I’m so excited for my “comebacks!” The first two are Variegated Fallopia Multiflora. I love the Fallopia, it literally sparkles ✨ The other two are my sweet comeback alocasias. One of my favorite alocasias is Variegated Alocasia baginda 'Dragon Scale' (Mint/Aurea variant). Lastly is a Stardust Alocasia. ☺️ Does anyone else have some comebacks, or cuttings you are doing? Share your comebacks and let us know how you did it. I think we can learn and improve no matter the skill level. I believe we can still learn and improve. ☺️🤗 #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #NewGrowth #PropagationStation #PlantTherapy #GrowLights #NewPlantMom #PetsAndPlants #TheThread #TheWateringHole #PlantCorner #PlantShelfie #RarePlants #PlantID #PlantLove #AlocasiaAddicts #Alocasia
Hi @Idplantthat 👋 Great topic! Love your Fallopia multiflora! Never heard of it 😲 congratulations on the success with it and your alocasias too 🙌. I have a couple of Stingray alocasia that have comeback 👍. Got them off the 50% off table at Armstrong nursery a few Christmas ago. But then they got thrips. They didn’t like the treatment very much and I thought they were goners 🪦. But I put the corms in paper toweling and eventually they grew roots. Took months but it happened!!! I’ll post pics tomorrow. Too late tonight 🥱 😴 🛏️ 💤. They’re not very big, hopefully they’ll get bigger this summer.
Wow 😮 I also love the variegated Fallopia Multiflora and haven’t heard of that one. It’s absolutely stunning 🤩 Sparkles… 😱 💖
Hi, yes I do have a for a recent comeback. A rat ate one of my plants down to a nub several months ago. I was trying to save it from the frost we had by putting it in my garage. It is recently come back and it’s beautiful.
@MariansOasis ohhh! I want to see your stingray. I used to have one, but I think it bombed and I lost the corm. 🤦‍♀️ Have you ever seen the variegated pink stingrays? They are breathtaking. Actually, Heidi would love it as well! @princesspitstop
@Malagueña, how gorgeous your Persian shield has some of the most amazing colors I’ve seen on them! It’s absolutely gorgeous 🩵
@Idplantthat thank you. It’s one of my favorite plants and I was pretty upset when I saw it gone and only, about, a half an inch of it left. I wasn’t sure if it would come back. I’m so grateful that it did.
@DreamMachine I definitely associate this with unicorns 🦄 and fairies 🧚🏻‍♂️🧚🏻‍♀️ I can’t wait to see it in a larger form! Do you have any comebacks? I know you’re basically doing that with the new ones you just got 😂
@Malagueña, that’s great. How did you do it? I have one, but it’s been kinda struggling a little as of recently. I hadn’t thought to put it outside to boost it!
@Idplantthat , when I found the Persian shield, it literally was only about a half inch high. Prior to that it was about a foot high and getting ready to bloom. I have never seen a bloom on a Persian shield. I was excited about it. A rat eating it may sound really weird as it sounded weird to me. I literally saw the rat. I looked at my poor plant closely and saw some tiny little leaves at the bottom. I thought. “well I’ll water it. Give it partial light and see how it does. Later I gave it water that I soak banana skins in. That gives a plant magnesium and potassium. I found it to be a good, cheap fertilizer. I eat a couple bananas save the peels put them in the picture water and let it soak for a day. It makes a great liquid fertilizer and I attributed much of that to my plants recovery.
@Malagueña yes! 🙌 That’s a fabulous way to feed your plants. You can also chop up the sling and the leaves of banana trees, chop them up pretty good, and just mix in the top of your soil. Plants love it! 🥰 I’ve got a load of banana trees. The Persian shield, in my experience, once they start flowering, they go crazy and keep flowering. They are really cute little purple flowers. Similar almost to like a Purple Heart 💜 if you’ve seen those flowers. That’s some great ideas you had and a way to bring it back bigger and stronger!
@Idplantthat , thank you so much for your comments. When my Persian shields flower, I will post pictures of the flowers.
