It's that time again!! Time for a #GregGivesBack #Giveaway brought to you by the #GregGivesBackGiveaway squad!

This month, share a plant or five that you WISH you could grow in your growing zone, but can't.

I have ventured out of my comfort zone (and growing #zone8) and traveled to Southern California in growing #zone10!

I have seen HUGE #agave and MASSIVE #opuntia (that's my daughter in the picture!) Mine are so small and I reckon I'll never see them get big. ):

There are #BirdOfParadise plants in bloom and #TreeAeonium that are so lush and large!

Alas, there's no place like home and I'll enjoy my tiny plants and just have good memories of the plants living their best lives #outside in zone 10. ☺️

I'm in Zone 7b so I'm using many grow lights for my new indoor collection. I'd love to grow agave outdoor but can't in North Central GA.
Here are my #Opuntia and my #BirdOfParadise

Grow, plants, GROW!!
Here's my little #Agave and some #TreeAeonium (I have small ones - no pictures on my phone, though).
Weeping willows! I live in Texas, and you technically can grow weeping willows trees here, but the hot, dry summers make it a lot of work to keep one alive 😒😩

They’re just sooo beautiful though πŸ₯Ί
@sarah10orio

An early good morning to everyone!
I would love to grow the wonderfully fragrant Magnolia.
Living here in the Northeast makes that impossible... 😢
@Jho @Dreammachine @SuperbRaspfern @Shells_Garden @debbiedo @MamaLinne @MariansOasis @princesspitstop @Malagueña #thewateringhole 😘

I wish that I could remember more peeps!

Dear Sarah...why don't you also post the tags?
Is that possible?
@itslillykate I LOVE weeping willows! My favorite is the curly willow, have you seen one of those?

I have a huge willow in my front yard and it has been through so many storms and it's sorta gnarly -- which makes it PERFECT!
You should come visit me and I can take you to a FOREST of 100 year old magnolias! They are amazing and the BEST climbing trees EVER! @CutePolypremum, maybe when someone else wakes up, she can tag that list of folks! I have my day full of things I have to attend before I get to go home tomorrow!! YAY!! I'm going home!!
@sarah10orio

OMG 😲 😱 😲 😱
I would die and go to heaven to be amidst a forest of 100 year-old magnolias!

Where is this?

No worries...I'll ask a couple of our peeps to see if they can post the tags.

And...welcome home!!!!
There's no place like home!
@debbiedo @DreamMachine @MariansOasis @RefinedSandwort

Good morning gals!
You are probably crazy busy but would it be possible to post Greg's tags so lots of folks could enter this awesome giveaway πŸ˜€?

Thanking you in advance and have a swell weekend 😊
@CutePolypremum It's a little park called Chickasaw Gardens (actually a subdivision) in Memphis, TN. My Dad used to go there when he was a boy and climb the trees. He took us as kids and I've taken my kids and grandkids. β™₯️
@sarah10orio

It's awesome that you're keeping the tradition alive πŸ€—
I grew up in the Midwest with Weeping Willows, Lilac bushes, a Magnolia Tree and Peonies. I miss them all living in the AZ desert.
@debbiedo

Thanks so much Debbie! 😍
@CutePolypremum You bet Joanie!!
Thanks, @debbiedo! You're the best!
@itslillykate my neighbor has a huge one! I’ll have to take a pic
I can't enter the giveaway, but still wanted to share ☺️
I live in SF in zone 10b, so lucky for me I can keep any succulent outside year round. Like @sarah10orio was saying about aeoniums in SoCal, they also get HUGE here! Many neighborhoods throughout the city have little succulent gardens every few yards, so I've done my fair share of prop-lifting lol 😜 The plants/trees I miss are those native to the temperate deciduous forests in western NC where I'm originally from. I especially miss the rhododendrons & laurels blooming every spring. I also miss birch trees. On hikes, I'd always grab a birch twig, scrape off the bark with my fingernail, and chew on the wintergreen-flavored wood. I also miss the smell of kudzu (never thought I'd say that!). Some of those certainly *could* grow here, some might even thrive. But to paraphrase Jeff Goldblum in Jurassic Park: just because you could, doesn't mean you should πŸ˜‚
@sarah10orio I think it would be fun to have a few lemon and orange trees right off the front of the house, but we are in zone 6 or 7 and I can't grow themπŸ₯΄πŸ˜‰
Ugh, SO MANY. 😭 I think I’m in zone 8b?
Though it’s pretty nice to see some other comments here and be reminded that there’s things that grow here people wish they could grow, too. πŸ’š
But that being said UGH I wish I could just have a backyard full of giant tropical leaves drooping over the patio..
-any citrus tree
-elephant ears
-giant philodendrons and pothos I could grow naturally up some palm trees..

So many cool native plants here in WA, but I still am so jealous of my relatives giant alocasias like this one, just growing great outside no problem 🀣😭
All these responses are making me feel better about what I CAN grow here. Living here is Zone 7b however I do have an orange tree @debbiedo I do have it in a big pot and bring it in the garage during the winter. Not sure how long it will last but she gave me 1 orange last year!! Hoping to get some this year!!
@sarah10orio @CutePolypremum @debbiedo @princesspitstop @MamaLinne @MariansOasis @MusicalRedmint

I will sit out this giveaway, but I must say, I can grow lots of things in my strangely Mediterranean climate in the wilamette valley in OR, but when I saw the eucalyptus trees in @stephongreg β€˜s San Fran I gasped 😲😱. I am zone 9a, but with *very* wet autumns, winters, and springs. I cannot grow eucalyptus. 😭😭 They shoot up really fast due to all the moisture, but their root systems are tiny, so they collapse and don’t last very long, if they ever get established.

