About Calathea Illustris
Many of the houseplants we used to know as Calatheas now belong to the genus Goeppertia (say that three times fast). These plants have delightfully patterned leaves that come in all sorts of colors and shapes! Commonly known as prayer plants, the leaves of some species fold up at night through a process called nyctinasty meaning night movement! 😴

Goeppertia roseopicta 'Illustris'

Finding light for Calathea Illustris in your home
a window
Calathea Illustris may have difficulty thriving, and will drop leaves 🍃, without ample sunlight.
Place it less than 3 feet from a south-facing window to maximize the potential for growth.
Select your region to see how the current weather in your area affects the placement of Calathea Illustris in your home 🏡.
How to fertilize Calathea Illustris
Most potting soils come with ample nutrients which plants use to produce new growth.
By the time your plant has depleted the nutrients in its soil it’s likely grown enough to need a larger pot anyway.
To replenish this plant's nutrients, repot your Calathea Illustris after it doubles in size or once a year—whichever comes first.

Hello you all🤗 #thewateringhole Just announcing that Millie is flowering again (last time was September), with 4 flower-stalks😱 They are not much, and not really noticable under her gorgeous foliage (you do have to search for them😅). But considering these are supposed to be rare bloomers it is in truth a win💪 She is now 4 years old and mother of 6 and grandmother of 2😆👵 #plantsmakepeoplehappy #happyplants #floweringplants #flowerpower #plantaddict #calatheacrew #calatheacathedralwindows #goeppertia

What's wrong with my plant? I found her on the street last year and she did not look good back then but she keeps getting worse and her new leaf also starts to get brown. What can I do to save her? Does she need more/less sun? Right now she's next to the window where she also receives some direkt sun in the morning.

Orbifolia yellowing My beloved Orbifolia is getting yellowing on its leaves. I just gave him a grow light, and he’s in a self watering terracotta pot. Any advice?

New plant baby 🥹 Thanks #GregPlantShop for this ABSOLUELY STUNNING calathea! I’ve been too afraid to get one but always wanted one. I’m a sucker for the green-red plants lol. I felt ready to accept the challenge of having a calathea and my gosh I probably won’t, but, I hope I can keep her as stunning as she arrived, I thought it was a fake plant at first! 😂 I know these guys can be totally befuddling but if you have any solid tips, let me know!! 😍 She’s in our kitchen/dining room window for now! #Calathea #PrayerPlant #NewPlantMom

Repotting an elderly plant y/n Hi folks; my Cloris has been going along in this glazed-clay pot for 4-5 years now. She's not visibly suffering, but she's not visibly thriving either; I suspect the soil is *extremely* depleted at this point despite the usual watering / misting / fertilization routine. Normally I wouldn't hesitate to repot, but we're talking a seven-year-old plant of a species that isn't *that* long-lived. Thoughts? Is it worth the potential system shock to get her into a fresh setup, or best to stick with routine / pallative care from here on out?
