Hello everyone, I posted this as, kind of a joke. 🃏I found this growing on my property. Here is some “beautiful” 🧐flowering stink vine 😷also known as a Chicken Excrement Plant 🐓💩 and Flatulent 💨Vine. It is growing in with the muscadine 🍇. I thought the flowers 🌻 looked cool so I took a photo. 📸 This stuff smells like a skunk 🦨 when it’s wet. Good morning everyone. Light drizzle this morning in West Central Florida. I’d like to know if anybody can help me identify this plant. There’s a huge wall of it that growing on my property. It is growing where a tree once fell. At first, I thought it was an invasive kudzu plant . However, on the Internet it shows that kutzu has smooth leaves. Obviously this plant does not. The plant identification apps I’ve tried call it muscadine grape. I have my doubts about that one. Also muscadine grape is a cultivated grape here in Florida. Hello 👋 plant friends and #TheWateringHole crew! It’s Thursday afternoon and I’m taking a watering break 💦 🪴! I know we’re supposed to water early but that’s just not always possible 🤪 Besides I got distracted admiring each of the 🌱🌱🌱🌱 on the schedule 👀. This snake plant 🐍 🪴 is one of my earliest on Greg. I got him November 2021 and joined Greg January 2022 🗓️ 😮. Doesn’t seem that long ago!!! Anyway last year he gave me a scare 😬 tipping to one side, I checked his roots to discover there were hardly any!! I’d been gleefully bottom watering 🥣 💧 thinking the water was wicking up but that wasn’t it. His roots were dry, soil at bottom was wet, and I was faced with a dying plant. Down potted way down, probably a good 2” smaller pot, with fresh soil and stakes for support. Gave him a grow light. Here are his roots today 😊 🎉 🪴 So when did you join Greg? Hello everyone, I hope you are well. The big reason why I don’t post any photos of my indoor plants is because I don’t have any plants indoors. I am in growing zone 9B. So I post photos of my outdoor plant activities including many photos I have taken while hiking and mountain biking. I have a particular fascination with pollinator plants and cypress trees. I had a horrible night of no sleep, well 33 minutes! Anyway I have about 14 plants that need some attention/water. And since I was awake I got up to check on them. And you won’t believe what happened! I have this Philodendron Tortum which had lost all its leaves and I was ready to give upon it, but didn’t. Imagine my surprise when after a few waterings I saw a little green poking out of the top. Anyway so I looked at said philodendron and there was something blackish, and elongated on one of the tiny leaves. I, wondering what it could possibly be. (and not fully awake yet) nudged it a little, and it jumped up (scared the living daylights out of me) I wasn’t expecting anything to jump out, no matter how small. Turns out it was a baby lizard, who knew. And how did it get here?? Unfortunately because it jumped up, it had a rather awkward landing that didn’t go well. Since it landed on a yellow sticky trap. And there’s no way I can remove it from there without killing it. Sad to say, that it’s days are numbered. On a lighter note, The cacti I was expecting arrived last Friday . I managed to pot them up right away but then was too lazy to post them. So here they are. Nothing out of ordinary. They don’t really get interesting until they start blooming and I’m guessing that it won’t happen until next spring! Well that’s all for today from my oasis, hope I didn’t depress anyone too much with the sad lizard 🦎 story. (i still can’t figure out how he/she found his/her way all the way up on to the philodendron?) I hope you all have a great Thursday, how could you not? The weekend is right around the corner! Good morning everyone. Here’s a photo of my impending butterfly garden. It’s all native Florida plants. The plants in the foreground are plants I bought at the local Master Garden nursery. (tickseed, white and pink milkweed, blanket flowers, porter weed, chaste trees, and Florida paintbrush.) Towards the back of the photo are seeds that I put in a week ago. #TheWateringHole Good afternoon 🌞 and happy Monday to all my #TheWateringHole friends! After a couple of crazy busy weeks at work, followed by working some over the weekend, I’m enjoying a rare weekday off! Did a little watering before heading out for an out of town doctor appointment. After getting back and having a late Waffle House brunch, I’ve been finishing up the watering and doing a little oasis re-arranging to make more room. Pic one is on my way home from the our local Ingles grocery store with my new philodendron Birken I bought