I realized I never put up my way of bringing these guys back. 😂 So here we go! #ComebackStory @DreamMachine @MariansOasis @Malagueña @princesspitstop Alright; so not everyone is a fan of silica and I understand the concerns and reasons; but I water mainly and if I can only get rainwater of which we try needlessly to obtain… I do live in a desert 🏜️ 🤦‍♀️ With that all being said I use PowerSI original, PowerSI Lush, and Gold Leaf Standard (I also occasionally use Powersi pk synergy, but only when blooming) and then in one of the mixes the perlite has a little silica so we are using two forms (monosilic acid and silica potassium) in our plants... I water down the formula to be able to feed each watering. In the growing season, I do flush my plants more (so anywhere from once or twice a month depending on which area) to avoid any form of salt or anything else building up. Then once every other month, the plants I can lift, I bottom water in a lava rock pool, basically. I leave barrels or containers of lava rocks with a little water so it breaks down into their environment. The soil base I use is a mix of 6 different kinds of mediums. Then I just adjust it to whatever plant I’m doing at the moment. So combined with that and the watering… then depending on if it’s the house or outside or greenhouse, I’ll do it accordingly… and in what stage it’s in. I’ll either use a self-watering container with an open-close lid and a Ziploc bag but cracked at the top. I like the zipper style so I can visually have a little more control over how much air and everything… then I’ll chop some of my banana leaves and shred any remaining branches or anything into a mulch and usually add that to my orchard plants. Then when I transplant to avoid as much stress, I mix the soil it was in, with the medium in putting it in, and generally they don’t get as upset. ☺️
@Idplantthat no! I didn’t know a variegated pink stingray existed!!! 🤯 Will have to check that out.
@Idplantthat that is great, but does that silica in the perlite say it’s water soluble? Otherwise it’s just acting like the perlite—good drainage and aeration!

And you have to mix the powersi every watering, right? Everything I’m reading says it starts to break down very quickly as soon as it’s mixed with water. (Although we ALL KNOW I’ve been wrong before!! 😂😂) Is that do-able, or is it a lot of work? 😵‍💫

Regardless, it shows how much you care about your plant bébés 🥰🥰

Here’s some mostly new leaves from the bébés you gave me! Majestic, then red Congo, then brandtianum (that leaf under the top one is still one of the originals!!). They all unfurled last week ☺️
@DreamMachine awww your bébés are so sweet 🫶🏼🥹🥰
@MariansOasis thank you Marian 🥰 And the rooting in perlite in plastic bags has been awesome!
@DreamMachine I have seen amazing results! The Harvest Hero is the perlite with silica (it’s been amazing!) the PowerSI does work immediately. It’s an acid, so it doesn’t have to break down like the potassium, which needs salt to break it down. ☺️ I’d definitely say it works and is worth the price tag. 😉 I was able to find it 20 dollars cheaper by just looking into a Google search vs. Amazon. 🥳 I’ve got an Alocasia in my kitchen, which, as I said, is a dang desert 🌵 here. So we have no humidity, so I was worried about it. But it’s done amazingly. Right now, it’s only got four stalks. But my newest leaf is about 2-2 1/2 ft tall, and the leaf itself is 10-11 inches. I just gave it a deep pot and chunky soil medium, actually the bag I sent you! You have my soil blend; you can try it. It has the perlite (Harvest Hero) in it. If you have any doubles, even of ones I sent you, you can try growing ing them in each to see if it really makes a difference? 🤷‍♀️ I’ll show you my variegated coffee. It’s one of the only ones I snapped a picture of when I was out watering, and it’s because it’s gotten so big and beautiful. But someone has been feasting in the GH. 👀🤨 I let my PowerSI and all that sit in my rain barrels; it’s safe to do it, safe for animals and humans. I just make sure to flush my plants a little more frequently, but that’s because I don’t mind if they flush out because I’m feeding so regularly. It also makes a great foliage spray, and it’s amazing for comeback and starter plants. Plus, you can put hydrogen peroxide with it, and it’s fine. So I think it’s most definitely worth it, and the results, in my opinion, speak for themselves. I used the perlite in my strawberries and then watered with the Power, and my leaves are ridiculously thick, and the stalks you can’t even snap or rip; you have to cut them off because they are so strong. 💪 I love it because my strawberries 🍓 don’t fall over with the fruit, so I don’t have to worry as much about putting down my straw. 🤗
@DreamMachine for reference, I got this plant maybe two years ago. It was a twig when it came, and I had three I imported for Asia, but only this one made it. Everything else unfortunately passed. So this has kinda been one of my favorites just because it’s so different and gorgeous. The greens are just beautiful. 😻 But it was only in a two-inch container to this, which is maybe a ten or a twelve now? But I’m pretty sure you’ve seen a few pictures of it younger.
