nutrients from a confined space, even though the other side of my mind says the roots won’t ever get that big enough to get all the nutrients from a larger space. I know there is no official right answer but just wondering what kind of experience we have out there 🫶🏽 feed the soil microbes 🦠 right? Hello friends! 🤗 I had to pick up these two beauties on my last stop at Home Depot! 🌱💚 I’ve recently become really interested in bonsai, and I had no idea you could create bonsai from such a variety of plants! I’m hoping to blend these two together and experiment with creating a beautiful bonsai from them. I honestly don’t know exactly how it will turn out, but I’m excited to see where this little project takes me! 🌳✨ If any of you have experience growing or caring for bonsai, I would absolutely appreciate any feedback, advice, or tips you’re willing to share.