after encouragement from my plant 🪴 addiction enabler aka my husband. While looking 👀 the department manager came over to help. We talked plants for a few minutes and she let me know when they get deliveries 🚚 . Grocery stores have upped their plant 🪴 game in recent years. What’s your favorite grocery store plant source? Pic 2 is my new leaf 🍃 my starfish snake 🐍 plant is pushing out. It’s a slow grower so I get real excited to see new growth. I really want it to produce pups, but looks like I’ll have to keep waiting. pic 3 is my moonshine snake 🐍 plant It’s pup is really growing now! I need to do some repotting, but it’s way too hot 🥵 outside right now! Speaking of repotting, what soil or blends do you recommend for repotting pothos? I’m getting adds for Molly’s Aroid Mix in my Facebook feed? Anyone have experience with that product? So what’s happening at your oasis today? Hello everyone here is a little morning blog from rural Florida. Yesterday I received a package of 119,000 seeds of Florida native flowering plants. In addition tomorrow I have 5000 Blue Sage Seeds arriving 🪻🪴 🌼🌸. 🦋🐝🦜🧑‍🌾. Some of the seeds I plan on planting in my immediate front yard. I would rather see flowering plants than weeds and grass. After that another, big, bird feeder and I brought a hummingbird feeder at Lowes. Lately I have been seeing Hummingbirds in my front yard. At first I thought they were insects. In rural Florida we,often, have flying insects as big as Hummingbirds. After watching I realized what I was seeing. Not a “dive bomber” bug but a Hummingbird 😲🤩 Wow they are cool to watch. I thought I might, as well feed them too. I am turning my place into a haven of resources for birds, bees and butterflies. All my best always. Good morning everyone. I hope all is well with your family and your adopted plant family. Here is another photo I took yesterday, just outside, of the master gardeners’s nursery. This is a swallowtail butterfly on an aster plant. There are over 25 species of swallowtail butterflies in Florida and this is one I am not familiar with. I think this is a Spicebush Swallowtail. This is a Blue Spire Sage. This was at the Master gardeners nursery this morning. This plant had literally dozens of big bumblebees on it while what a great pollinator. Hey guys! Many of you know about my obsession with Tradescantia. I'm especially fond of the zebrina species, and have been gradually collecting them in hopes to one day have all 23 (yep, there are 23 different zebrina cultivars!). My most recent acquisition is the newest official zebrina cultivar called 'MaeVerde'. The lady who named it and got it registered also happens to run my favorite Etsy shop, and I got lucky and snagged the very first one she put up for sale! Hello everyone, I posted this as, kind of a joke. 🃏I found this growing on my property. Here is some “beautiful” 🧐flowering stink vine 😷also known as a Chicken Excrement Plant 🐓💩 and Flatulent 💨Vine. It is growing in with the muscadine 🍇. I thought the flowers 🌻 looked cool so I took a photo. 📸 This stuff smells like a skunk 🦨 when it’s wet. Good morning everyone. Light drizzle this morning in West Central Florida. I’d like to know if anybody can help me identify this plant. There’s a huge wall of it that growing on my property. It is growing where a tree once fell. At first, I thought it was an invasive kudzu plant . However, on the Internet it shows that kutzu has smooth leaves. Obviously this plant does not. The plant identification apps I’ve tried call it muscadine grape. I have my doubts about that one. Also muscadine grape is a cultivated grape here in Florida. Hello 👋 plant friends and #TheWateringHole crew! It’s Thursday afternoon and I’m taking a watering break 💦 🪴! I know we’re supposed to water early but that’s just not always possible 🤪 Besides I got distracted admiring each of the 🌱🌱🌱🌱 on the schedule 👀. This snake plant 🐍 🪴 is one of my earliest on Greg. I got him November 2021 and joined Greg January 2022 🗓️ 😮. Doesn’t seem that long ago!!! Anyway last year he gave me a scare 😬 tipping to one side, I checked his roots to discover there were hardly any!! I’d been gleefully bottom watering 🥣 💧 thinking the water was wicking up but that wasn’t it. His roots were dry, soil at bottom was wet, and I was faced with a dying plant. Down potted way down, probably a good 2” smaller pot, with fresh soil and stakes for support. Gave him a grow light. Here are his roots today 😊 🎉 🪴 So when did you join Greg? I had a horrible night of no sleep, well 33 minutes! Anyway I have about 14 plants that need some attention/water. And since