Gm everyone; I finally broke down and caught a sale, treated myself to this philodendron Burkin and Calathra( looks like a prayer plant to me? They’re both in isolation.
Problem: the philodendron Burkin is getting yellow tips an a couple leaves?

Can anyone help me? #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #TheWateringHole #TheThread #Philodendron #PlantTherapy #PlantLove @SuperbRaspfern @MariansOasis @princesspitstop ANYBODY please
Hi @Preciousplants1 and good morning 🌞!
Congratulations on the new plants 🪴 🪴 😊 they’re very pretty! How long have you had them? If you got them recently whatever is going on with the Birkin probably started at the nursery. I’d suspect overwatering, possibly inconsistent watering and potentially sunburn. The yellow tips could be from too much water and it’s been trying to eliminate the excess. Have you noticed any water droplets on the tips particularly at night or in the morning? Guttation is what that’s called, a way to release excess water from the cells. I’ve noticed in my plants that do this (philo moonlight, philo red Congo) it’s usually when it’s had a big drink of water and it’s humid. But I’d check the soil and roots just to see what’s going on. Soil too wet/moist? Any root rot?
The bigger yellow splotches could be the guttation has been happening for a while, and they’re more affected by it or it could’ve been exposed to too much light. The one leaf looks very yellow with potentially a brown splotch in it too? It’s hard to tell from the camera angle.
@MariansOasis I could be wrong, but I think all plants that unroll a leaf do this all Alocasia all Colocasia all bananas & philodendrons personally, I have seen this. I’m not sure about other plants but these plants I just stated I have noticed myself. I tell my elderly mother Ma the plants are crying because you overwatered them again. You can’t water them every day you walk by and it’s hot just because it’s hot.
lol try tellin Ma that.
And I was thinking the yellowing was from it wanting nitrogen bc of all the growth in little pot. Could be from the salt build up if it’s really dry & not crying too. The crying to me tells me transpiration is working as it should and no issues in the root zone or it wouldn’t be drinking. But everything here is said with a grain of salt if it is too light and too dry or too heavy and two overwater do the opposite have to find the equal balance 😄
@Preciousplants1 Wow what beautiful plants. I know my philodendron Burkin has gotten some yellow ends from too much sun . But I also see a black spot on the one leaf . @MariansOasis Has some good advice and I certainly don’t want to be redundant.
@MariansOasis thank you Marian, I’ve only had the Burkin about a week. It was soaking wet when I got her. So I repotted her in a fast draining soil with perlite and orchard bark.
I’ve since trimmed the brown spot /yellow off.
The 2nd one I’ve only had a couple-3 days also soaking wet when I get it. I’ve since repotted her too!
No roots rot that I could tell.
No I haven’t seen any tears as of yet: but now and again I see them on one of my pathos and Tara plants. @OhGollyItsJolly

I had them both in a south facing window (that’s my isolation room!
So I’ll move them to a lids lighted part of the room, thank you guys:

Is there anything else I should do: I did give them some plant food when I watered 🙏🏽💕
@ILoveMyPlants hi Deb yes I repotted them both and trimmed the yellow and cleaned then 👍🏽thank you
@Jho hello Josh good to see you, it’s been a while

@Preciousplants1 Morning Sherri! Always good to see you. My Birkin went to the garden in the sky when I tried to repot him, but I think mostly because I was over his dramatics. I hope yours recovers quickly!