@Idplantthat well…looks like I can’t get it here! I’ll have to use your mix for testing purposes 😅
@Idplantthat also, your variegated coffee plant is stunning 🤩 I love mine, although I have a standard coffee arabica as you know! Such glossy leaves they sometimes don’t look real!!
@DreamMachine I love them too! Coffee plants are so great. I have a big Arabic one. She just started growing her cherries. I’m excited to see how you roast coffee beans and the process. If you ever want the harvest hero or want some to try, just let me know and I’ll send you some of mine. 😉 That’s wild you all can’t get it! What’s that about.. 🤷‍♀️ I have some coffee seeds I planted if any of them take I’ll send you one or two. Although I’m not sure they will take or what variety they are. 😂 🤦‍♀️ I just needed to plant them before another year passed 😊
So these are my strawberries, some variegated guavas, and these bananas are grown from a large corm. They’ve been growing almost their whole lifetime with silica, and I’ve zero problems or issues with uptake.
These are some of my others. The white variegated banana I had to cut back all the way to the base of the plant and grow it back from a corm. It took forever for it to start.
I know @DreamMachine, you and I have talked about blackberries, and what monsters they are. This guy is just insane; no matter how much I cut them back, they come back with the vengeance! 🤣 But the last few years these monsters have really thickened up.
@Idplantthat omg girl, if I remember after work I’ll show you my blackberry “bush”…. More like a BEAST 😳

I have not been keeping it in check and it is getting seriously out of hand. Do they make full body jumpsuits made out of heavy duty work glove material?? 😱😖😳 Ok I’ll show you if I remember 😂😂
@DreamMachine ha ha ha if you ever find that jumpsuit let me know! I’ll need one too, I feel like if I get too close to the blackberry bushes I’m going to just get sucked in and no more me.. I’m blackberry food now. Ha ha 😂 oh gosh; for real I want to see yours though! 🤩 it used to be on joking with my old friends and family about getting full body padded body suits and helmets 🪖 because we were so accident prone they just thought we needed one. I was looking 👀 I’m not ‘bubble 🫧 boy-ing’ this! ( I really hope you are familiar with Seinfeld’s bubble boy episode ha 🤣)
@Idplantthat omg it looks even bigger today 😂😂 so to the right of either pic is our house, and the blackberry goes behind (and let’s face it, THROUGH) that shed, around the side of our house, and is 100% on the front side of our house too. If I never respond again, just know the blackberry got me 🤣🤣🤣
@Idplantthat lol oh and yes I am familiar. I’ve never watched it, but I absolutely know what you’re talking about , hahaha!!
@DreamMachine, your Blackberry bush is truly a monster; you might just go missing in it. 😂 I feel like it’s going to be like the Simpsons and you’ll just take a couple of steps back and the bush just eats you! 😂 Oh gosh, well maybe you can train your crow 🐦‍⬛ friend to lassie this if needed! 🤣🤣
@Malagueña is this plant a Persian Shield? It is gorgeous. I’m having a really hard time with mine ☹️
@Luckeecharm1 mine has been funky too! Definitely need some tips from @Malagueña who bought back there Persian shield beautifully! 🩵
@Luckeecharm1 , here is my Persian Shield plant.
@Malagueña oh yes, I know. 😊 what is the secret is what I wanna know. Mine is slowly dying. I’ve been trying and trying to nurse her back to health, but I’m not succeeding. Here is a picture of her current status.
@Luckeecharm1 , I would take it out of the pot, check its roots. If they are wet, dry them carefully with the paper towel and repot it in a new pot and new soil. I would check the leaves carefully they may have some sort of infestation. Spray the leaves with Neem oil or copper fungicide. Take two organic banana skins and soak them for 24 in a picture of water. The water will get potassium and magnesium from the banana skins. Check the internet to see how much light she should get, also check the soil ph. It may be to alkaline or acidic. I hope this helps. 👍
@Malagueña thanks very much. I’m so glad I have something to try now. Other than a humidity dome cause that didn’t work. Thanks again.
@Luckeecharm1 😁✌️
@Luckeecharm1 , you are, very, welcome.