I was awake I got up to check on them. And you won’t believe what happened! I have this Philodendron Tortum which had lost all its leaves and I was ready to give upon it, but didn’t. Imagine my surprise when after a few waterings I saw a little green poking out of the top. Anyway so I looked at said philodendron and there was something blackish, and elongated on one of the tiny leaves. I, wondering what it could possibly be. (and not fully awake yet) nudged it a little, and it jumped up (scared the living daylights out of me) I wasn’t expecting anything to jump out, no matter how small. Turns out it was a baby lizard, who knew. And how did it get here?? Unfortunately because it jumped up, it had a rather awkward landing that didn’t go well. Since it landed on a yellow sticky trap. And there’s no way I can remove it from there without killing it. Sad to say, that it’s days are numbered. On a lighter note, The cacti I was expecting arrived last Friday . I managed to pot them up right away but then was too lazy to post them. So here they are. Nothing out of ordinary. They don’t really get interesting until they start blooming and I’m guessing that it won’t happen until next spring! Well that’s all for today from my oasis, hope I didn’t depress anyone too much with the sad lizard 🦎 story. (i still can’t figure out how he/she found his/her way all the way up on to the philodendron?) I hope you all have a great Thursday, how could you not? The weekend is right around the corner! #TheWateringHole Good afternoon 🌞 and happy Monday to all my #TheWateringHole friends! After a couple of crazy busy weeks at work, followed by working some over the weekend, I’m enjoying a rare weekday off! Did a little watering before heading out for an out of town doctor appointment. After getting back and having a late Waffle House brunch, I’ve been finishing up the watering and doing a little oasis re-arranging to make more room. Pic one is on my way home from the our local Ingles grocery store with my new philodendron Birken I bought after encouragement from my plant 🪴 addiction enabler aka my husband. While looking 👀 the department manager came over to help. We talked plants for a few minutes and she let me know when they get deliveries 🚚 . Grocery stores have upped their plant 🪴 game in recent years. What’s your favorite grocery store plant source? Pic 2 is my new leaf 🍃 my starfish snake 🐍 plant is pushing out. It’s a slow grower so I get real excited to see new growth. I really want it to produce pups, but looks like I’ll have to keep waiting. pic 3 is my moonshine snake 🐍 plant It’s pup is really growing now! I need to do some repotting, but it’s way too hot 🥵 outside right now! Speaking of repotting, what soil or blends do you recommend for repotting pothos? I’m getting adds for Molly’s Aroid Mix in my Facebook feed? Anyone have experience with that product? So what’s happening at your oasis today? Hello everyone here is a little morning blog from rural Florida. Yesterday I received a package of 119,000 seeds of Florida native flowering plants. In addition tomorrow I have 5000 Blue Sage Seeds arriving 🪻🪴 🌼🌸. 🦋🐝🦜🧑‍🌾. Some of the seeds I plan on planting in my immediate front yard. I would rather see flowering plants than weeds and grass. After that another, big, bird feeder and I brought a hummingbird feeder at Lowes. Lately I have been seeing Hummingbirds in my front yard. At first I thought they were insects. In rural Florida we,often, have flying insects as big as Hummingbirds. After watching I realized what I was seeing. Not a “dive bomber” bug but a Hummingbird 😲🤩 Wow they are cool to watch. I thought I might, as well feed them too. I am turning my place into a haven of resources for birds, bees and butterflies. All my best always. This is a swallowtail butterfly on an aster plant. There are over 25 species of swallowtail butterflies in Florida and this is one I am not familiar with. I think this is a Spicebush Swallowtail. This is a Blue Spire Sage. This was at the Master gardeners nursery this morning. This plant had literally dozens of big bumblebees on it while what a great pollinator. Hey guys! Many of you know about my obsession with Tradescantia. I'm especially fond of the zebrina species, and have been gradually collecting them in hopes to one day have all 23 (yep, there are 23 different zebrina cultivars!). My most recent acquisition is the newest official zebrina cultivar called 'MaeVerde'. The lady who named it and got it registered also happens to run my favorite Etsy shop, and I got lucky and snagged the very first one she put up for sale!
