Finding light for Crocodile Fern in your home
Crocodile Fern can tolerate being far from a window and light source.
Place it less than 6 feet from a south-facing window to ensure it receives enough light to survive 💪.
Select your region to see how the current weather in your area affects the placement of Crocodile Fern in your home 🏡.
How to fertilize Crocodile Fern
Most potting soils come with ample nutrients which plants use to produce new growth.
By the time your plant has depleted the nutrients in its soil it’s likely grown enough to need a larger pot anyway.
To replenish this plant's nutrients, repot your Crocodile Fern after it doubles in size or once a year—whichever comes first.

Dark brown spots on crocodile fern? I have a crocodile fern that seems to be taking a downward turn. At first I thought this may have been caused by our softened water, but I have been watering it with it new RO-filtered water for two months now. It continues to get new brown spots and decline. This plant is in my office basement near an egress window. Could it be getting too much sunlight? Usually it doesn’t get much, but for 2-3hrs per day now in summer it is lit like the 3rd picture (front-most plant).

What’s wrong with my crocodile fern? Gobi was recommended for beginners like myself, but it seems like I am not taking good care of him :( He has several of these yellow leaves with crispy brown edges. Could you help me how to treat this one? What I do is 💦 spray his leaves every second day 💧water him every 7-9ish days 🌞 I keep him in a north facing window - not receiving direct, bright light. My other ferns are doing great just next to him. #CrocodileFern #microsorummusifolium #yellowleaves #help #PlantTherapy

Hey Plant Fam! Is there a consensus on best way to water our Crocodile Ferns? I’m thinking to bottom water, so as not to over water, but not sure… What say you all? #CrocodileFern

Save Dying Fern #CrocodileFern This guy has been struggling the past few months and has lost lots of leaves ☹️ It’s not really absorbing anymore of the water I give it. Is there anything I could do to save it?

Curious, do you think my croc fern should be repotted to a larger pot? He's been healthy since adoption, end of Oct., but no new growth. Also, from beginning, it feels like he was stuffed into this pot (nursery potted it for me that day). Thoughts? #CrocodileFern #happyplants #plantsmakepeoplehappy #fernfriends

Please welcome Arlo the #crocodilefern to my plant family! 🐊 I saw the unique patterns and texture on his leaves when I was perusing my local plant shop and I knew that I had to adopt him. 🥹 #happyplants #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantaddict #fernfriends #fern #planttherapy #greggang #greggers

Crocodile Fern Advice I went on week and a half trip and my partner, unknowingly, watered my plants right after I did. Cue the poor baby. I’ve never had root rot…from a video about limp/dark roots…it LOOKS like it. But then maybe that’s just how rhizoids look? If it is, is this salvageable? This is even after I’ve rinsed all the dirt off (tried). The leaves were starting to yellow from the base and pull off easily. TIA! Update: roots smell earthy and are actually pretty springy - don’t seem to pull out that easily…so maybe just letting them air out?

Arlo REALLY loves the #wethewild Neem oil protect spray! Just look at those shiny leaves! I used microfiber gloves to delicately wipe down the leaves after spraying. I've used this on most all of my plants only once and I already see a difference!! #theamigos #happyplants #crocodilefern #fernfriends #plantsmakepeoplehappy

Is this leaf doomed? I got this plant about a month ago and have been struggling to care for it. It developed a few black spots on the edges of two leaves, so I removed it from the terrarium I had it in and treated it with a neem-based houseplant spray. The black spots haven't increased, thankfully. But this one leaf has been yellowing over the past few weeks 😭 see first photo (other photo for comparison with the rest of the plant). I know plants get stressed from traveling and can take time to adjust (I bought it online). Is there any chance it'll get better or should I just cut it off? Have been watering with distilled water and misting the moss on top when it gets dry. Potted in a soil that's supposed to be good for ferns (see pic in comments) plus I added a touch more perlite to help with aeration. So thrilled my #blueoilfern is pushing out its very first new leaf under my care ✨️ 🥹 Bought online and fussy from the start, it wasn't till I mentioned my woes to a staff person at one of my favourite local plant stores (not the store I bought it from) - they gave me some soil tips that completely turned things around for my little frondy friend. Beth is on the up and up now! 💖 #freshleaffriday #plantsmakepeoplehappy
