About Calathea 'Zebra Plant'
Many of the houseplants we used to know as Calatheas now belong to the genus Goeppertia (say that three times fast). These plants have delightfully patterned leaves that come in all sorts of colors and shapes! Commonly known as prayer plants, the leaves of some species fold up at night through a process called nyctinasty meaning night movement! 😴

How to fertilize Calathea 'Zebra Plant'

Most potting soils come with ample nutrients which plants use to produce new growth.
By the time your plant has depleted the nutrients in its soil it’s likely grown enough to need a larger pot anyway.
To replenish this plant's nutrients, repot your Calathea 'Zebra Plant' after it doubles in size or once a year—whichever comes first.

This little baby Calathea had 2 leaves 2 months ago and now she's flowering! Wow!! I didn't know that she would. I haven't even placed her in a pot yet as I wanted to wait for Spring to be safe. Whatcha all think?

Pruning my calathea? Okay so, there are a pair of leaves I wanna prune, qnd I know I have to cut the stem near to the roots, but im wondering, what happens to the stem? Does it wither away and eventually dissapears? Or does it grow a leave again like a pothos? I hate the look of stumps at the roots of my plants so I would like to know #Goeppertia #happyplants #mysialia #plantsmakepeoplehappy

Also idk a lot about roots, so are those normal roots or a sign of it being root bound and needs to be changed? Thay are all ove tthe walls of the pot, holding the dirt toguethere from bottom to almost the top. The dirt itself its aturdy, nothibg ever fell when I went to unpot the plant She is alr on a 17cm pot btw #newplantmom #happyplants #calatheacrew #calatheazebra #calathealeopardina #mysialia

Tips? I just divided and repotted her since she was a little rot bound from the nursery. I took 1/3 of it and put it in a smaller pot to make another plant However, from what im seeing, they are very delicate when repotted.I think I left the soil too wet, and have been thinking of leaving them outside since there it is warm and sunny, but idk of the change from indoors will be too much. Do i put it back where I had it? Or can I leave them one or two days outside in the sun? What will be better for them to get used to their new home? #repotseason #calatheacrew #Goeppertia #newplantmom #happyplants #propagationstation #plantsmakepeoplehappy #mysialia

Spots on my calathea concinna leaves, any ideas? 😰 The spots turned up very suddenly within the last week. Do you think they look like a bacterial or fungal infection? No sign of any creatures. Her soil is very dense and holds in to water for ages (still in nursery pot). She lives in a room with 70% relative humidity, 21 degrees C, indirect light. #calatheacrew #help #goeppertia. Should I repot her in better soil? Remove the affected leaves? Spray with something?

what’s bothering my pinstripe calathea? she’s always been a little fussy, but it only got really bad in the past week. no new changes (unless this could have something to do with the less sunlight from this time of year?) #PinStripeCalathea #help

Spots on calathea I have spendt many hours searcing about this before. And the internet just don't seem to give me any more answers by now 😅 I tend to get some of these spots every winter. It doesn't seem to bother the plant, and in spring again new leaves comes and no new spots until it now starts again 😑 After last winter I thougt it might be a little too much water or low humidity. The humidity should not be an issue now, and I really thougt I had gotten a hang on the watering. But I guess maybe it stays wet a little too long now. It has a bit cold nights now (reaches just below 17 celsius, but it didn't last year). I water it aprox every 16. days. It sometimes ejects small sugary drops on the leaves (there are no bugs doing this!). I know roses and orchids do that when they are too dry, but that doesn't make sense either 😅 The spots gets darker when I wipe it with a softh cloth, so the leaf has a puncture probably from ejecting sweet sap.. (i can't believe there are bugs🪲 I have searched through everything with microscope now and last winter...). Have been thinking of fungus too, but it doesn't make sense either as it is just here wintertime🤷♀️ It usually dries out to a brown spot after a while. First photo is from my microscope. I did fertelize it just a little last watering, could fertelize-burn cause this? Sorry long post. You guys have any thoughts? #cathedralwindows #calatheacrew #calathea #plantsmakepeoplehappy #goeppertia

💨 Humidity
Calathea 'Zebra Plant' prefers dry environments. Providing extra humidity or misting your plant allows water to linger on leaves, which can create the perfect environment for harmful types of fungi.
🪴 Soil
Calathea 'Zebra Plant' is very sensitive to dry soil, so choose a potting soil that retains moisture. A good soil will still drain well and contain lots of organic matter such as coco coir or sphagnum moss.
💩 Fertilizer
Calathea 'Zebra Plant' should be repotted after it doubles in size or once a year, whichever comes first. Fresh potting soil has all the nutrients your plant needs, so as long as it’s refreshed yearly, you shouldn’t need to use fertilizer. Remember, plants get their energy from sunlight, not fertilizer!
🌎 Native Region
Calathea 'Zebra Plant' is native to Tropical Americas.
🧐 Troubleshooting
When troubleshooting a sad-looking houseplant, start by checking for signs of distress in its leaves, such as yellowing, browning, or drooping, which can indicate overwatering or nutrient deficiencies.
Inspect the soil moisture; too dry or too wet soil can cause problems.
Ensure the plant is getting the right amount of light, as too much or too little can stress it.
Finally, consider environmental factors like temperature and humidity, and adjust care routines accordingly to revive your plant.