(Ps looove birch trees. πŸ₯° We had two growing outside my window when I was a kid, but unfortunately did not make it in a giant windstorm when I was a teen. But the birch bark cherry tree that my parents planted me when I was born is still going strong πŸ’ͺ )
I’m from New Mexico but live in Colorado, so I really miss cacti! Would love an entire outdoor cactus garden.
@Stephazar that is HUGE!
I wish I could grow a Camellia shrub. They are so cute and dainty!!
When I visited DC, I fell in love with the Southern Magnolia planted outside of the White House. It was beautiful. Unfortunately not the kind of Magnolia that will thrive in Minnesota :(
Lilacs! I grew up in the Lilac Village (Lombard, IL) but have lived in central Florida for nearly 20 years. I miss the smell of the Lilacs and I so wish I could grow them here.
@becksoasis13 my mother has one of those! They are beautiful!!
@debbiedo thanks for including me! 😊 #GregGang One of plants I’d love to be able to grow most is a lilac bush. I grew up in Rhode Island. We had a huge lilac bush out in our back yard. I loved the smell of them throughout our house. They still remind me of my mother and the reason I love plants. She had fresh lilacs on our table every fall growing up. That was zone6-7 and I now live in Southern CA in zone 9a-9b, they would never survive here. My other wish would be a Christmas Spruce Tree which grows in zone 2-6. I would love it but it’s definitely not happening here.πŸ˜”πŸŒ² #greggivesback #GregGivesBackGiveaway
@stephongreg I just took this picture yesterday! This is the one I could reach and there were ones even bigger than this!!
English lavender would be the one plant I need great help with. Every time I try, it dies quickly. Zone 5
What I wouldn’t give to be able to grow #Bougainvillea like I had in Southern California.
Plumeria, pineapple, and natal lily 😍 zone 7 here πŸ˜•
#GregGivesBackGiveaway @sarah10orio I just checked on which Zone Iβ€˜m in and St.Petersburg, FL is in 10a and 10b , considered a subtropical climate. And yes I would love to grow some Palm trees. I have a couple not very big. But I also don’t have an outdoor area where I could grow them. Bird of Paradise is another plant I would grow outside if I had the space. Since I cannot get my indoor growing BoP to bloom indoors. That said I’m going to stick with what works best for me indoors, Cacti 🌡!! #TheWateringHole
Hey, @BayLaurel! I have a few plumeria in big pots that I haul indoors in the winter! They'll never get HUGE because of the lack of space in pots, but I love mine!
Shea trees. Idk what zone I’m in maybe 8a to 7b? But ik fs they can’t grow here so yeah that’s sad
@sarah10orio yep, that looks familiar! I've been helping a lady with her backyard succulent garden, and she has several enormous black rose and garnet aeoniums. They're in dormancy right now, they'll get even bigger in the fall! πŸ˜›
#greggang πŸ˜›Does a tree count? I would love to start growing a cherry tree! The pinks and reds are so beautiful 😍❀️ but my yard isn't big enough, and my neighbors would start screaming at me because I would get little leaves in their pool πŸ₯² idk where my zone is but in nj
SWEET CHERRY TREES!! In my zone (5), we only get the tart cherry trees which are great but I love sweet cherries 😭
I’d also love to have massive succulents outdoors just chilling in my sandy lawn but alas, it snows here so much in good β€˜ol Iowa. (I still love the Midwest, I would never move away, I love my weeping willows too much).
Banana tree and Napenthese
#GregGivesBackGiveaway Banana trees and Napenthese
@izzyandsugar look into stonecrop and similar! You might be able to keep those!!!!
Really? I'll look into it!
@Boymom-plantmom thanks!! They look so beautiful 😍 I'm going to see where I can get them and hope I can!!
I just saw this, so can’t be in the drawing, but want to share that I have always loved palm trees and am in awe of them whenever I am privileged to see one. Of course, they won’t grow in Ohio, but if they did they would be all around my house and throughout the yard! Just as I wrote this I was privileged to hear a woodpecker working on a tree, something I rarely hear but enjoy tremendously, so I have been richly compensated; I can’t complain.
@Jujube COOL!! I'm gonna go look for one!!
--- official cut off ---
Ya gal is beat!! Travel is rough. I'm going to get to the winner right after dinner!!
@sarah10orio Hope your dinner is tasty πŸ˜‹
@Forbes57 peonies are my favorite flowers
Y'all- I just got a call from our state and they told me to go pick up and amazing young lady from the hospital who needs a loving home!!

It has been a WONDERFULLY BUSY DAY and I'm in the middle of her final feeding.

Please excuse my tardiness and I will be sure to post the winner tomorrow!!
#BetterLateThanNever
@tnydncr89 my sister lives in Spring hill!!
I’m in growing zone 6b so I sadly cannot grow sensitive plants outdoors but I would love to. I also really wish I could grow monsteras outside but at last, no.
@sarah10orio I worked in my friend's garden again yesterday, and this time I snapped some pics of her aeoniums. Some have been growing in her backyard for almost 30 years 😳 Behind the cluster of aeonium in the second pic you can see part of the yucca plants she transplanted in the 80s. They, along with most plants in the backyard, started out as houseplants 😍
@stephongreg dude! Those look JUST AS BIG as the ones I saw!! Amazing!!
https://greg.app/post/i03cb/betterlatethannever-thank-you-for-your-patience-with-me-while-my-family-and-i-start-this-new

I added everyone after the "cut off" as well. 😁
